CHAPTER 40: BATHING PART 2

「Aren’t you two tired at all? Kanade? Tanya?」

「Hmm, hmm. Nope, not at all.」

「That light walk was hardly something that I could call tiring.」

I guess that this was something that should be expected from the members of Cat Spirit Tribe and Dragon Tribe.

It seems that the two of them have excellent physical strength and stamina, as even after all that walking uphill they did not seem to be out of breath at all.

However, that being said they still sweated quite a lot, and they were both patting their clothes as if they were really hot and trying to cool themselves down even a little bit.

「Nyaah…… It’s not like we are tired, but does it really have to be so hot here today? I feel like I’m about to be cooked alive.」

「Yes, I guess that it is pretty hot today, huh? And it’s not like summer is here, either.」

When I looked up at the sky, as if to confirm my words, the sun was shining brightly down upon us all.

The sun was shining so brightly that I couldn’t help but to mutter to myself that it did not really need to work so hard just yet.

「Yes, it definitely is hot today. We need to make sure that we stay properly hydrated at all times. Collapsing from a heat stroke is the last thing that we need right now. Here you go, some water.」

「Oh, thank you~♪」

Saying that, I passed the waterskin to both Kanade and Tanya.

After they both had their fill of water, they passed the waterskin further to Sora and Luna.

「Are you sure you don’t want some as well, Rein?」

「If so, then how about I give you some of my water? You know, directly from my mouth to yours.」

「Luna!!!」

「It was a joke, sister. A joke! No need to be so serious!」

「Thank you, girls, but there’s no need. I just had my fill a while ago.」

But that being said, today was way hotter than I thought it would be.

When it comes to time, I guess it’s about…… What was it…… noon, maybe?

Yes, so that would also mean that not only is today hot, but we were currently in the possibly hottest time of the day.

We took shelter from the sun in the shade of the trees to avoid it as much as possible, but it was still only a temporary measure.

And of course, everyone else tried to move as close to me as possible.

「Unyaah…… It’s really hard to get yourself motivated to do anything when it is so hot outside, nya……」

「Seriously now…… It’s just that…… This heat seep all of the energy out of you…… And makes you lose all interest in anything that you were doing……」

「I don’t want to move, and especially not from this place…… And there is no one here who can convince me to do otherwise……」

「Hey, I have a proposition for all of you: how about we just blow up the sun and be done with it?」

Everyone seemed to be having a really hard time because of all of that heat.

But unfortunately, it was something that couldn’t really be helped.

We thought the weather would be much the same as it was yesterday, so we came with the right equipment for that kind of weather.

But with the temperature that was more characteristic of that in the middle of summer out here, the rest of our trek towards the mine could prove itself to be really harsh.

It would be nice if there was something that we could do to fight this heat. Something that could help all of us freshen up, and maybe wash away that nasty sweat……

「Ah!」

Suddenly, Kanade stood up with a flash of inspiration visible in her eyes.

「Say, say, Rein! How about we go and take a dip in the lake right now!?」

「A dip in the lake?」

「Look, you see that lake over there?　I think it would feel really good if we were to just ump in there!」

「I agree with Kanade.」

「What a great idea!」

「Oh, nice one!」

After hearing that proposition, the eyes of everyone gathered started to twinkle with excitement.

Now, I really hate to be the one to shoot this idea down, but it was something that I would really not recommend.

After all, there could be danger all around us, waiting for us to lower our guard down. Or there could be some dangerous monsters lurking in the lake, ready to jump at whoever would try to dive in it.

If the girls really wanted to take a bath in the lake so badly, I would first like to conduct a survey of the entire area just to make sure that there was nothing dangerous out there waiting to harm us……

But I could also see that the girls simply would not have it and would not wait for me to do so.

…… So, I guess that the only reasonable thing that I can do here is to just play the vanguard and let them have their fun.

「Alright then. You girls just go ahead and cool off in the lake, while I will stay here and keep my eye out for anything dangerous or suspicious.」

「Thanks, Rain! You’re the best!」

And then, as soon as she was done saying those words, Kanade reached out towards her clothes and started undressing on the spot……

「W-Wait a minute, Kanade!? What do you think you’re doing!? Don’t start to undress here! I am still here, you know!?」

「Ah…… I-I’m sorry it’s just that I couldn’t really stand it anymore. Ehehe, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.」

「It’s fine, after all, nothing ended up happening, but…… Kanade, please realize that you are a young girl, and a very pretty one at that. If you keep on doing things like that without thinking, it can cause you and those around you a whole lot of trouble. In more ways than one.」

「Nyah…… Oh my, I got praised by Rein ♪! Hooray!」

「Hey, Rein! What is the meaning of this!? What about me!? What about me!?」

「Hmm? Well, of course, the same goes for you, too, Tanya. You are also really cute and beautiful.」

「I-Is that so……? Fufun, w-well! It’s good that you understand that much! Good for you!」

「W-What about Sora? What do you think about Sora, Rein?」

「Yeah, and what about me!?」

「Of course you two are quite cute and beautiful as well. Do you really need to ask? Actually, what’s wrong, guys? Why are you asking those questions all of a sudden like that?」

「…… Won’t you look at that? This seemed to work out really well in the end. It actually managed to make my heart skip a beat, if I’m going to be completely honest.」

「Y-Yeah, same here. To think that someone would be able to set my heart aflutter so easily and without any effort at all…… Not bad, Rein. Not bad at all.」
