Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 243 Part 1

CHAPTER 243: THE CAPTIVE PART 1

While we were being transported, I tried to desperately plead my innocence.

But unfortunately, no one would even listen to me.

If this was the city of Horizon, maybe the outcome of this situation would have been different.

But this was the royal capital.

No one knows me here, and they had no idea of my accomplishments and personality.

On the contrary, Arios was more or less a celebrity.

He was revered by the people as the Hero, and no one would even dare to question his words.

So if Arios declares that I am a culprit in this case, everyone would take his words for granted.

Even though I had no memory of this incident, but Arios had the proof of my guilt in his hands.

So no matter what, there was no way that I would ever be able to prove my innocence here.

I was separated from my comrades and thrown into a cell in the headquarters of the Knights Order in the royal capital.

…… And just like that, one week passed.

「Damn it!」

There was nothing here that I could do, except from passing the time in a tormenting manner.

It’s already been a week since our imprisonment.

Will everyone else be okay……?

Kanade, Tanya, and Luna had some truly impulsive tempers to them, so I was actually worried that they might have done something reckless throughout the past week.

Sora and Tina were always really calm, but I worry about them because they have a nasty tendency to push themselves way too hard sometimes.

Nina was still very young and I hope that being put in jail doesn’t remind her of what happened to her when Edgar managed to capture her in the past.

「Though…… I suppose I should really be worrying about myself first and foremost.」

I have been in this jail cell for over a week now.

Several times a day, somebody would come to my cell and interrogate me for at least a few hours.

Other than that, I was never allowed to go out, and I was being kept here under tight security at all times.

The prison seemed to be built deep underground, so no sunlight could reach my cell.

I have just managed to keep track of the number of days that have been locked in here thanks to how many meals were being served to me per day.

But still…… Being locked up like that was really tough.

Being squeezed into a tiny place like this, being interrogated over and over again with no end in sight……

I was starting to feel really exhausted, both physically and mentally as well.

I could also feel my spirit being worn out slowly but surely.

So if I ended up feeling like this……

If everyone else was going through the same ordeal as I was, this meant that this must have been even tougher for them.

「Even though I need to do something to break out of here and save everyone…… I don’t know what to do. For the first time in a really long time, I can’t see the way that would lead me to my goal.」

The only thing I knew for sure was that sitting around here was not going to make things worse than they already were.

No…… In fact, I was SURE that it would make things worse.

The evidence Arios has provided was perfect from every possible side and angle.

It was incontestable and should be enough to prove in court of law that I have indeed committed the crime of which I was accused of.

If things continue in this fashion, then I am going to be tried as a murderer for sure.

Before that happens, I have to prove my innocence at all costs.

But for as long as I was locked in a place like this, there was no way that it was ever going to happen.

「Does that mean that the best course of action here would be to simply break out of this prison……?」

A creeping, disturbing thought crossed my mind at that moment.

There was nothing wrong with the idea of escaping itself.

This place was only the headquarters of the Knights’ Order, and it was pretty tightly constructed, but……

Over the past week, I have figured out the knights’ behavioral patterns and other things like that.

I don’t think that breaking out of here would actually be something in the realm of the impossible.

But even supposing that I manage to escape from here, what would I do then?

I have nothing with which I would be able to resolve this situation.

And since I had no way of acting freely from the shadows, I guess that staying put would be the only way for me, but……

「At this rate, I guess that I will just stay locked up in here just like I am right now…… So, do I really want to escape from here? At the very least, I would be able to see everyone else and then……」

As I was thinking about what was about to come to me, I heard footsteps approaching.

Multiple footsteps, in fact.

Could it be the knights?

However, among those footsteps there was one that sounded really light when compared to the rest of them.

As I was wondering about that, the footsteps stopped just before the door leading to my cell.

「You can leave now. I will be fine on my own.」

「B-But…… Your Highness, he’s a filthy murderer! We can’t possibly leave you alone and……

「He’s imprisoned at the current moment. And there are thick doors separating the two of us. So I don’t see a problem with that, do you?」

「B-But this is……」

「Leave us alone for the time being. That’s an order.」

「…… Y-Yes, Your Highness.」

I thought I heard someone talking just now……

And then, I could see the door to my cell open up ever so slightly.

And then a familiar face showed up in the opening……

「Hello there, Rein-san.」

「Thalia-sama!」

The one to appear in front of me was Thalia-sama with a somewhat mischievous look on her face.

「Why are you in a place like this, Thalia-sama…… Could it be that this is a dream?」

「No, I assure you that this is reality. But I must say, being able to see your surprised face like that, Rein-san, that’s quite a reward that I managed to get for all of my troubles. It was worth it for me to come all the way out here.」

I don’t know what it was that Thalia-sama wanted from me here, but……

Wasn’t that basically a golden opportunity for me?

If Thalia-sama really is on my side here, I may be able to create a situation where I might not actually get acquitted of all of the charges pressed against me, but to actually get in a state that would be really close to that.

But anyways, I wanted to open my mouth and speak up, but.

「Shhh.」

Thalia-sama put a finger to her mouth and let out a quiet sound, showing me that I should be quiet for now as well.
