CHAPTER 231: THE TEST OF WISDOM PART 1

After we were able to pass the second test without a problem, we were led to the next test site.

To that end, we were moved into the ruins themselves.

We were led into a large hall, which was filled to the brim with tables and chairs.

For some reason, that exact setting made me think of school and a classroom.

「The next test is going to be a written test. When it comes to A Rank Adventurers, they are required to possess not only excellent strength of their bodies, but also to possess extensive knowledge about the world and everything that’s happening in it. Therefore, you will now take the written exam to test that knowledge of yours.」

When Cell gave us that short introduction, she then gave a signal and other examiners started to hand out the test papers to the participants.

「In order to pass the test, you need to score at least eighty points. But if your score is even one point below that threshold, this means that you will be instantly disqualified, with no appeals or room for discussion. However, this time around, as long as any one of your party members manage to receive a passing grade, this gives the entire party a pass as well. This test needs you to prove that each of your party has at least one person with a good head on their shoulders.」

Eighty points, huh……?

Depending on the content of the questions themselves, this might have been pretty tough to pull off.

But I don’t really want to give up before I give it my very best, so for the time being let’s focus on doing just that.

「The time limit for this written test is one hour. Of course, this goes without saying, but if you are going to be caught cheating, this means that you are going to be disqualified on the spot. And for those of you who think that you can get away with cheating as long as you won’t get caught red-handed…… Just know that we are going to be monitoring you in every possible way imaginable.」

I then cast a quick glance around, and I could actually see that there were other examiners scattered all over the hall.

Some of them were just standing there, while others were holding small crystal balls in their hands.

They must be using magic tools to detect magic. That way the examiners would be able to monitor the entire hall for any possible attempts at cheating and foul play, without leaving any blind spots open.

「Alright then, you can begin!」

The moment Cell gave the signal, all participants turned towards their test papers.

「Oh wow……」

Seeing the contents of the paper, I just couldn’t help myself but to raise my voice in astonishment.

Starting with some questions on general world knowledge, the test would then shift towards history, geography, mathematics…… There were a variety of different questions of varying difficulty lined up right before my eyes.

But to make the long story short, all of those questions were on a relatively high level and seemed to be quite difficult to solve.

I wonder if everyone from my party is going to be okay with questions this difficult?

I then moved my gaze slightly to the sides, just about enough so that I could not be suspected of attempting cheating, and I cast a quick glance at my friends.

「Unyah……? Nya, nyaahh……? Haaauuhhhh……」

I could see that it was not even a few minutes into the test and Kanade’s eyes were already spinning around in circles, smoke about to start coming out of her head from excessive amounts of thinking.

Thinking about stuff was never Kanade’s strongest forte, so I imagined that her brain must have been feeling pretty overworked right about now.

Now, I hope that she can still do her best here, possibly without pushing herself too hard. We wouldn’t want her to catch a fever from overworking herself too much.

「Suu…… Suu…… Kuh……」

As for Tanya, she was…… Huh!? She was asleep!?

There is just no way in hell that she was able to solve all of those hard and tricky questions in such a short amount of time, so she must have basically given up when he saw the questions and realized that solving them was well beyond her mental capacity.

The way in which she was so fearlessly asleep right now…… I was as if she was proclaiming that she was going to leave this to the rest of us!

「Fumu, fumu. I see, I see…… So it’s that kind of problem, hm?」

「Fuahahahaha!!! If this is the level of all of those questions and problems, I can take them on, no sweat!」

「You there. Please refrain from speaking out loud, even if you are talking to yourselves.」

Luna was smiling and laughing to herself as she would normally do, which apparently brought the attention of the examiner towards her.

Apart aside from that minor hiccup, both Sora and Luna seemed to be doing reasonably well with their tests.

「Hmm…… Uhh? Nnhh…… Uhmm?」

When it comes to Nina, she was tilting her head incessantly, with a truly puzzled look on her face most of the time.

I mean, it was pretty understandable from her.

She was still really young, so there were a whole lot of things about this world and its intricacies that she was not able to learn about or understand yet.

However, it was pretty apparent that she did not want to just give up on the spot, and despite it being tremendously difficult for her, she continued to work hard on every question, wanting to at least come up with an answer, even if that answer was to be incorrect.

And as for Tina……

「……………」

Ooohhh!

Surprisingly enough, Tina was solving one problem after another at a truly tremendous rate.

The sound of the pen dancing across her test paper was constantly singing in my ears, as she never stopped filling in her answers.

I have never even thought about it until just now, but could it be that……

…… Could it be that Tina is actually really smart?

「Alright, I cannot lose here!」

After all, I can’t just leave everything to Tina here. That would destroy my pride as a man.

I have to do my very best with this test, too!

So focusing on the problems right in front of me, I started to move my hand with the pen across the test paper.

And then, once the test was finally over.

We had to wait inside of the test hall for about an hour or so for the examiners to be done with the grading process of all of the tests.

And then, right after the one hour mark passed, the examiners were ready to announce the results to the participants.

「The only ones from our group that managed to obtain a passing grade were Tina and I. So I would say that we cut it dangerously close this time around.」

Yes, only Tina and I were able to obtain the required score of eighty points or above.
