Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 44 Part 1
CHAPTER 44: THE DIFFERENCE IN POSITIONS PART 1
「REIN!!!!」
I was blown away and sent flying by the Behemoth’s attack, but fortunately Kanade managed to catch me in mid-air.
「Thanks, Kanade. You really saved me there.」
「Are you okay, Rein? Are you hurt anywhere? Can you still fight?」
「Yeah, it was rough, but I think I’ll manage.」
It was a good thing that right before the Behemoth attacked me I was able to jump backwards a little bit, which helped to lessen the impact of the blow to a certain extent. It wasn’t a whole lot, but it was still better than nothing.
But still, that last attack actually managed to do a fair number on me.
It was rough, but at the very least I could still fight. And besides……
「What about Tanya? And Sora and Luna? Are they alright?」
「They got rid of the other thieves and took them outside of the mine for the time being. We figured out that if we left them here, they would only get in the way. Sora and Luna also said that they would stay behind and guard the prisoners, keep them asleep with the use of magic or something like that.」
「Great. That was a really sound judgment from all of you. No matter what happens, the thieves must be alive. Otherwise that won’t be able to be put to trial and answer for all of their crimes.」
「As for me, I decided to come back and help you out, Rein~♪. I’m sure that the two of us can take that thing down no problem!」
「No, we are not going to do that. Kanade, I need you to go past that Behemoth and incapacitate that man.」
「Huh? But why? Don’t you want to fight together with me, Rein?」
「No, it’s nothing like that. You see, that Behemoth is being controlled by that man over there. He’s a Beast Tamer that managed to tame it. It’s better to neutralize that man, as this will surely lessen the battle potential of the Behemoth. Also, we don’t want him to get away, using the fight and the commotion as a distraction.」
「Alright! Understood!」
Honestly speaking, it would be so much better to have Kanade by my side here so that we could take down the Behemoth together……
But since I had no idea how this battle was going to turn out, I preferred to go for the safer option of sending Kanade away somewhere else, rather than stay here and be at risk of getting injured or worse. If there is someone who needs to shoulder that risk, it should be me alone.
Besides, I knew that against a monster like that, the odds would be stacked heavily against us.
So, fighting this monster is something that I must absolutely do on my own, without getting others involved.
That being said…… There was a certain thing I wanted to try.
And as it turns out, I was the only one who could do it.
「Are you finally done with that little strategy meeting of yours?」
The man laughed at us in a mocking manner.
Yes, I do believe that he had every right to feel overconfident here. After all, he believed that he now held a huge advantage over us, something that his Behemoth trump card was sure to give him.
But no need to worry. We are going to see who is going to be laughing in the end.
In just a moment, I am going to take all that advantage away from you and rub it in your face.
「You know, as much as I would like to just let you guys go, I cannot allow you to expose our little mining operation here to the authorities. So I guess I will just have to kill you right here and right now.」
「That was a typical villain dialogue if I have ever heard one.」
「Yeah! A cliche villain line! And a third-rate villain at best!」
「You little shits…… You are going to regret not knowing when to keep those mouths of yours shut! GO!!!」
At the man’s signal, the Behemoth roared loudly and started moving once more.
I jumped to the left and Kanade jumped to the right in order to avoid its charge.
Fortunately, the Behemoth apparently targeted me exclusively, as I had originally planned.
It didn’t even look at Kanade, but chased blindly after me instead.
But I must admit, for a creature with such a huge body, it was incredibly fast and agile, able to make sharp turns with relative ease.
If we are to be facing more opponents like this in the future, I must make sure to research such monsters some more once this thing is all over with. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
「Well, I guess things like that are only expected from a monster of the B-Rank!」
For the time being, it would be best for us to focus on avoiding its incoming attacks.
As the Behemoth continued to attack us, I made sure to memorize its attack patterns as they were repeatedly burning themselves into my eyes, only to be drilled into my head right afterwards.
Because it doesn’t have the ability to think like a person, the Behemoth’s attack patterns are rather simple.
Once I was able to properly memorize them all……
「They will be no problem at all…… This is what I mean by that!」
Now, I won’t be nearly as vain as to say that I have seen through all of its attack patterns, but I am pretty sure that I have more or less eighty percent of them committed to my memory.
I ran across the mine, kicked the wall to get some air time, and came down while delivering some blows to the Behemoth’s body here and there.
All the while, I also made sure to avoid the monster’s attacks in a myriad of different ways in order to confuse it.
As far as the close quarters combat is concerned, I don’t think that the Behemoth’s attacks are going to be able to hit me anymore.
It was basically the same thing that I did when I was fighting against Arios, but I do believe that I am rather adept at assessing my opponent’s movements and strategies mid-fight.
After all, observing the target is an essential skill for a Beast Tamer to have.
Strength, Speed, Intelligence…… By being able to identify all possible statistics and variants of your opponent, the Beast Tamer can master his craft and gain the ability to tame any possible target that he sets his eyes upon.
It is for this very reason that I was given rigorous and special training ever since I was a small child. All so that I would be able to grasp everything that was to my targets.
「Fuh! Hah!」
For a while, I was able to focus on doing just that: avoiding the Behemoth’s attacks and striking with a counterattack of my own whenever there was an opening ready for me to explore.
