CHAPTER 155: THE UNCOVERED TRUTH PART 1

「This was an item that we have found on the remains of an Adventurer that we have discovered at the slope of the mountain where the shrine where the Devil was sealed was located. And that Adventurer had been murdered by someone.」

Unbeknownst to us all, Sora and Luna must have secured that dagger from the body of that Adventurer and brought it back with themselves.

Perhaps Sora had expected something like this to happen and wanted to have some additional evidence, just to be on the safe side.

「By the way, the culprit who killed that poor Adventurer is none other than the Hero himself! We are sure of it, as it was something that we were able to identify with the powerful magic of the Spirit Tribe!」

「As for the motive of the murder itself, it was to get rid of the witness of the crime that the Hero had committed. It’s reasonable to assume that the Hero killed the Adventurer because he witnessed him destroying the shrine where the Devil was sealed off.」

「Guuh……!!」

Arios then bit his lip really hard in frustration.

「Arios, what is the meaning of this……?」

「Hey, hey, now! You told us that this guy just straight up vanished or ran away!」 were talking about that adventurer running away.

Both Mina and Rin started to visibly panic.

Apparently, Arios must have kept the fact that he killed the Adventurer in order to shut him up from the members of his Party.

「And since it would be way too much trouble with recounting the events inside of the Adventurer’s memories as evidence once again, we might as well go and play them for all of you to see for yourselves. Luna, if you’d be so kind, please.」

「Umu! Behold my wonderful magic and be amazed! This is the magic that is capable of recreating the memories! Even those of the people who are dead!」

Luna said flamboyantly while casting a spell.

She used both the magic to search the memories and the magic to project those images for everyone else to see.

The perspective of the presented events seemed to be projected from the perspective of the deceased Adventurer, and we could see him being left alone with Arios, somewhere atop of the dimly lit mountain summit.

It looked like the two of them got into an argument of some sorts……

When the Adventurer turned away from him for some reason, Arios slashed at them with his sword.

A few villagers screamed as the scene displayed in front of their eyes got flooded with fresh blood.

That’s when Luna stopped the magic projection, as she seemed to have decided that it was more than good enough of a proof, and showing the villagers anything more might not be that much of a good idea..

「Wha…….!? Guh…… T-This is……!?」

As expected of Arios, there was no way that he could weasel his way out of this one. Not after being shown a solid piece of evidence as this one.

He just turned completely pale on his face, and it seemed he couldn’t possibly get any decent words of rebuttal out of his mouth.

「…… Does that mean that you have been lying to us this entire time?」

The Village Chief said in a shocked and appalled voice.

The other villagers also stared at Arios with disbelief in their eyes.

「So the reason as to why you have come to our aid and saved us…… It was all for your own benefit……? And you chose to ally yourself with the Devil…… just so that you could gather some more achievements under your belt……?」

「How horrible of you…… How could you!? And you dare to call yourself the Hero!?」

「I can’t believe that I was grateful to someone as awful as that……!!!」

The gazes of the villagers stabbed at Arios and the members of his Party like sharp arrows.

No, those gazes belonged not only to the villagers.

Ax and Cell also turned their eyes on Arios and his Party, as if they were looking at walking piles of flaming garbage.

「Kuh…… This is a farce! Nothing but pathetic farce!」

Trapped and cornered, Arios fussed like a small child throwing a temper tantrum.

「I will never approve of something like this! Never! This is a trap! Nothing but a filthy trap, set up to ruin my good name! There is no way that this could ever be true! There’s no way!」

Even though Arios kept on frantically denying everything, there was no way that anyone in here would take his words seriously now.

The only thing that would come back his way were the sharp and cold stares.

「Damn it all to hell…… I am not going to tolerate this any further! I’m leaving!」

「Arios!?」

「H-Hey, wait a minute!? You can’t just leave us here like that!!」

Arios and his Party tried to make their escape from the room, but……

If we were to leave our eyes off of them even for a single moment and let them continue their journey, they might do something terrible once again.

This is not the time to worry about Arios being a Hero or his reputation or anything else like that.

I was about to use my Narukami and its wire to restrain Arios and the others, but then……

「“Lighting!”」

「Huh?」

Arios used one of his spells that created a bright light in the room, blinding everyone present momentarily.

Unable to cope with the suddenness of the situation, we couldn’t help it but to look directly into the source of this bright light.

And once we were blinded, everyone stopped moving at once, staying where we stood.

In the meantime, Arios and his Party seemed to have made their escape……

By the time my vision finally returned to normal, Arios and the others had vanished without a trace.

「Damn it! They got away!」

Ax shouted out loud, kicking the ground in the apparent show of frustration.

Cell, on the other hand, remained calm.

「There’s nothing that we can do about that now, so best just let it go.」

「But we can’t let him get away with this, right!?」

「Of course we aren’t going to leave it like that, who told you that? We are going to report this incident to the country through the Adventurers’ Guild. I’m sure the country won’t leave this matter be, no matter what. Especially that it is the Hero that we are talking about here. I am also sure that they won’t just sit and wait with doing something about this.」

「Damn! And here I was, really wanting to punch that bastard square in the face…… Well, it’s just like you are saying, Cell. There’s no use worrying about that for the time being. We have got way more important things to worry about for the time being. Like that Devil business.」

「See? That’s what I’m talking about.」

Although we can’t just leave the matter of Arios and the problems that he had caused alone……
