CHAPTER 48: TRUST PART 1

After we finished eating, I continued my stroll around town alongside Sora and Luna.

We came through the main street and came to a section of the town that was lined with all kinds of different shops.

「Ooohhh —-!!!」

This was the first human city that both of them had visited in two hundred years.

Everything that they were seeing seemed new and fresh to them, and Luna’s gaze especially darted all over the place, taking in all of the different sights.

「Well I must say, this isn’t half bad. Not half bad at all.」’

Sora was also scurrying around in a similar fashion, though she was not frolicking nearly as much as her twin sister.

Come to think about it, both of them were like this ever since the morning when we left the Adventurers’ Guild building.

And seeing them act like that actually put a smile on my face for some inexplicable reason.

I feel like I was walking around with a pair of two little kids.

However, if they knew I was thinking about that, they would probably be really mad at me.

So I must make extra sure that they will never find out that I thought that. Yes, that would be for the best.

「By the way, Rein. There’s something that’s been bothering me for quite a while now.」

「…… Hm? Yeah? What is it?」

「You signed a contract with both Kanade and Tanya the moment you tamed them, right?」

「Yes, that’s right.」

「So, signing a contract with Kanade has enhanced your physical abilities. And signing a contract with Tanya has enhanced your Magic Power. Am I right?」

「Yes, that’s right. But why……?」

「And now you managed to sign a contract with both Sora and I!」

…… Ahh, I see.

I was kind of able to understand what Luna was trying to say here.

「In other words, just what kind of abilities would you have gained by signing a contract with not one member of the Spirit Tribe, but two!? That’s what I’m talking about!」

What I wanted to say out loud was said by Sora instead.

「Umu, umu! Yes, that’s right! That is exactly it! I’m curious to see just what kind of power Rein has gained by signing a contract with both of us!」

「Yes, now that you mention it……」

I’m actually kind of interested in that myself.

According to Kanade, if you sign a contract with a race above a certain level, you get the power of the race that you are currently having a contract with.

Sora and Luna are the members of the Ultimate Species as well, the Spirit Tribe, so there is no doubt that I must have gotten some sort of power from them the moment we have signed up the contract.

It’s just that…… I don’t really think that there was any change inside of me. None at all.

But that being said, both in Kanade’s case and Tanya’s case, it wasn’t until the actual battle situation that I was able to notice the power that was bestowed upon me.

So if we were to follow that pattern…… What exactly is changing inside of me right now and how is it changing me?

It was really hard for me to tell.

「Did you notice any changes about you, Rein?」

「I don’t know, it’s hard for me to say…… No, not really. As far as I’m concerned, I’m just the same as I was before.」

「Did you perhaps notice anything unusual during the last battle in the mine?」

「No, I don’t really think so……」

I replied to them, thinking back to the battle in the mine that we recently had.

My physical abilities were pretty much unchanged.

My Magic Power…… Yes, that probably did not change all that much, either.

There was the fact that I was able to properly control the amount of Magic Power I was putting in my Fireballs, but that was about it.

But if my Magic Power had increased any further due to the contract with the Spirit Tribe twins, it would have probably increased so much that I would no longer be even able to control it. And that would be all kinds of problematic.

Since I only recently started to learn about controlling my own Magic Power, it was very likely that if I tried to use it in an actual battle, it would run berserk and I would end up destroying not only myself, but most probably everyone and everything around me as well.

But since that hadn’t happened, it meant that my Magic Power hadn’t risen. And I was actually really thankful for that.

「Hmm, fumuh? Yeah, that’s strange. Like, really strange.」

Hearing my honest thoughts, Luna looked rather doubtful.

「We the Spirit Tribe are the race that excels in Magical Power. I thought for sure that if you managed to tame us, that your own Magic Power would increase even further, but I see that it is not the case here……」

「Maybe instead of raw Magic Power, what increased is the amount of spells that you can now use? For example, maybe you can use all the spells and magic that Sora and I can use? That’s always a possibility.」

「Oh, yes, I see!　Yes, that is always a possibility! Alright, Rein! Let’s test it out right away! For the time being, try to unleash some of the Ultimate Magic on this town!」

「First of all, there is no way that I would just go and unleash some magic inside of the city’s limits. Think about the possible destruction and chaos it could cause. And secondly…… Ultimate Magic? What is that?」

「You do know that Magic is categorized by levels, don’t you? When it comes to levels we have the Beginner level, Intermediate level and Advanced level. Those are the three basic levels that humans can achieve, right? I’m pretty sure that Kanade must have mentioned something like that to you at some point.」

「Yeah, now that you mention it, I think that you’re right.」

「While this is true, it is also true that there are two more levels to magic beside those three. And those two levels far exceed the highest tier of spells that humans can achieve on their own. And beyond even that, there is a secret tier of spells that only our Spirit Tribe can use, the Ultimate Magic. Well, I mean…… We haven’t reached that level quite yet, so we can’t actually use it, but we are getting there!」

Yes, I know about the Super-Class magic, the one above the Advanced magic.

It’s the magic said to have been used by the Hero in fairy tales and other stories like that.

Not long ago, I was only aware of it as the content of a mere fairy tale, but…….

It seems that Tanya used something similar to that the last time we clashed with Arios and his group, and I learned that it was a real type of magic that existed in the real world, not only being limited to the world of fairy tales.
