Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 45 Part 1

CHAPTER 45: REQUEST COMPLETED PART 1

It turned out that all of the thieves had one thing in common:

They had all purchased their weapons or armor from Gantz-san’s shop at some point
.
Moreover, since none of them were deemed worthy of his creations, Gantz-san sold them fake items, like he did to that other customer right in front of our very eyes.

When the other Adventurers pointed this out to them, the thieves who knew the truth thought of a way in which they could get back at Gantz-san.

Simply beating him up was apparently not going to cut it for those guys. They wanted something more for their revenge.

They wanted to break Gantz-san’s pride, to make him experience the same kind of mockery and humiliation that they had to go through.

Thinking so, the thieves decided to steal the Mithril from the mining site and make it impossible for Gantz-san to make his beloved weapons and armor ever again.

They wanted to take away from him what was the most important for any craftsman out there. His pride. His very soul.

That was the kind of revenge that the thieves had in their minds.

At the very least, that was the statement that all of them made after we went back to town with them and handed them over to the Adventurers’ Guild.

As for today, we went to Gantz-san’s place to tell him what happened and report the completion of his request.

「I see…… Is that so…… Is that how it is……?」

Gantz-san looked really depressed.

It was no wonder.

This entire ordeal was directly caused by his overly high pride as a craftsman.

He did not have the same energy as when we spoke before, and he looked about a few years older than his actual age.

「Perhaps I might have been way too conceited…… Believing that the armors and weapons that I make are the best out there, and looking down on ordinary people as someone who was not even worthy of using them…… No matter who the customer is, making armor and weapons is what a craftsman does. And I used to think that I was putting my entire heart into making them. And yet, to judge my customers as stupid and to cut corners like that…… Perhaps I am the greatest fool in this entire story.」

「Yes, that might actually be so.」

「Hey, that was uncalled for.」

「Rein?」

Kanade and Tanya were visually flustered, but I was not going to do anything here, and especially I wasn’t going to rub salt in Gantz-san’s wounds.

「Gantz-san, you basically admit that you were the one who was in the wrong here, right?」

「Yes, boy. That’s exactly right. I was in the wrong here. It was all my fault.」

「Then you’d best start on changing that mindset of yours right away.」
.
「Say what now?」

「Next time, why don’t you just keep on doing what you do best, creating the greatest weapons and armor, with no strings attached? Sure, you’ve made a mistake here, but it’s not like that mistake of yours was irrevocable, right? So it is not too late to start working on fixing that mistake, and redeeming yourself. How does that sound?」

「…… If only it was as easy as you are making it sound, kid.」
.
「I mean, you are the type of a man who can properly admit that he was wrong. At least that’s what I think. So the chance for you is still out there.」

「…… Hahaha!」

Ganz-san laughed vigorously and regained his energy that we could see in his eyes a few days ago.

Yes, it was the same light of passion and determination as the one I saw last time when we came to visit his workshop.

It was the look of a passionate and enthusiastic craftsman, ready to do what he does best.

「To hear words like that from a little boy who hasn’t even lived half of my life…… I won’t lie, that kinda stings.」

「Are you feeling displeased when you hear words like that?」

「No, it’s actually the opposite. It feels really nice. I couldn’t be happier right now even if I wanted to.」

「You’re looking good, old man.」

「Does that make this entire thing labeled as “Happily Ever After”?」

「Honestly, I feel like those words of yours were just the right kind of a wake up call that I needed to hear right now.」

「Good. Because I couldn’t ask you to make some equipment for me if you were asleep, you know.」

「Yes, I guess that you’re right.」

Gantz-san chuckled slightly.

I chuckled along with him..

「Yes! That’s right! I can’t just keep worrying about the past like that. What matters the most is what happens right here and right now! So from now on, I’m going to put my soul into each and every single one of my creations!」

「Yes! Now that’s the spirit! I would also like for you to use that newly found enthusiasm of yours to do a good job when you are going to be working on weapons and armor for us.」

「Oh, you can count on me to do just that!」

Gantz-san thumped his chest with a loud *thud*.

Right about now he looked many times more reliable than ever before.

「As promised, I shall make you the best equipment I can forge! And now that we’ve got the materials back, I can get on to do just that right away! Rain, what kind of equipment do you seek?」

「I was actually hoping for you to make a dagger for me? Also, I would like you to forge a small gauntlet for me.」

「…… Hm? Yes, dagger is something I can do right away, but why the gauntlet? If you want some armor, I can forge you a mighty breastplate, a full set of plate armor, whatever you want!」

「Normal armor is something I can take care of myself. But more importantly, I want you to make me a special kind of gauntlet, so to speak. I was actually hoping that you could help me to realize some of the ideas that I’ve had inside of my mind for a long time now. You see, what I want is……

I then proceeded to tell Gantz-san about a certain ‘idea’ I have been thinking about for the longest time now.

After he heard me out, Gantz-san smiled mischievously, like a small child plotting to pull the greatest prank ever.

「Hmmm, yes, that sounds really interesting.」

「I know, right?」

「But let me warn you here, it’s going to take some time to put it all together. Is that okay with you?」

「Yes, that won’t be a problem. We have been taking quite a lot of requests and commissions as of late, so for the time being I figured that we could all use a little break.」

「Yes! A time off!」

「Since it has come to this, I would like to go and eat something really tasty.」

Kanade and Tanya were the first ones to respond to the idea of us taking some time off.
