Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 132 Part 2
CHAPTER 132 PART 2
「Well, I don’t know for sure, but it’s about two hundred meters away from us or so. I can feel a bad vibe coming from that general area.」
「Nyaah…… Ah!」
Kanade’s ears fluttered…… and not long after that, her tail twitched strongly.
「Rein, Rein! Ax is right, there’s a sign of a monster wafting through the air! Look, can you see it? Up in the trees over there!」
「O-Oh, yeah! That’s right. I can see it!」
There were some trees lined up in the distance.
Hidden by the fresh green leaves, a bird-shaped monster could be seen.
Was that…… a Flare Bird, if I recall correctly?
It is a fire-breathing bird-shaped monster that specializes in surprise attacks, above all else.
It was only a given that Kanade would have been able to sense its presence over such a great distance but……
How did Ax manage to do it, while he was a normal human? And even faster than Kanade did?
「Alright! Let’s go kick its ass!」
I said so while turning around to my comrades, and we started to get ready to go and exterminate the Flare Bird.
But just as we were about to do so, Ax stopped us from going any further with a gesture of his hand.
「Hm? What is it?」
「Now, now. How about you guys let Cell take care of this one? Cell, a single monster shouldn’t be much of a problem for you, right?」
「Yes. The distance isn’t going to be a problem, either.」
While she was saying that, Cell was already getting her bow at the ready.
She pulled the bowstring as far as she was able to do so…… and then she let it go in a single swift motion.
The released arrow flew through the air with a sharp whistling sound.
As if it had been preordained action, the arrow pierced the head of the Flare Bird that was more than two hundred meters away from us.
It was neither a fluke nor a coincidence.
As if to prove this to us, Cell fired arrow after arrow over and over again.
None of the arrows missed their mark and pierced the Flare Birds’ heads as if they were sucked in towards them.
All of her shots were pretty much one-hit kills.
「There. It’s done.」
「Oh, wow!」
Kanade, who was watching the whole thing unfold in real time, was so amazed that she couldn’t find the words to speak.
Honestly, I felt the same way.
They sensed the presence of the monsters two hundred meters away from us before Kanade was able to do it.
And then they managed to dispose of them all so swiftly with Cell only using her bow to do so.
It was so simple, but at the same time it was so effective.
Of course, none of our Party members would have been able to do something like that.
So that’s what the A Rank Adventurer is capable of.
「Okay, we’re done here! Let’s move on!」
At Ax’s signal, everyone moved forward once again.
「That was amazing.」
「Hm?」
「Picking up the presence of the monsters from more than two hundred meters away. And sniping them all from that distance with extreme precision. That’s not something any normal Adventurer would be able to do.」
「Really now? To us, it’s something that is only natural. We need to be able to do that. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to survive.」
Even though Ax said that, he had that huge grin on his face.
He was probably happy to be praised like that.
He was somewhat an easy guy to understand.
But still, it’s not like I was actually minding that mindset of his.
「To tell you the truth, I was a little nervous at first, but now I think that you guys are very dependable.」
「Yeah, just leave it all to us! …… Wait, you were worried at first!? That’s awful!」
「I’m really sorry. But that was the first time that we have met, and, well…… You weren’t exactly……」
「In other words, it’s all your fault, Ax.」
「Wait!? My fault!?」
「Who else can we blame for our poor first impression but you?」
「Alright, alright! It’s all my fault! There!? You satisfied!? I’m sorry……」’
Ax shrugged his shoulders while Cell stared at him with icy eyes.
I’m still not sure about what kind of relationship these two are supposed to have going on between them.
It’s honestly hard to determine whether they are close to one another or not.
But there is no doubt that they are a good duo, though.
「Hey, can I ask you a question?」
He resumed to move forward, and after a bit, Ax opened his mouth to speak.
「Yeah?」
「Why did you and the others decide to take on this Emergency Request, Rein?」
「’Why, you ask? What’s the intent of that question?」
「Pure interest, I guess. And a little bit of personal curiosity.」
Ax gave me an expectant look.
「This Emergency Request, the reward for it sure is nice, but the risk is also really high, right? After all, our opponent is the assumed Devil that destroyed the entire village over the course of a single night. We don’t know what kind of creature exactly we are dealing with here, but we are pretty sure that it’s one heck of a nasty piece of work. So against an opponent like that, it’s not hard to get injured, and the risk of you ending up dead is also relatively high. And yet, despite all this, why?」
「No big reason here or anything like that. We just thought that we couldn’t leave this Devil business alone.
「Hm?」
「It’s only a matter of perspective, really. It’s not something we can leave alone to others, and if there’s anything we can do about it, we wanted to do something about it. That’s all.」
Ax was strangely silent for a few moments and then……
「Hahaha.」
He smiled in a pleasant way.
「Hey, that sounds nice. Really nice. I like it. In fact, that sounds like just my kind of thing.」
「Your kind of thing? What do you mean by that, Ax?」
「Well, you know I’m actually the same when it comes to that matter. A Devil that could destroy an entire village over the course of a single night is not something that should be left alone. If someone is doing something wrong, we have to punish them for it and then make that thing right. Well, if I were to put it in some simple words, it would be that I…… Well, basically, I think of myself as an ally of justice, alright?」
It was very straightforward of him, and for a very simple reason.
In a way, you could even say that it was a little bit childish of me.
Because you could say that right now I was living an ideal version of my life, the one that I always wanted to lead.
This might sound really naive when coming from me, but……
I really liked my current life and everything that was coming with it.
I felt like if it was alongside Ax and Cell, I could do a good job no matter how hard of a request we were supposed to undertake…… and not only that, I felt like we could be good friends at that.
…… But I didn’t know at the time that this wish of mine would never come true.
