CHAPTER 252: EVEN IF IT REALLY IS A TRAP PART 1

The following is a summary of what was written inside of the pamphlet that the knights were handing out on the streets.

It turned out that a number of the Ultimate Species were hiding in the royal capital and planning a terrorist attack.

When Arios found out about it, he captured those Ultimate Species without delay.

Although the Ultimate Species were locked in a dungeon and had magic-inhibiting shackles placed upon them, it was only a matter of time when they would break free, so they couldn’t just be left alone to their own devices.

They were horrible villains who plotted a terror attack against the people.

Although the members of the Ultimate Species do not technically fall under the jurisdiction of the state, their crimes were so great that they were deemed necessary to be judged by the kingdom’s court of law.

And the result of the court proceedings were……

That the captured members of the Ultimate Species were to be executed the following day, without any chance for appeal.

Also, as a precautionary measure, the execution was to be carried out at the ruins outside the royal capital, “The Earth’s Wedge”.

Naturally, on the day of the execution, only those who would be involved with the process were to be allowed entry into the ruins.

Of course, the security around the ruins themselves would be substantially increased.

…… That’s all that was written in the pamphlet.

Peeking at me from the side, I could see with the corner of my eye that the expression on Thalia-sama’s face was quite bitter, indeed.

「This is…… A trap, right?」

「Yes, that’s right. Honestly, I would be really surprised if it was NOT a trap.」

Maybe it was something that Arios made sure to organize on the spot.

During the past two days, he must have noticed that the magic tool in his possession was swapped with a fake.

That magic tool was the piece of evidence that contained the images of me killing those unfortunate Adventurers inside of the ruins.

So if it were to turn out that those images were fake, it would certainly serve to deteriorate Arios’s position and reputation even further.

Or it might actually contain evidence that would basically end Arios’s career as a Hero on the spot.

It might even contain some important evidence about the truth behind the deaths of those Adventurers.

So, having been robbed of that precious magic tool, Arios must have gotten pretty desperate.

However, it would be extremely hard to find me hiding somewhere in the royal capital before I would be able to decipher the magic tool and learn the truth.

So in that case, Arios must have decided that if he couldn’t find me, he would just make me come to him instead.

And so, he ordered the execution of my friends, since they were basically hostages in his hands……!

「God damn it!」

An uncontrollable rage rose up inside of me all of a sudden, and I couldn’t really help myself but to raise my voice in frustration.

I even wanted to take a chair in my hands and shatter it against the ground in a fit of rage for a short moment, but I somehow managed to hold myself back from doing that.

If I did that, I would certainly frighten Thalia-sama, and I did not want that……

There’s no point in letting your emotions get the better of you and lashing out at a time like this.

「Rein-san……」

Gently, Thalia-sama took my hand in her own.

「T-Thalia-sama……?」

「I don’t really think there is any point in me saying these things but still let me say them…… Please, try to calm down.」

「……………」

「I can’t help you with your current predicament if you get all worked up and emotional, and you might even end up doing something you might really regret down the line. And I absolutely cannot have you do that. So…… I know it may be difficult, and that you might be getting impatient here, but…… Please, Rein-san…… Just calm down and don’t do anything rash…… Just be yourself」

「Just…… be myself……?」

It was a strange feeling.

I felt like there was some strange kind of warmth that was flowing into me from Thalia-sama’s hand in the place where our hands were connected.

Her warmth seemed to fill me up……

And somehow, I was naturally starting to calm down bit by bit.
　
I then let out a small laugh.

「Thank you so much, Thalia-sama. Thanks to you, I was able to get myself back on track.」

「I’m glad to hear that, Rein-san. So, does that mean that I was actually able to help you out, even if just a little bit?」

「Oh, you are way too humble, Thalia-sama. You have helped me many times up until now, and you’ve helped me right now…… So you have helped me a whole lot. Thank you for that.」

「Fufu, I’m glad to hear that. I’m glad I was able to help you, Rein-san.」

Like a flower blooming in the spring, Thalia-sama smiled in a warm way at me.

Her smile was just so beautiful.

I could feel my heart calming down instantly upon seeing it.

「But anyways…… Arios, that bastard. I can’t believe that he would really do something like this…… Hmm?」

I suddenly began to wonder.

When you do something as huge as that, there is no way that people wouldn’t just start to openly talk about it, right?

But I don’t think that the King would ever allow for something as ridiculous as that to pass just like that……

But when I put that question to Thalia-sama, she suddenly gave me a rather difficult look.

「You see, Rein-san…… It seems that…… My Father is away from the royal capital right now on some sort of official business……」

「What?　If I may be so bold here, Thalia-sama…… The moment that you were “kidnapped”, your Father put some sort of official business before doing everything in his power to find you and bring you back home?」

「Well, what can I say here…… That’s just the kind of a father that he is.

「…… I see.」

He was certainly someone who had his priorities straight, that King.

I have only seen him a few times, but I was under the impression that he was a very reasonable kind of person.

I was sure that he must have been concerned for his daughter’s safety, but at the same time he would never allow himself for that situation to affect his official duties.

「As for what we are going to be doing next…… I think I’m going to go back to the castle for the time being.」

Thalia-sama said so with a strong determination in her eyes.

「While it is true that Arios-sama is a Hero and he possesses great power and influence in the royal capital, this doesn’t mean that we should be allowing something like this to happen. So I will go back to the castle and talk to my advisors there, to see if we can stop this madness from happening.
