CHAPTER 43: BEAST TAMER VS BEAST TAMER PART 1

We moved carefully through the mine, trying not to make any loud noises or let our footsteps carry forward.

With the help of the map that we have received from Gentz-san, we were able to swiftly proceed towards the center of the mine……

And before long we managed to emerge in a large, open area.

It was a space that was large enough so that you could fit a small sports stadium in it with little problem.

This was probably where the main mining site was located.

There were mining tools lying here and there on the ground, and I could see trolleys for transporting the ore.

「Nyaah…… I can see some really suspicious people standing over there.」

Yes, there were some people in front of us. Five in total, just as Sora and Luna predicted.

Three men.

Two women.

Each and every single one of them was mining some ore.

「Do you think that they are the thieves that we are looking for?」

「Yes, I’m sure. There is no doubt about it.」

I was told by Gantz-san that the Adventurers that he hired to excavate the mine were a party of four, all of them male.

And I have also heard that he hired no other Adventurers to be on rotation duty with the first party.

So the only logical conclusion that could be drawn here was that they were thieves.

「But, but! Why are they even resulting to theft like that?」

「For money? That would be the most logical conclusion here.」

「That’s actually something that is highly debatable. I think that there are benefits from selling the mythril ore on the black market, but at the same time there is also a great risk of the entire operation being exposed. The possible risk doesn’t match the possible return here.」

「Sora’s right. Robbery is a serious crime, after all. Normally, no one would dare to risk their freedom to do something like this for some money, but……」

「But no matter what their reasons for doing this are, there is only one thing we need to do here!」

「Yes, you’re right. There’s only one thing left for us to do here.」

「Beating those chumps into a bloody pulp?」

「No, that’s not it.」

「Are we going to burn the entire mine down, together with this entire operation?」

「No, that’s not it, either.」

Why is it that the members of my party are always so eager to jump straight towards the most radical of solutions, without considering other options first?

Could it be that there was someone out there who made them think that way? Some sort of bad influence?

…… And I would really like to think that this someone was not actually me.

「Kanade, you team up with Sora, and face the two Adventurers. Tanya, you team up with Luna and take care of the other two. As for me, I am going to face that last guy, the one who looks like a leader of this entire group.」

「Understood, nya!」

「I am going to give you a signal, and then we spring right into action. Are you guys ready?」

Everyone gave me a small nod instead of having to say anything.

「Okay then…… Three…… Two…… One…… NOW!!!」

On my command, we all jumped out of the shadows all at once.

「…… Huh? And who the hell are you, people…… GUH!?」

「First to strike♪!」

Kanade was quick to shorten the distance between herself and her target, going on a rampage.

Before the thief was able to even understand what was going on, she sent a mighty kick down his way, one that was powerful enough to send the thief flying in the air.
The man was pushed back with tremendous force and ended up crashing into the mine’s wall.

「Now be a good boy and just stay there! Don’t ever think about getting up!」

「Are you fucking shitting me!? Who the hell are you, you lot!?」

Meanwhile, on the other side of the excavation site, Tanya was waving her tail around like a whip, striking down the thief that was unfortunate enough to be her opponent.

Although the thieves soon snapped out of the initial shock caused by our sudden appearance and drew their own weapons at us, there was no way they could actually damage the dragon’s scales with those kinds of weapons.

Tanya just used her tail dexterously to smash those weapons to pieces and overwhelm the thieves with little to no effort.

「Hey, how about you stop hogging all the fighting to yourself? You know how boring it is, not being able to have my open turn to throw hands?」

「Hogging all the fighting for myself? I don’t think that’s the case here, though? See? There is your chance to prove yourself. One of those guys is getting ready to cast some sort of spell. You can go ahead and interfere with it. This is our fighting strategy here: Sora focuses on supporting Kanade, and Luna focuses on supporting Tanya.」

「Roger that! You’ll see! I am going to take care of this right away! I will show you what I am capable of, Rein! Then, you will have no choice but to praise me for that later!」

After they psyched themselves up, both Sora and Luna gave it their very best to support Kanade and Tanya with their Spirit Tribe magic.

I wasn’t so sure about that initially, but it would seem that their efforts were more than enough to effectively counteract any kind of magic that the enemy was trying to throw our way.

As expected of the members of the Spirit Tribe, I should say.

I guess that it’s a good thing that they can do some serious magic-related work while maintaining the attitude of not caring at all at the same time.

I know that this is a serious situation, but I also think that it’s important to have a relatively good time when it comes to work.

「Seriously! Just who the hell are you people!?」

The leader of the thieves, the one who was confronting me, barked at me while holding his dagger at the ready.

「Would you be able to understand it if I told you that I took on a request from Gantz-san to investigate the mithril shortages from the mine?」

「What the hell did you just say……? A request from that old geezer?」

「Unfortunately for you, we have caught you red-handed while you were stealing his property. The only fate that awaits you now is us taking you into custody and turning you over to the Adventurers’ Guild.」

「And do you seriously think that you can do that?」

「Oh, I think that we most certainly can.」

「You cheeky little shit!」

The man lunged forward, attempting to slash at me with his dagger…… but he was way too slow.

Compared to Arios, this man was way slower and his reflexes were not nearly as sharp. Not to mention that his technique was sloppy and full of openings.
