Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 135 Part 2
CHAPTER 135 PART 2
「Hoo, you don’t say?」
Arios’ eyes narrowed considerably.
This expression of his was more than enough of a giveaway that he just happened to hear something really interesting.
「Does that mean that you were sent here in order to subjugate this Devil?」
「No, our Party is only part of the Investigation Team. The Subjugation Team is something entirely different, and operates separately.」
「Hmm, is that so?」
Arios grinned for some reason.
「But then, it really is a pity. Your deeds will all be in vain.」
「What does that supposed to mean?」
「That is because now I am here. So you can leave both the investigation and subjugation of the Devil to me.」
What the hell?
There was something with Arios’s words just now that made me feel really uncomfortable for some reason.
Why is it that Arios is so deeply involved in this incident?
Considering Arios’s troublesome personality, I would never think that he would go out of his way to do something that he would deem as unnecessary……
Or is there perhaps “something” that got him involved in this incident?
For example, something that would be necessary for him to fight the Demon Lord in the future……
…… No, it’s all no good.
No matter how hard I was trying to come up with an answer, I was only drawing blank after blank.
I lacked information to make a sound and unbiased judgment here.
It might be worth our time and trouble to actually investigate Arios and his actions aside from the Devil itself.
「Alright then. Rein, you’d best return to Horizon for the time being.」
「I cannot really do that. We are not alone here. We have people with us who were also assigned to the Investigation Team. That is why we cannot leave this place just like that.」
「Even though I’m here and this case might as well be considered solved?」
「It doesn’t really matter, does it? Unless I receive a formal order from our superiors, I won’t be going away from here anytime soon.」
「Tsk……」
Arios clicked his tongue as if he suddenly got into a really bad mood.
I guess that being in the same town with us was not exactly a comfortable situation for him.
「…… Oh well, I guess that’s also fine with me. Thinking about it, it’s going tobe a rare opportunity for me to show you just how strong and powerful I truly am. So things are going to be vastly different from that one time a while ago.」
「Well, aren’t you pretty confident?」
「Just who the hell do you think I am? I am the Hero, never forget that! You and I…… This time around, I am going to prove to you which one of us is the superior one here!」
「I’m not really interested in that kind of competition, but……」
It seemed to me that Arios has already made up his mind about it, and he had a fearless smile on his face, most probably thinking about how he was going to crush us this time around.
I hope that this situation doesn’t end up getting us into some sort of trouble……
Or could it be that it was fate itself that was doing everything in its power to get us? Sometimes I simply couldn’t help it but to think that way.
For some reason, I had a really bad feeling about this entire situation.
「Well then, you will have to excuse me here. Consolation for the villagers, meeting for the sake of countermeasures against the Devil…… There are various things that need to be done, and which require my undivided attention.」
「Yeah…… Oh, my bad. Looks like we stopped you on your way to your official duties.」
「Kukuku…… Let’s do our best together in the upcoming future. Right…… Rein?」
Arios showed me an indescribable smile and then simply left us while he went further into the village.
「Nyaahhh…… I knew it, I really hate that guy’s guts! He’s always going out of his way to try and ridicule you, Rein!」
「Yeah, I don’t really like Arios all that much, either.」
「Want me to jump him and bust his head in?」
「Now, now, there’s no need for violence.」
Even though I stopped Kanade from doing something really stupid, there was a part of me who also wanted to just let her go and capitalize on her words.
That’s why it’s always so troublesome to get involved with Arios.
Or rather, dealing with that nasty character of his can get really exhausting really fast.
Not to mention that being near him brings back all those nasty memories of my past, so I would rather avoid having to remember then if I could help it.
However, Arios doesn’t seem to think so in the least.
It was clear from his words and actions just now, but he seems to want to have a clearly defined relationship with me, based on who is the superior one and who is the inferior one.
Maybe it’s because I managed to beat and humiliate him so much when he was clearly going all out against me the last time we fought.
Now, since he is a Hero, I would really like for him to prioritize what needs to be done instead of worrying about such petty and trivial things, but……
Even if I were to tell him that, he probably would not listen to my words at all.
But if he is just going to go around doing whatever the hell it is that he wants, there will come a day when all of that will come back to bite him in the ass.
I wonder if he ever humored a thought like that?
「…… Oh well. Not that it really matters all that much.」
There’s no need for us to worry about Arios so much.
We have to think about ourselves and our own affairs.
「Uwah…… I’m sorry. We just left you to stand there while we talked……」
I was so distracted by Arios that I completely forgot about Cell being with us.
Even though we were supposed to be working together, we ended up ignoring her.
「I hope that you’re not offended by our behavior just now……」
「……………」
But Cell was just standing there, a blank expression written all over her face.
I have only seen her being all calm and composed, so that reaction of hers was rather new and fresh.
「Hm? What’s wrong? Did something happen?」
「You, just now…… Do you know the Hero?」
「Hm? Why, yes, but…… Didn’t I tell you about that?」
「No, you never mentioned that before. This is the first I’m hearing about it.」
「I’m really sorry for that. But, it’s not like I was trying to keep that fact a secret, alright?」
「Well, I mean…… But I guess that if you let me know about that in advance, I might not have looked so surprised here just now.」
「This is…… Look, I honestly don’t know what to say to that. So it’s really my bad, alright?」
It seems that my relationship with Arios came as a great surprise to Cell.
For some reason, that made me feel a little bit guilty about this entire situation.
「I didn’t want people to know that I was someone who was related to the Hero in any kind of way. I mean, if you were to ask about it, I would have told you, but since you did not, I didn’t. Does that make sense?」
「Did you deliberately try to hide the fact that you were related to the Hero? You do some strange things, Rein, let me tell you that…… Normally, that would be something that you could take a tremendous amount of pride in for the rest of your life.」
「Well, believe me, I have my reason for doing that.」
「…… I see.」
Hearing that “various reasons” part, Cell seemed to be satisfied enough with my answer.
It seems that she sensed that there was “something else” to the relationship between Arios and I, something that could not be summed up with mere words alone.
「It seems that there are things you don’t want to say here, so I won’t ask too much. At least, I won’t.」
「Thank you…… Hm? You won’t?」
「Yes, I’m sorry. You see, I couldn’t really care less about stuff like that, but the same couldn’t really be said for that guy over there.」
The one that Cell was looking at…… Was none other than Ax.
…… Come to think of it, I also forgot about Ax being here in the first place.
「No way! You are an acquaintance of the Great Hero!?」
For some reason, Ax looked about ready to explode, trembling all over.
「I-I mean, yeah…… One thing let to another and it just kind of happened? …… But what of it? What’s wrong?」
「Please, can you get me his autograph!?」
「Apparently, Ax here is a great fan of the Hero…… Haah……」
Cell let out a loud and long sigh. I could feel that she was afraid that something like that might happen here, and only shook her head in disbelief.
…… Honestly, I also felt like letting out a loud and long sigh in reaction to that.
