CHAPTER 34: THE SHADOW KNIGHT BATTLE PART 2
Just as Rein predicted earlier, the magic-based attacks ended up doing no harm to the Shadow Knight at all. But instead, they managed to piss it off more and more. Because little did they know, the thing that the Shadow Knight hated more than anything else in this world was the idea that someone would be looking down on it.
「Hey, Tanya! What do you think you’re doing!?」
「Yeah, I know! I’m well aware of that! But relax, I will prioritize protecting this girl before anything else! So the two of you better use that opportunity to put that bastard to the ground as soon as possible!」
Tania then hugged Sora’s younger sister with both hands as she said that.
Then, a pair of dragon wings sprouted from Tanya’s back…… and she jumped high in the air, taking flight and leaving this place.
「You fool! Do you really think I am going to let you go just like that!? Think again!」
As Tanya was about to flee from here to safety with Sora’s little sister in tow, the Shadow Knight tried to chase after them by leaping into the air as well.
「Aren’t you forgetting about something……!?」
「We are still here, too!!!」
「Guaah!?」
Once again, before the Shadow Knight was able to do anything, both Kanade and I managed to hit it hard with a nicely timed combination attack.
Kanade jumped up high in the sky and shot down the Shadow Knight who was about to leap in the air with her heel that she drove deep into its body.
And when it was knocked down to the ground, I followed up with a powerful blow of my own.
Finally, Kanade, who fell from the sky back to the ground, unleashed a painful blow onto the Shadow Knight, as if she was a meteorite crushing down.
「You…… You stupid, insolent INSEEECCCTTTSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!」
Even though its entire body seemed to be in tatters and torn to shreds, the Shadow Knight stood up and swung his great sword at us with great fervor.
And the shockwave alone created from that broad slash was like a miniature storm.
A storm of blades that cut through everything it would touch, aimed to strike at Kanade and I.
「This guy is way too stubborn for his own good!」
「Well, as was to be expected of a C-rank monster! It’s way tougher than anything that we have fought before! Its durability is actually quite impressive, in a sense. So, is this the power of the Demon Lord’s follower? And his entire army is composed of guys like that?」
「Nyauuuh, w-what do we do, Rein? At this rate…… We are going to be here forever and we still won’t be able to defeat this guy!」
What we need here is the plan that would allow us to defeat the Shadow Knight while simultaneously being able to avoid all of its attacks.
A strategy like the one I used against Tanya and Arios would not work because it was a demon clad in armor from head to toe.
Besides, seeing that the Shadow Knight is a demon, it would surely be able to counteract that strategy, with it having way much more power.
It’s best to assume that a simple poison from a regular animal is not going to work against it.
So, I guess that we have no other choice but to just overpower it with brute force alone.
But then again, it was able to withstand a continuous flurry of attacks from Kanade, a member of the Cat Spirit Tribe.
Of course, if we just kept on attacking it like this, surely it would fall at some point in time……
But the longer we allow this battle to continue, the more likely it is that we would be struck with a painful counterattack.
If possible, I would like to end this battle with one blow, all at once.
「Kanade! I am going to stop this guy from moving, so you go ahead and give him your best shot with all of your power!」
「B-But he’s so tough! I don’t know if I will be able to do it!」
「I have an idea how we can handle that! So trust me and just do it!」
「O-Okay!」
What are we going to do here!? No words like that were thrown my way right now.
I could only feel Kanade’s limitless trust in me.
Now I’m going to respond to those feelings of hers in earnest!
「Gooo!!!」
I then made a temporary contract with a swarm of ordinary bees remotely in the area.
I let them fly and swarm around the Shadow Knight’s head and take away his vision for a while.
「W-What the hell are those things!? Are they bugs!? Grrrgh! Y-You little…… Get the hell off of me!!」
The Shadow Knight started to frantically swing his sword around as he tried to chase the swarm of bees away.
However, due to being too huge himself, its attacks never hit the little bees.
I then dashed behind the rampaging Shadow Knight and delivered a full-force blow to the back of his knees!
「Guaah!?」
Because of its humanoid form, we could vaguely speculate that the Shadow Knight’s weaknesses are basically the same as that of regular humans.
It’s just like I have read.
The Shadow Knight lost its balance and fell to its knees on the ground.
「Kanade, now!」
「NYAAAN!!!!!!」
Kanade kicked the ground at once.
At the same time, I cast a certain spell.
「“Boost”!!!」
It was a spell that temporarily raises the power of the beast that the Beast Tamer had a contract with.
Previously, I didn’t have enough magic power to use it at all.
But now that I’ve gained Tania’s Magic Power boost…… Even I can……
「UNYAAAHHH!!! NYAAAHHH!!!」
Kanade, whose power was amplified by my magic, struck the Shadow Knight’s chest with all of her might.
BANG!!!
With a loud roar, there was a huge gaping hole that was opened right in the middle of the Shadow Knight’s chest.

From the hole in its chest, cracks started to spread across the Shadow Knight’s entire body……
Its sword and armor shattered into tiny little pieces.
A black mist flooded the air, but it quickly dissipated as it dissolved into the atmosphere.
「Uwaah! Uwaah! What was that!? I was able to suddenly get that tremendous power boost……!!」
「It’s one of the Beast Tamer’s unique spells, you see. With that spell, I was able to multiply your power at least several times over, Kanade.」
「Nyah? …… Oh, come to think of it, I’ve heard that there are Beast Tamers out there who can use such things. But those things should only be used by an incredibly limited number of people, you know……」
「Well, I mean, it’s Rein who we are talking about here…… Someone who does the unexpected on a regular basis. So why are we being weirded out by that now?」
Tanya, who seemed to have heard the story and came down from the sky, said so, somewhat dismayed.
「I’ve basically decided not to be surprised by anything when it amounts to Rein anymore.」
「Nyaah…… Well, I guess it’s better to get used to it soon.」
「I’m not sure I’m comfortable with that kind of convincing……」
Guys…… I’m not some walking human-shaped surprise box, you know……?
「「I mean, it’s all because Rein is always defying expectations and goes beyond the common understanding.」」
「Oh, come on now, guys! I’m not……」

Why is it that they are so in sync with one another only in those kinds of situations?
「Oh well. At any rate…… Good work out there, Kanade!」

Kanade chuckled and then decided to do a double “V” sign with her fingers.
