CHAPTER 18: THE SECOND CONTRACT PART 2
「Hmm, that’s a really good question…… I wonder what I should do?」
「Hey, come on now!」
「…… Just kidding. Of course, I’m not going to do that again.」
Tanya said and giggled.
She is more like a little devil than a dragon, it would seem.
「You guys managed to beat me fair and square…… Besides, the fights that I was getting into on that bridge could hardly be called real training. So of course I am going to leave that place alone.」
「Thank you for saying that. That’s reassuring.」
「But supposing that I was not going to listen to you guys…… What would you have done?」

Kanade asked while drinking tea after the dinner was over.
Maybe that’s because she’s a Cat Spirit Tribe, but she didn’t seem to like hot tea, and she kept blowing on it over and over again in an attempt to cool it down.

The sudden turn of events nearly caused me to blow out the tea I had been drinking for a while now.

Tanya sat up and put her hands around my neck and hugged me closely.
Kanade saw this and, for some reason, her tail got all panicky before slumping upside down.

Kanade’s adorable cat ears flattened and her tail drooped in a hefty fashion.
She seemed to be having a really nasty case of bad imagination and had a desperate look on his face.

Of course I would never hate you. I’m really glad to see you react like that on my behalf.
That series of reactions is a sign of how she really feels, that she doesn’t want to leave my side or see me grow to dislike her.
「I could never hate you, Kanade.」
「Really……? Do you really mean it……?」
「Isn’t it obvious? After all, you are my precious comrade, Kanade.」
「Nyafuh~♪! Rein, you’re so sweet~♪!」
「Hey, hey! Don’t ignore me here!」
「Then, if you don’t want us to ignore you, don’t be so mean to Kanade like you were just now. Like I said, Kanade is a very important comrade of mine.」
「Umm…… Well, I mean, I…… I’m…… sorry about that.」
「Right. I accept your apology and I forgive you.」

Reflexively, I patted Tanya’s head like I did to Kanade a while ago.
Hmm, that’s strange. Is she perhaps angry?
I looked at Tanya’s face fearfully, but she didn’t look angry at all.
Rather, her cheeks were stained red and she seemed somewhat happy.

Does me being a Beast Tamer really have anything to do with it?

「What? Isn’t that obvious? If Kanade has the contract with you, why shouldn’t I have the contract with you as well? Or are you trying to say that I do not really belong to the group at all?」
「Wait, wait, wait. Don’t just go and decide things like that on your own, please! I won’t lie, making a contract with a member of the Dragon Tribe certainly sounds really nice, but that was never my intention in the first place, so…… B-Besides! I don’t even know if I’ll be able to do it!」
「I’m sure that since it’s you, then you are going to be able to do it just fine.」
Both of them seem to trust me so unconditionally that it is really scary.
Kanade, I can understand. But how come Tanya is so trusting of me?
「Let’s just try it for the time being. If it fails, that’s fine with me. Well, I don’t expect it to fail in the slightest, mind you.」

Kanade would only go and reassure Tanya even more.

「All right. Then Tanyaa, sit in that chair over there, if you’d please.」
「Roger that.」.
Tanya sat down in the chair and faced me head on.
I then bit my finger and drew a magic circle with my own blood on the palm of my hand.
I then held my palm up towards Tanya.
「My name is Rain Shroud. I hereby forge a new covenant, and I hereby make a bond with you. With an oath in my heart, with hope in my heart, with power in my hands. Now answer me: what is thy name?」
「…… Tanya……」
The magic circle turned into particles of light and was sucked into Tania’s body in an instant.
「…… So? Is that it?」
「Umm, yeah. That’s right. We are basically done here.」
Not only did I make a contract with the Cat Spirit Tribe, but I was able to make a contract with the member of the Dragon Tribe as well……
I think I must have run out of luck for my entire lifetime now.
「Hmm…… So, this is the feeling of being tamed and under a contract, huh? It’s certainly a weird feeling, like I’m connected to Rein at all time and anywhere I go, but it’s not actually all that bad. Actually, I think I really like that feeling.」
Tanya then looked at me and smiled brightly.
