CHAPTER 39: MATERIALS SHORTAGES PART 2

So I can’t really help it but to feel curious about this whole situation……

「Hey Rein, hey Rein.」

Kanade called to me while looking at my face.

「Hm? What’s wrong?」

「Oh, no, it’s nothing much. It’s just that…… I was just curious, that’s all.」

After that, I shared with everyone else present at the moment the questions that were swirling inside of my mind at the current moment.

「Nyah…… I don’t really know much about stuff like that, but if you say so, then it must be true, Rein. Something really fishy is going on here.」

「Kanade, you seriously need to learn how to think about things more on your own, girl.」

「Nya, nyah!? How rude! That was really mean, Sora!」

「My beloved sister, you’d better not expect all that much from her in the first place. I mean, this is the Cat Spirit Tribe that we are talking about here. THey are all muscle heads, and we all know that thinking is not necessarily one of their strongest suits.」

「And that remark is even worse than the previous one!」

「It’s a joke, don’t take it all too seriously. It was a joke that was supposed to lighten up the mood in here…… Fufufu.」

Honestly, at this point in time I wouldn’t be surprised to see a pair of devil-like wings and tail growing out of Luna’s back and butt.

「But anyways…… What is it that you want to do now, Rein?」

「Yeah, about that…… I would really like to investigate that matter. However, I also do realize that this is not something that I get to decide completely on my own here…… Besides, if this thing ends up being nothing all that serious, it could just be that I was dragging you along completely needlessly. And not to mention that we just managed to get that Lost Forest business out of the way, too…… So I should go on my own and investigate it properly, while you stay behind and rest for the time being and……」

「Oh, come on, are you really worried about that now? Just do whatever it is that you want and don’t worry about us.」.

Tanya said so in an as-a-matter-of-fact tone.

「Huh?」

「I’m sure that no one here is going to complain or mind some extra job like that. Besides, we are all comrades and friends here, right? So no need to be so reserved with us. I don’t want to sound as if I’m speaking for everyone in here, but at least in my opinion, since we are buddies, we are in this together, wouldn’t you agree?」

「Yeah! Exactly what Tanya said! But…… For Tanya to actually say something nice so outright?」」

「Surely it’s going to rain tomorrow.」

「Forget about the rain. It’s going to be a full-on storm.」

「You guys…… Aren’t you getting a little bit TOO ahead of yourselves?」

「…… But yes, I think so, too. It is exactly as you say, Tanya.」

We’re all on the same side here.

So it actually feels really weird for me to be acting all reserved towards the girls like that.

「So, what’s the deal with you lot? What are you whispering all about behind someone else’s back?」

「Yes, actually…… It’s about that mine that you have mentioned. How about you let us investigate the problem with the material shortages?」

「Come again?」

「Honestly speaking, I’m a little bit concerned about that matter myself. I have a feeling that the ore didn’t run out naturally on its own and that there’s something more to it than just that. So why don’t you let us investigate that for you?」

「Fumuh.」

The Owner put his hand to his chin as he thought about it for a moment.

Assuming the same position, he pondered the idea over, and over, and over again……

But then, after a long moment, he finally opened his mouth.

「Oh well, this might actually be fate at work here. All right, I’ll leave the investigation of the mine to you guys.」

「Thank you very much.」

「It’s me who should be thanking you guys. After all, you are willing to investigate the mine for me, even though I have no idea what exactly is going on in there.」

「After all, our Master is a very kind one.」

「But that is exactly what I love so much about Rein.」

「Alright. Now, if it wasn’t too much trouble, would you be so kind as to put the official Personalized Request to the Adventurers’ Guild?」

There is a system called “Personalized Requests” within the Adventurers’ Guild, which is used when you want a specific Adventurer to undertake a particular request.

This way, you can be sure that the Adventurer of your choosing is going to receive the request and receive proper compensation for it.

After all, some people distrust random Adventurers that they have never seen before, and would like to let their trusty Adventurers fulfill their requests.

It is that kind of system that pairs up specific Adventurers to specific clients if need be.

By doing so, they can assign their requests to a trusted Adventurer…….

Incidentally, this same system was employed when we completed Arios’s request.

Arios was reluctant to do this initially, saying something like “I can’t believe it’s going to be public knowledge that a Hero had to rely on the Adventurer’s help,” but an Adventurer can’t accept a request without permission.

Since it’s an absolute rule, I asked them to strictly adhere to it.

「Hmm. I understand. And what is your name?」

「Oh, right, I didn’t introduce myself, come to think of it. I’m sorry. I’m Rein Shroud.」

「I see, Rein, huh……? I’ll remember that name. I’m Gantz Stroff.」

「Nice to meet you, Ganz-san.」

We then shook our hands.

「So, while we are still on the subject of compensation. Is there anything you want?」

「I would like you to make some armor and weapons for us, Gantz-san.」

「Is that what you want? Incidentally, wouldn’t you want some more money? You can never have enough of that, right?」

「No, I’m more interested in the things that you can create for us, Gantz-san.」

「Right. So, you want my creations more than you want my gold, is that right?」

「Is that a problem?」

「No, that’s the best answer possible.」

Ganz then grinned.

Where was the sardonic expression that I saw when I first saw him?

He rolled up his sleeves as if to show off his bulky body that he was certainly proud of, and then a look of confidence bloomed on his face.

「I promise you. I’ll make you the best armor and weapons that you could ever possibly hope for.」

「Yes, I’m counting on it.」

Like that, we had a deal.

I’m really interested in the equipment that Ganz-san puts his soul into.

I also wonder just how many pieces of it we will receive?

I’m really looking forward to it.

「Rein, Rein.」

「Yes? What is it?」

「It’s perfectly alright to look forward to something, but first we have to complete the request properly first, right?」

It seems that Kanade had a full understanding of what I was thinking, and Kanade would say that to me.

「Was it really that obvious?」

「I was.」

「It sure was.」
「It certainly was.」

「You bet it was!」

All of my companions nodded their heads while saying that.

Does that mean that I have to work on my poker face as well?

I can’t help but think about that in all seriousness right now.

「Gantz-san , where exactly is your mine located?」

「It’s not far from here. I’ll give you both a map to the mine and a map of the interior.」

「Thank you.」

「I’ll leave it all to you, then. If there’s a problem in the mine, I want you to find out what it is and take care of it. I’m not myself when I can’t create my weapons and armor…… Yes, that’s right. It’s as if my life was devoid of meaning.」

Although he had an eccentric approach of putting fakes out in the open on display of his shop, and only making armor and weapons for customers he liked personally…….

I couldn’t help it but to think that Gantz-san was not a bad person. And his desire for making weapons and armor was truly sincere.

I’m not an armor maker, but I can understand Ganz-san’s thoughts.

But I want to be of help to Ganz-san.

I genuinely want to be of help to him.

「We will definitely accomplish this request!」
