Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 140 Part 2
CHAPTER 140 PART 2
For that very reason, they couldn’t exactly be picky about the methods that they were going to use.
That was the conclusion that Mina arrived at.
「For us to have been able to meet that girl at such a convenient time…… What a stroke of luck!」
「Do you want to go on a rampage so badly? We can help you with that. And then we shall chase you away, and take the credit for getting rid of you!」
「Improving our reputations and spreading the word of our deeds would serve to benefit us greatly in the future…… Who knows? We might get even more benefits from doing something like that again in the future…… Of course, only when there will be a necessity for it.」
Arios laughed.
Rin laughed.
Mina laughed as well.
None of those three were even the smallest bit ashamed of their own actions.
The three of them were convinced that they could do whatever they wanted, and no matter how horrendous or evil their actions would be, they would ultimately be forgiven for them.
Because they were the Heroes. And they were privileged to do whatever it was that was necessary in order to achieve their goal.
At least that’s what they have all thought.
Except for one person.
「…… Arios. I knew it. Don’t you think that this was actually a bad idea?」
Aggath said so in a heavy tone.
While Aggath was clearly concerned with this entire situation, Arios only looked at him in an annoyed way, as if he was trying to say: “Not this again?”
「Are you seriously going to bring that matter up again, Aggath? Didn’t we all decide on going through with that plan?」
「It was only because you went ahead on your own, to the point where there was no longer any option of turning back, isn’t it?」
「That may be so, but the fact remains that everyone agreed to do this. Including you.」
「That’s true, but……」
「Hey, hey, what’s the matter with you? It’s a great deal, don’t you think? We get to do pretty much nothing, and our reputation keeps on improving!」
To Rin’s words, Aggath remained silent.
He made a truly reluctant face, but he wasn’t repulsed by Rin’s words in the slightest.
Aggath also thought that if they had things easier, it would only be for the better.
He had decided that the plan Arios had come up with wasn’t necessarily a bad one, either.
He even thought that this was just fine, since they had to restore their reputation that had been tarnished by the Horizon Incident.
But still.
Inevitably, Aggath was curious about the girl called Iris.
Wasn’t she actually a monster or Demon?
Was it really safe to join forces with such an entity in the first place?
That was the problem that’s been bothering him this entire time.
「What’s the matter with you, Aggath? Do you think it’s wrong for us to deceive those villagers like that?」
「No, I actually couldn’t care less about something like that.」
Aggath was not opposed to Arios’ plan itself.
If he was against it, he would have stopped it when they even thought of going through with it.
And the fact that he saw nothing wrong with that plan in the first place was already enough proof that Aggath was also rotten to his very core.
「Then what’s the matter with you?」
「It’s that girl, Iris.」
Aggath then rubbed his arm.
It was entirely covered in goosebumps for some reason.
「Arios, what are you going to do about this Iris girl after all this?」
「Huh? What does that matter to you?」
「Are we just going to let her go, just like that? Or are we going to do the right thing and take her out?」
「Hmm, let’s see……」
After a moment of thinking to himself, Arios said with a smile on his face.
「No matter what, that thing is still way too useful for our cause. So why don’t we get her to help us out a little bit more while we still can?」
「…… Don’t you think it would actually be a better way to stop associating with her?」
「What was that?」
「That thing is dangerous. From the moment we met her on the top of that mountain until now, I have been getting those strong chills whenever she is nearby that just won’t go away. I knew it, it was a mistake…… We never should have joined forces with that thing.」
「Good grief…… I have no idea what you are talking about, but that’s just you, right? That’s just your impression of her, isn’t that right?」
「T-That may be true, but……」
No matter how hard he tried to do that, Aggath could not possibly bring his stiffened expression back to normal.
In the midst of all of this, he thought back to the way in which Iris would smile from time to time.
She might have looked and acted like a dainty girl on the outside…… But on the inside she was something else entirely.
Being in Iris’s company for a while now has made it painfully obvious for Aggath: that Iris was perceiving humans as nothing more than mere insects under her feet.
There was absolutely no way that she would ever stoop so low as to see humans and herself as equals.
And that is exactly what she would do. If Iris would ever feel threatened or simply felt like doing so, she would kill anyone without a second thought and remorse, and with a bright smile on her face.
That’s the kind of being that Iris really is.
As the villagers of Pagos have said, she might as well be the Devil herself.
And sure enough, Aggath sensed enough hatred and viciousness coming off of her to know that to be true.
They had teamed up with such a twisted and sick being.
They have lent her their help.
They let her live instead of getting the world rid of her.
And the way things were right now, wouldn’t it be just a matter of time before she would end up doing something terrible and horrendous? Just trying to imagine that, Aggath’s entire body started to tremble.
「Oh well, if you insist on saying that, I guess I can take your advice to heart, Aggath, but…… Iris is still way too useful to us to just discard her. So for the time being, how about we allow her to be our useful pawn as much as possible? Is that alright with you?」
「…… Alright. If you say so, Arios, then I have no complaints.」
「Come on now, it will be fine. You worry way too much, Aggath. No one is ever going to know that we have teamed up with Iris in the first place. And if you are still worried about her behavior, this just means that we need to hold her on a much tighter leash. Isn’t that right?
「…… Yeah. I guess that you are right.」
Slowly nodding his head in agreement Aggath couldn’t actually help it but to feel a certain kind of unrest building up in his chest.
Was that creature really a thing that could be so easily controlled by a mere human?
And wouldn’t she turn out to be just the kind of a creature that would turn on them when it would fancy her the most, easily biting off the hand that fed her up until now with a smile on her lips?
…… Little did Aggath know, that premonition of his couldn’t be more accurate.
