CHAPTER 234: THE FINAL EXAM, START! PART 1

Although I used some of my extra strength in that mock battle against Arios……

After that business was well and over with, I was able to rest for an additional half an hour or so.

During that time, my body was moving well enough and without any signs of something being done to me.

Really now, what did Arios want to achieve by going into that mock battle with me?

While I was still curious about that……

Since we had the final test coming right up, I needed to focus on that.

It would seem that the preparations have already been completed and the final test was finally going to take place.

There were eight parties left, thirty people in total.

How many of those thirty would be able to receive the promotion to A Rank?

But no matter what hardships were going to await us, I was going to give it my best and show everyone that we had what it took to receive a passing grade from this test as well!

「Alright then, we are going to start the final test now.」

Once again Cell stood in front of everyone gathered as she proceeded to explain what the test was going to be all about.

「The final test is going to require you to conquer this entire ruins’ complex. There are many traps set in the ruins, and in addition to that, we also unleashed some monsters to roam the halls. You have to overcome all these difficulties and reach the lowest level of the ruins. That is the one and only condition needed for you to pass the test.

「How many layers of the ruins are there in total?

After Cell was pretty much finished with her explanation, there was someone who naturally asked the question that was on everyone’s minds.

「Unfortunately, that I cannot tell you. Getting to know that information is going to be a pivotal part of the final test. If you are going to raid the inside of the previously unexplored ruins, surely you won’t know the exact number of levels they might have, or the exact layout of each floor, right? That is why I can’t tell you that, as you have to learn that on your own.」

「Okay, so how many people are going to pass the test?」

「There is no limit as to how many people can pass. If an individual or the party manage to arrive at the bottom of the ruins without giving up alongside the way, this will automatically give them a passing grade.」

「What are the ranks of the monsters that we might encounter on our way?」

「The vast majority of the monsters are of C Rank, but there are also a couple of B Ranks mixed with them. As long as you work together as a party and deal with them swiftly, they shouldn’t pose any threat at all to you.」

We could see that people were asking a whole lot of questions.

I made sure to carefully listen to every single one of those questions, and then I organized them and their answers inside of my head.

「Oh, oh! Question! I have a question!」

Kanade shouted as she raised her arm in the air while hopping on the spot like some sort of impatient little child.

「So we just have to get to the bottom level of this place, right?」

「Yes, that’s right.」

「Does that mean that I can just punch my way down through the floor and call it a day?」

「…… Excuse me, what?」

「Can I go like, *BAM!* and punch my way down through the floor? I think it would be the fastest way of going down to the bottom, but can I really do that? Or maybe not?」

As expected, Kanade’s question was so unexpected and so shocking that Cell froze in place upon hearing it.

The other examiners were of course laughing in response to hearing such blatant nonsense……

However, Cell’s face remained strained and serious.

We have been traveling together for a little while, so we have grown somewhat close to one another.

So Cell understood right away that Kanade’s question was serious, and that she was really capable of doing something like that.

And Cell clearly understood that Kanade possessed the power necessary to turn that question into reality.

「…… No, I’m afraid that you can’t do that.」

「Ohhh, why not?」

「You see, these ruins were used as a defensive fort in the past, so they are pretty sturdy, but even so, they will deteriorate over time. If you try to break the floor on each floor like that, the worst thing that could happen here is that you will cause the entire complex to collapse. So please refrain from doing that.」

「Umm, well…… Maybe if I just do it for a little bit……?」

「Absolutely not.」

「Unyan……」

Under Cell’s stern gaze, Kanade had no other choice but to resign from her idea and her ears dropped visibly as she was clearly depressed because of that.

Kanade, it would really help us if you were not coming up with such reckless and ridiculous ideas.

And even better, it would be the best if you were not trying to put those absurd ideas into practice.

Lately, I feel like Kanade has become more active when it comes to her role in the party, or rather, she was becoming more and more reckless as the days went by…..?」

Could it be that she was being influenced by Tanya’s specific way of being?

Those two seemed to be getting along well these days, but maybe Tanya’s recklessness had infected Kanade to a certain extent. Which was not a good thing.

「Hey, Rain? Is it just me, or did you just think of something incredibly rude?」

「I think you’re imagining things?」

As expected, Tanya’s instinct and intuition were as sharp as ever.

「Is there anyone else who has some questions?」

Cell asked that while looking around, but no one raised their hand anymore.

We were already given some snippets of information, so now it was our job to organize that information and put them into practice.

「If there are no other questions, then let us proceed to start the final test.」

At Cell’s signal, the final test began in earnest.

Our party was going to be the last one to enter.

The other seven parties had already gone inside.

So now it was finally our turn.

「Rein.」

As we were about to enter the ruins, I was approached by a cell.

「Good luck out there.」

I honestly didn’t expect to hear some words of support coming from Cell..

I was a little bit surprised by that, but….

That made me even more motivated to do this.

We are definitely going to pass this test!

When the door behind us finally closed……
