CHAPTER 212: A DATE WITH TANYA

「Come on Rein, right this way!」

Tanya was walking a few paces ahead of me and then she turned around and waved at me to hurry up and join her.

Just like Kanade the other day, I was going out with Tanya today to do some shopping……

As a matter of fact, it was only the two of us once again.

The timing wasn’t right for everyone else, as they already had some other things planned out for today……

They way this situation was playing out…… could it be that they have planned this in advance?

Oh well, I guess I am overthinking this way too much.

I don’t know what the point of doing that would be for everyone, so there is no way that this was actually the case.

「By the way, what is the thing that you wanted to buy today, Tanya?」

「Accessories.」

「Accessories…… Ah, like jewelry and such?」

For a moment, I didn’t know what she was talking about.

It was partly because I was a man, but also because I have never had the opportunity to get my hands on any accessories before.

Soon we came to a corner and the street with a row of stalls lined up alongside it.

「Hey, Rein……」

The next thing I knew, Tanya was looking at me with a sharp glare.

It was only a matter of course.

We were supposed to go shopping together, but here I was, leaving Tanya on her own like that. So it was a small wonder that she would be mad at me.

「S-Sorry about that, Tanya. It just…… sort of happened, I guess……」

「Goodness gracious. Leaving a lady you are supposed to escort on her own? What a failure of a man.」

「I’m most terribly sorry……」

I put the book back and looked at Tanya.

「Well then, what kind of accessories do you want to buy, Tanya?」

「I haven’t decided on specifics yet. I want to see them in person first. Also, I would appreciate your opinion as well, Rein.」

「…… My opinion? But I don’t know anything about accessories in the first place.」

「I don’t care how much you know about them or how much you do not know. It’s just that I want your opinion in general. I don’t know if certain things suit me or not, but you can tell me what you think about that.」

「Oh…… Yes, I can certainly help you with that.」

「I-It’s not that I’m curious about your preferences or anything like that, okay!? It’s just that the only proper man around our house is you, Rein and I just want your opinion on the subject! I have ulterior motives here!」
「Yeah, of course. I realize that.」

「Well, the fact that something like that was enough to convince you is actually kind of a bummer. You Insensitive Tamer, you!」

And here we go, another strange title by which they called me, and another one that I completely did not understand.

「But anyways, I am going to rely on your opinions for today, Rein! Let me know what you think. What kind of accessories do you think would be best for me?」

「Hmm, well, let’s see……」

It was a huge responsibility, to have to choose Tanya’s accessories.

If I choose something weird, Tanya might get mad at me again……

So I needed to choose wisely, and something that she would definitely like.

Let’s do our best to choose the best possible thing!

Rein was picking out the accessories with a serious look on his face.

He looked so serious while going on about it, as if he was in the middle of a fight or something like that. It almost made me want to call out to him that he did not have to choose so seriously.

But, oh well……

「…… This is actually making me kind of happy.」

The person I love is seriously choosing an accessory for me.

It’s a wonderful situation to be in.

As a maiden in love, my heart was pounding really hard inside of my chest.

…… I wonder if that was how Kanade felt when she went on a date with Rein before?

I couldn’t calm myself down, and I looked at Rein’s face over and over again.

Of course, I would quickly become really embarrassed and look away, but then I’d quickly bring my gaze back to him.

I would then repeat such unfamiliar behavior.

I couldn’t quite explain it.

That’s because I think that’s what “love” is all about.

Wait…… Come to think of it, I was thinking about something really embarrassing just now……

If Rein was to find out what I was thinking about here, I might die from embarrassment.

「Tanya.」

「Hyaaaaaahhhhhh!?」

Suddenly, when Rein called out my name, my voice turned into a shriek in return.

「What happened?」

「N-Nothing! It’s nothing! Y-Yeah, nothing at all.」

「No matter how long I look at those things, everything here seems to be…… Umm…… Tanya? Is everything alright?」

「Y-Yes! I’m fine!　I’m totally fine!　More importantly, what’s the matter?」

I forcefully digressed the topic of the conversation.

「I picked out something that would suit you, Tanya, but…… What do you think?」

Rain held out a pair of ruby earrings to me.

The ruby earrings were only thirty pieces of silver.

I expected them to cost at least one gold coin, but that wasn’t the case here.

「Hmm, let’s see…… Alright, I’ll take them!」

「Roger that.」

「Huh? What?」

Rein gave the stall owner a soft look and gave him the money to buy the earrings.

Today, I also brought my wallet with me.

I had a good amount of money inside of it, too.

So, why is it…….?

Rein seemed to have understood my doubts and said in a slightly embarrassed tone.

「It’s a man’s responsibility to buy a gift for a woman like that, right?」

「…… Rein……」

「Well, I mean, umm…… Let me buy this for you for a change. It’s my way of saying thank you for all you’ve done for me until now.」

「…… Thank you.」

I smiled and accepted the earrings from him.

And then I put them on as soon as I could.

「Well……. What do you think?」

「Yeah, it looks good on you. You look great in it.」

It was a very simple compliment, but……

But I was very happy to receive it, because that very compliment was so like Rein to say.
