CHAPTER 43: BEAST TAMER VS BEAST TAMER PART 2

Ironically enough, I think that the fight I had with Arios only helped me to elevate my combat senses to new heights.

So if we compare this man to the Hero, there was hardly any reason for me to struggle against someone of his level.

「Fuh!」

So when the next dagger slash came flying my way, I skilfully ducked right under it and saw to counterattack with my own fist.

A moment later I could definitely feel that my fist managed to connect with the man’s stomach.

As expected, the man stumbled back, unable to hold his stance and position for any longer.

However, I could also feel that there was some strange kind of resilience to the way in which he stumbled back just now.

With my current power level, any normal human out there should be knocked unconscious with a few blows like that.

…… Does that mean that I was unconsciously holding myself back here?

「Just give up and surrender already. If you’re going to behave yourselves and allow us to take you into custody, we promise that no harm is going to happen to you.」

「God damn it…… Are you taking pity on me, you little shit!? That’s the only thing I can’t really stand! When others look down on me! I’m not going to get myself caught and put behind bars until I give that old geezer a run for his money!」

「Huh? And what is that even supposed to mean?」

「You honestly thought that I was going to tell you? Just like that?」

The man then stood up and smiled wryly.

「Hehe…… You really think that we are some random amateurs, huh? Well, too bad! We have expected that someone like you might show up here sooner or later! and we have come fully prepared!」

「What was that!?」

「Come on out!」

With a tremor that was strong enough to shake the earth and walls all around us, a huge shadow appeared from somewhere deeper into the mine.

And eventually, a certain creature appeared right in front of me.

「Behemoth!?」

Behemoth. It’s a monster that is categorized as a B-rank.

It is a monster that looks like a raging bull that has grown many times over its normal size and was clothed in muscles as tough as armor plating all over its body.

It had sharp horns on the side of its head and its mane extended all the way to its back.

Its arms and legs were as thick as a trunk of a large and old tree.

It is said that its tremendous power is so great that it can easily smash through even a small castle gate all on its own.

「Why is such a creature here……!?」

「Hahaha, what!? Are you surprised!? Yes, that’s right! Be amazed! Because that thing is my pet!」

「…… Pet? ……!? No way! Could it be that you have……!?」

「I’m a Beast Tamer, you know? I had a bird watching the perimeter of the mine earlier all the time, but now that you guys have shown up, I switched my contract to this guy, just in case I needed to deploy it into battle. Looks like that was the right thing to do in the end!」

「But it should be impossible for a Beast Tamer to have two contracts working at once. So how could this be? What happened to that Behemoth while you were focusing on your contact with that bird earlier? Don’t tell me you just left it out to rampage freely!?」

「You see, I happened to find her when she was still a little pup, all those years ago. So I took her in and I’ve been raising her ever since. Even if it is not under a contract, it still listens to me to some extent. But the contract allows me for more precise control over her, so when the time comes, I’m able to rely on her for emergency situations like this one!」

A Behemoth tamed by a human is just like a walking weapon of mass destruction.

I never thought I’d have to deal with something like that in my entire Adventurer career……

In many ways, this was completely unexpected.

I never would have thought that a mere mine investigation would turn out to be so nasty.

However, in a certain twisted way, it makes a whole lot of sense.

The man’s uncommon durability is probably thanks to the power he gained from his contract with this Behemoth.

Just like I’m getting increased Strength and Magic Power boosts from my contracts with Kanade and Tanya, this man got the sturdiness and endurance of the Behemoth…….or so it would seem.

「GO!!!」

「Kuh!」

At the man’s signal, the Behemoths rushed forward.

It was massive and powerful, probably strong enough to rip a fully-armored opponent to shreds with relative ease.

There’s no way for me to be able to take on a creature like that head-on and emerge victorious out of it.

So I jumped sideways with all of my strength to evade its charge, but……

「GRUAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!」

The Behemoth pulled his weight to the right and turned sharply all of a sudden.

It then bit at me as if it was not going to let me escape from the path of its charge.

「Why…… You little……!!」

I ran to the very front of the wall and jumped onto it, doing a quick backflip and getting behind the Behemoth’s back.

Avoiding its huge charging body at the last possible moment, I somehow managed to escape to safely for the moment.

The Behemoth lost sight of its target, which was me, and kept its momentum going as it rammed into the wall of the mine at full speed.

The force of impact was so strong that the entire mine shook violently.

It was as if the Behemoth managed to cause an actual earthquake.

For a single monster to be able to cause such damage…… It was frightening to just think about it.

「GUUUUUUHHH……」’

Behemoth slowly pulled its head out of the wall.

Its eyes were all bloodshot with anger.

As expected of a B-rank monster, I should say.

Apparently, even a blow that was so strong did not end up causing that much damage to it.

「Don’t just go on a rampage in a place such as this! Can’t you just keep calm!?」

Even if I tried to run away from it, I’m afraid that this Behemoth would easily catch up to me in no time at all.

But if that’s the case, then I just need to go on the offense instead of playing defensively!

So I ran past Behemoth at full speed.

The side of the head, its neck, and the side of its whole body.

At the same time, I aimed my fists towards its body and smacked a few of its vital points, all in an attempt at taking it out.

Those were the blows that borrowed the power of the Cat Spirit Tribe and every single one of them were with me not holding anything back.

But as expected, if this is the case……..

「GUUUUUUAAAAAAHHHHHH!?!?!?」

「Seriously!?」

The response was only palpable at best.

My attacks didn’t do much damage to it. I’m afraid that the only thing they managed to do was to anger it.

The Behemoth howled in anger and swung its paws at me, as big as large tree’s branches.

No good! It’s an attack I cannot possibly evade!

Behemoth’s huge arm crashed directly into me.

Gosh!　My body was blown up in a straight line with the shock of the Behemoth’s attack.
