Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 139 Part 2
CHAPTER 139 PART 2
「But still…… Did you really have to hit him? And hit him so hard like that……?」
「I would say that this amount of force was just about right for this idiot. Anything less than that, and it might have not been enough to get to him through that thick skull of his.」
「I-Is that so……? I-I see……」
After being told something like that in such a serious tone, there was no way that Sora could possibly pry into that matter any further anymore.
I was watching the whole situation develop, but there was no way for me to be able to interfere with it, either.
「R-Really, Cell!? What the hell was that for!?」
Ax, with his cheeks bright red, protested Cell’s harsh treatment with tears in his eyes.
「I just punched you. Now suck it up.」
「I didn’t ask you to tell me something like that in return!」
「But if I didn’t do this, then otherwise you wouldn’t be able to calm yourself down, now would you? So how about it? Think that this hit allowed you to calm down and cool your head? Even just a little bit?」
「Y-Yeah……」
「I apologize for the rough treatment. But you didn’t really leave me any other choice there.」
「W-Well, I guess that it cannot really be helped. I mean, even though you love someone, there are times when you need to get rough with them a little bit and give them a good smack across the head……」
「Huh? Even though I don’t really love you?」
Being told something like that with a completely straight face, Ax made the kind of face as if that declaration of his partner hurt him deeply.
And right after that……
Cell happened to let out a long and deep sigh.
「Good grief…… I am still not sure whether or not I am supposed to believe you with all of this, but…… Oh well, I guess that I have calmed down for the time being. Thank you for knocking some sense back into me, Cell.」
「You owe me one for that.」
「Sure, sure.」
For what it was worth, these two seem to have a strong bond with each other.
Just by looking at them, it was more than enough to see that fact coming across.
「…… I’m sorry for acting that way and lashing out at you. That must have scared you.」
「No, think nothing of it. We certainly don’t mind.」
「Umu. You really must adore that stupid Hero a whole lot, huh, Ax? I guess that things like that are actually inevitable in situations like that.」
Sora and Luna accepted Ax’s apology and let bygones be bygones in no time at all.
Being able to forgive someone as quickly as they did is not all that easy of a thing to do.
I felt as if I had learned once again how great and profound Sora and Luna’s experience was.
「Umm…… Look, I know that this might sound repetitive as hell coming from me, but I want to have one last confirmation from you…… Are you absolutely sure that what you have seen in those guys’ memories is true……?」
「Yes, we are sure. There is no doubt about it.」
「I see……」
「Well, like we said, there is no way for us to know the whole extent of this Adventurer’s story. So it might actually turn out that the Hero had good reason to kill him, or at the very least some kind of circumstances that left him with no other choice. Maybe this person was actually a bandit or someone else like that……?」
「Oh well, I don’t think there’s any chance of anything like that ever happening. I have only met the Hero once before, and for a short time at that, but I did not like him all that much.」
「Luna!」
「What? I’m just telling you the truth. Those are my honest impressions here.」
Sora tried to scold Luna for saying something so insensitive like that, but Luna only ended up doubling down on her statement.
It was honestly a bit of a contrived development.
But thanks to that…… I was honestly kind of weird, but the atmosphere around us managed to get a little bit less heavy than before.
Ax also seemed to have relaxed his shoulders just right and was scratching his head briskly, looking for words to say.
「But……. What do you mean by that? Even if you don’t think about it emotionally, it is still something that doesn’t quite make sense. I mean, why would the Revered Hero kill some random Adventurer in the first place?」
「I wonder if it has something to do with the shrine?」
「Yeah. Most probably.」
I agreed with Cell’s words.
「We need to organize all of our information that we managed to obtain thus far.」
The information that we gained from examining the surrounding area of the shrine and the testimonies of Sora and Luna were then laid out in light of what was certain to us.
「Some of the memories that Sora and Luna saw included Arios destroying the shrine. that’s for certain.」
「And the shrine had been broken by what looked like a sword or something similar to it.」
「So that means the person who destroyed the shrine must have been the Hero himself.」
Kanade and Tanya followed suit as if trying to keep their wits about them.
I gave them both a nod of my head and continued to speak.
「Yes, that’s what we know for sure. The question is: why would he do that in the first place?」
「Maybe he wanted to actually free the Devil that was sealed within the shrine…… or something like that?」
「Knowing what kind of a man that Hero is, do you really think that he would concern himself with that kind of distraction in the first place?」
「No…… No, I don’t think so. There is no way he would ever do something like that.」
Sora and Luna would say something like that, but I denied their way of thinking a moment after that.
I only know about this because I was traveling with Arios and his Party for a while, but……
Arios is the type of person who lusts after fame and desires recognition everywhere he goes, so he is extremely careful about not getting his name tarnished, and would always suffer fits of rage whenever something like that would happen.
He wouldn’t try to free a demon or destroy a sacred shrine just so that he could use those things as a source of stress relief.
「So then…… Does that mean that he destroyed that shrine on purpose? Or it could have been something inside of the shrine? Something that he could have possibly wanted for himself?」
「Or was he trying to gain Demonic powers for himself?」
「Hmm, yes, that might be it…… I feel like we are getting closer to the truth, little by little.」
Ax and Cell’s reasoning seemed to be quite convincing as well.
Still, there was no evidence for any of those things. And without evidence, there was nothing that we could possibly do about it.
And we were not going to get anywhere by discussing things like that here all the time……
「…… Alright. I have made up my mind.」
「Nyah? Made up your mind? About what?」
「We need to get to the bottom of this case, and we need to do it quickly. So we need to take the fastest, surest approach to do that.」
「You mean…… Are we finally going to rip this lousy Hero a new one!?」
「No, that’s not it.」
Why is every single one of Tanya’s ideas concentrated around violence, I wonder……?
Could it be that this is what all Dragon Tribe people are like?
「I would never do something like that. At least not yet, when the situation is still really delicate and unclear. That is why we need to be really careful and gentle with our approach.」
「Hmm, I see, I see. So…… what exactly does that even mean?」
「Basically, we are going to have ourselves a little talk…… but we are going to be forceful and pushy where we need to be. We are simply going to ask Arios directly if he’s the one who is responsible here.」
