CHAPTER 165: SORA AND LUNA’S MOTHER PART 1

「…… Mother?」

I couldn’t actually help it but to cock my head slightly upon hearing those unexpected words.

Everyone else seemed to have a similar reaction to mine.

Tanya, who came back to her senses first out of all of us, then asked Sora and Luna the ever so important question, as if to clarify:

「Mother…… You mean Mother in “that” sense, right? A biological Mother?」

「…… Huh? What else could we possibly mean by “Mother”?」

「What is it now? Are you trying to make fools out of us? Do you think we don’t know the meaning of the word “Mother”?」

「No, it’s just that…… What I meant here is…… You know?」

Tanya looked at me as if she wanted me to step right in and bail her out of an unfavorable situation.

Well, it’s not like I was unable to understand where exactly she was coming from with that kind of logic.

I mean, it’s really hard to believe if you stop to think about it for a moment.

For the one who actually sealed Iris away to be none other than Sora and Luna’s mother……

That’s a small world that we live in, huh?

「Nyaah…… But to think that you Mom managed to seal Iris away on her own like that…… Talk about surprising.」

「Well, to be exact, it was not JUST our Mother who sealed that Celestial Tribe away.」

「Inside of the memory, we saw not only our Mother, but a whole lot of different Ultimate Species as well. If I’m not mistaken about it, there was also a member of the Cat Spirit Tribe in there as well.」

「Nya, nyah!? C-Could it be that it was actually my Mom as well……?」

「No, I don’t really think that was the case here? I mean, a Cat Spirit Tribe’s lifespan is no different that of an ordinary human, right?」

「Oh, yeah, come to think of it, you’re right! Umm…… But for a moment out there I was sure that it would be my Mom……」

Does Kanade really think that Suzu-san is immortal or something like that?

Well, I mean, if Kanade was actually a small child, seeing just how powerful and awesome her Mother is, it actually wouldn’t be that weird for her to think that way.

「Anyways! What’s important here is that we were finally able to obtain a clue!」

Luna said so while being in a visibly good mood.

Maybe she felt good because their magic search proved to be a successful one.

At Luna’s words, Nina tilted her head slightly.

「Clue……. Did you really manage to obtain a clue?

「Yes! I mean, we have learned that our Mother was one of the people who sealed Iris away all those years ago! We couldn’t possibly ask for a better clue even if we wanted to, right?」

「But…… How exactly is that going to help us here……?」

「Hmm?　Well, that should be pretty self-explanatory, right…… I mean, oh! Yeah, that’s right. I see it now. I get it. I see what’s going on here.」

「Nina, could it be…… Or rather, are you all under the impression that our Mother is long dead by now, or something like that?」

「Huh? And that’s not the case here?」

Iris was sealed away over a hundred years ago.

How could Sora and Luna’s mother possibly be alive in the normal course of events……?

I mean, wait, what?

If Sora and Luna’s mother was already alive more than one hundred years ago, that would mean that Sora and Luna are also more than one hundred years old……?

But that cannot be true. I mean, no matter how you look at it, they both look to me as if they were fourteen years old at best……

Ahh, great. Just great. Now I’m getting more and more confused.

「Okay, so what’s the meaning behind all this?」

Tanya asked Sora and Luna, looking visibly impatient.

「Well, it’s fairly simple, really. The Spirit Tribe has a long life expectancy.」

「The average life expectancy for the Spirit Tribe members is about five hundred years. Our Mother is about three hundred years old, so it’s not surprising that she could have been the member of the party that sealed Iris away.」

「Hmm, I see.」

「Nya, nyah……? So, does that mean that Sora and Luna were born when their mother was about 300 years old, or……?」

「You, where did that even come from, huh? Is there some hidden meaning there?」

「N-No! Of course not, nya!」

Tanya gives me a dumbfounded look, and Kanade, who has turned beet red in the face, waved her hand to the sides with a flutter as if to cover up for a blunder of some sort.

Well, a lot of things could bother us about this whole revelation right here.

So to a certain extent I could understand just how Kanade felt.

But I digress here.

「So, where is your Mother right now, Sora and Luna?」

「Hmm, I wonder. Where WOULD she be right now? When we were still serving the village as Gatekeepers, she used to go somewhere all the time, running various errands and missions……」

「Thanks to that, she was not there when we needed her help the most.」

「Well, we can really consider ourselves lucky that Rein and the others were able to help us out and that we ended up meeting you guys in the first place.」

「On that point, though, Sora also agrees.」

「So, in other words, what you are saying is that neither Sora nor Luna has any idea where your Mother is at the current moment, right?」

Tina asked as she cracked the lid of the kettle that she was possessing.

Why did you let it crackle like that……?

Did she perhaps try to mimic the movements of her mouth, but using the kettle’s lid?

「We should be able to find it out if we were to go back to the Spirit Tribe’s village. I mean, someone in there is bound to know where she went, and when she should get back.」

「Or maybe, since it’s been so long since she last set out, she might have already finished all of her earrings, and she is already back.」

「That would be ideal, but wouldn’t that be way too much of a wishful thinking?」

Going back to the village of the Spirit Tribe.

Sora and Luna would have no problem with doing just that.

Sure, they might have thrown away their duty as the gatekeepers, but……

I don’t think that it would reason enough for them to be denied their entrance. I mean, they are still Spirit Tribes themselves.

It’s just a matter of everyone else, myself included. We have no idea how the people of the Spirit Tribe village would react to us.

「Muh, you see, that’s the problem.」

「If you just want us to move towards the entrance to the Spirit Tribe village, it’s relatively easy to do, but……」
