CHAPTER 25: THE UNWANTED REUNION PART 2
「Oh, no, no. It’s nothing like that. It’s just that…… we happen to be something of an old acquaintances, him and we. And we were just hoping that he might be able to help us out with a slight predicament that we have found ourselves in.」
「Oh, I see. So that’s how it is, huh?」
「Yes, and in that case, we are going to pay a visit to the plains.」
「Yes, please be careful and have a good day.」

「Nyan, nyara~! Nyan, nyara~! Nya, nya, nya, nyan~♪!」
Just like every single day for a while now, today we were also on our way back home after successfully completing the request that we have taken.
And just like usual, Kanade, who was walking at the very front, was humming some sort of strange song.
「What is that song?」
「Hmm~, I don’t know. What is it, indeed~?」
「So even though you are the one humming it, you have no idea what it is?」
「I just can’t help it but to hum that melody instinctively whenever something good happens that make me feel happy.」
「I mean, was there anything in particular that made you feel happy just now? We just happened to complete our request, you know?」
「That means a whole lot of reward money! And lots of money means lots of delicious food for us to enjoy later! Nyafuuh~♪!」
「Ooh, so that’s what it is all about, huh?」
I chuckled together with Tanya upon realizing that.
Kanade has a really obvious and straightforward personality, doesn’t she?
But I guess that’s what makes Kanade so appealing in the first place.
She’s as pure as a child, and wears a bright smile on her face that cheers up everyone who happens to see her.
It is the sort of ability that I could never have. Something I cannot do no matter what.
「Say, isn’t your wallet starting to fill up rather nicely by now?」
Suddenly, Tanya asked me a question like that.
「Well. now that you mention it…… Lately, we have been making quite good money if I do say so myself.」
At the current moment, there are eight gold coins and thirty four silver coins sitting inside of my wallet.
Aside from that, we also had about eighty copper coins.
We won’t have to worry about our accommodation for the time being, and we can eat reasonably good food every day if we wanted to.
「So, does that mean that we have some funds to spend?」
「I guess so, yeah.」
「Well then, why don’t we get ourselves some new equipment? Rein, I’m only noticing it now, but you do not have any sort of proper equipment on you!」
「…… Now that you mention it.」
I used to have some Legendary-grade equipment on me when I was still with the Hero’s Party, but it was all confiscated from me when I was kicked out.
After that, the dagger I bought with my meager money was quickly broken against that Killer Tiger.
Because of all the things that have happened since then, I have completely forgotten to prepare some new equipment for myself.
「Somehow, we managed to get by without equipment at all…… Or could it actually be that we are the strongest without it? Besides, the two of us might not actually need any equipment in the first place, but the same is not true in regards to you, Rein. You might have made contracts with two different Ultimate Species and received their blessings as a result, but that doesn’t mean that you can disregard equipping yourself properly.」
「Alright, I can see your point. So, how about we first go back to the Guild to report the quest being done, and then we can do a small tour around item and armor shops in town?」
「Nyah…… But what about food……?」
「Right. We can do all that after we get something nice to eat first.」
「Nyah~♪! Rein, you’re the best! I knew you would understand right away!」
「…… Goodness gracious. You have a real soft spot when it comes to Kanade.」
「But it’s not like you have any objections to that plan either, right, Tanya?」

「T-This is, I mean…… I-It’s just that I am beginning to feel slightly hungry myself! Yes, that’s it! It’s not like I was trying to accommodate with Kanade or anything like that, so don’t misunderstand!」
It’s been a few days since Tanya joined our group, and now I was finally beginning to understand just what kind of personality she was having, and how to appropriately deal with her.
To make a long story short, she is a person who can’t be honest with her own feelings and let them be known straight away, and so she would hide them under the facade of snarky comments.
But in reality she is like a child, being awfully stubborn and cute at the same time.
「Anyah? What’s with that look, Tanya?」
「N-Nothing! It’s nothing.」
Laughing together like that, we walked down the road that led back to the city, when……
「Hey there, Rein.」
…… I froze in place with a smile still present on my face.
「…… Arios? And others as well……」
As if they were waiting for us, the Hero Arios’s group appeared right in front of us.
「It’s been a while, hasn’t it? How have you been? Are those two people over there with you, perhaps?」
「Yes, I’m doing fine. Thanks for asking. Now bye.」
「Hey, hey, now. We haven’t seen each other for a while now, and when we finally do, you’re acting all rude like that. How about we talk for a moment?」
Is this Hero for real? What is he even saying?
What are we supposed to talk about? And you expect me to smile and lough while being at it?
The dark emotions that had been gone since I happened to meet Kanade and Tanya surfaced inside of my mind once again.
「There is nothing that we might want to talk about. You’ve been clear about it the last time.」
「Oh, come on now, don’t be so dull! After everything was said and done, we took some time to reflect on our actions, you know? And we have arrived at the conclusion that no matter how little use you were to the Party, there surely was a better way for us to say it. A better way to handle that matter.」
「You know, it’s not like we all actually hate you, or anything like that. It’s just, we had no other choice but to put it like that. Please, forgive us for that.」
「But at the same time, you know, there is no way that we were the ones at fault here. I mean, it’s obvious as a day that you were the problem here. But that being said, we might have actually gone a little bit overboard with the things that we said to you. So for that, we really wanted to apologize to you.」
