CHAPTER 44: THE DIFFERENCE IN POSITIONS PART 2

But even so, even though all of my attacks were really powerful and were all surely connecting with the Behemoth’s body, they seemed to have very little effect on it.

Actually, every time I would deliver a blow, it would feel as if I was trying to punch through a thick layer of elastic rubber, and there was no visual sign of any sort of damage actually coming through.

「Well then, if physical attacks aren’t working…… Then how about this!? ‘Fireball’!!」

I said that, but since we are still inside of a mine, there is always a risk of my fireballs causing some dust explosions.

So in order to avoid that happening, I decided to release my Magic Power at somehow decreased output.

But in order to compensate for lessened power, I had to make sure that my aim would be as precise as it could possibly be.

Then, in the next moment, the Fireball managed to hit the Behemoth straight to the head.

「GYAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!」

A loud scream echoed across the entire mine as the Behemoth’s massive body reared up from the damage caused by the Fireball attack.

Great, magic attacks seem to be working on it…… However,

「GURURURURU……!!!!!!!!!」

It was still not nearly enough to bring the beast down for good.

Even though my magic attacks have been strengthened thanks to the contract I made with Tanya, as expected, is it too much to hope that I would be able to bring the Brank monster down with a single shot of Beginner-level magic?

But be that as it may, it’s only a B-rank monster. Nothing more powerful than that.

I’m sure that if I were to give it everything that I have, I might be able to somehow bring it down for good, but……

But since this is a really tight close space that we are talking about here, there is also a risk of Kanade and I being caught in the blast as well.

「Rein! I managed to catch the guy!」

It was at this dire time that some good news finally came our way.

I glanced over and saw Kanade apprehending the other Beast Tamer.

「Great job, Kanade! Now, can you get him to force that monster to stop rampaging!?」

「Hmm, hmm…… Nyaah! It’s impossible, nya! He says that he is never going to do it, even if it gets him killed! Or something like that!」

「Yeah, I figured that much.」

Oh well, I guess that means I have to resolve to Plan B, then.

Which is basically me having to defeat the Behemoth all by myself.

「GURURURURURUAAHHH!!!!!!!!!」

The Behemoth seemed to be even more agitated than ever before.

It was most probably due to the fact that its Tamer was now apprehended, so the monster went out of control without anyone actually able to properly control it.

So it was currently in what us Beast Tamers call a ‘Berserk’ state.

In this situation, there’s no telling what any monster might actually do.

So if we do not want to be in some serious trouble, we need to bring this fight to a close as soon as possible!

「Rein! Are you okay? I knew it, I should really come join you and then we can take this jerk down together……」

「No, there’s no need! I’m fine! I can handle this thing on my own!」

I say this with the utmost certainty.

It was not a bluff, and it was not a way for me to just reassure Kanade in a dire situation.

People have told me that my Beast Tamer talent is far superior than anyone else’s

They told me that I have more power than they have ever seen anywhere else.

And so, I have no other choice but to take their word for it and believe in them!

「GURUAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!」

Behemoth then rushed at me, its eyes bloodshot with anger.

On the other hand, I didn’t do anything…… I just spoke a single sentence.

「STOP RIGHT THERE!」

The words were unleashed in that moment, as if I was unsheathing a blade, carrying Magic Power with every sound.

They were so intense that even the air itself trembled from their intensity.

「…… Gurugh.」

The Behemoth…… Just stopped in its tracks.

Following my words, it stopped right in front of me.

「’Nya, nya……..?」

「What…… What…… What happened?　Why are you listening to that kid all of a sudden!? Damn it! Move your ass! Kill him! Devour him whole!!!」

The man kept on shouting, but there was no sign of the Behemoth following his orders.

None whatsoever.

「What happened…… Are you seriously asking this question right now? And what’s with that face that you are making?」

「You asshole……! What…… What have you done!?」

「What? Isn’t it obvious? I got this monster under my control. Or, to say in terms that you will be able to understand, I tamed it.」

「W-What do you mean……?」

It’s simple, really.

All I did here was to tame the Behemoth again and override its previous contract.

Now this thing takes precedence to my orders over anyone else’s.

If it was a wild and feral monster, it would have been impossible for me to tame it.

I mean, I’ve learned the skills of a Monster Tamer in the past, but they were far from being perfect.

I can tame a small fry monster like a Slime, but taming a powerful individual like a Behemoth is pretty much impossible for me at my current level.

However, this thing had been accustomed to human control for a while now.

It had been used by ‘normal’ Beast Tamer in the past.

Then shouldn’t I be able to tame it, overriding its contract?

I figured that if I had the strength to do what everyone else said I did, it was certainly possible.

I wasn’t sure of it, though, so I didn’t try it until the last moment, as a sort of last resort.

「Rein, we leave our eyes off of you for a moment, and here you go, doing something utterly outrageous again…… Stealing contracts from other Beast Tamer, ugh! Who in their right mind does that!? Unyaaah, I feel like my sense of reason and common sense are becoming more and more disconnected the longer I am with you……」

「No way! There is no way in hell that something like that is actually possible! There is just no way in hell that this is real! God fucking damn it, you should listen to my orders!　Mine and mine alone! I’m your Master, you stupid animal! Remember!?」

「Nyah? You say that it’s impossible? But you are so much weaker than Rein is, you know?」

「Are you shitting me!? I’m a better Beast Tamer than anyone else!　I can even tame Behemoths! And who does that!? And yet…… And yet this shitty brat…… Do you just expect me to sit down and accept that!?」

「Then, how do you possibly explain the scene in front of you?」

「Ngh……」

「Face it already. Rein is far better than you.」

「Damn it! God fucking damn it! Damn it all to hell! I won’t accept this! This kid is supposed to be better than me when it comes to Beast Taming!? I inferior to him?　You’ve got to be kidding me!　Kill him! Rip him to shreds! Devour him right now!」

「GRUH, GUUUOOOAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!」

Behemoth barked in response to the man struggling to regain his control over it.

It was going to be difficult to keep him in custody forever like this.

Apparently, he hadn’t reached the stage where he could give full effect to his orders onto the creatures that he tamed.

That being said, I am also immature as well.

But………

「…… It’s too late now. ‘Fireball’!!!」

Before the Behemoth could make a move, I unleashed my magic towards its mouth.

The fireball was sucked into the Behemoth’s mouth…………….and then it exploded inside of its body.

With a powerful twitch, the Behemoth’s entire body convulsed.

Next, its giant body fell to the ground……..

Death quickly overcame it and its body turned into a Magic Stone.

「N-No way…… My…… My precious…… trump card……」

「Do you still want to continue?」

「……………」

The man only shook his head without saying a single word.

And thus, our victory was confirmed.
