Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 48 Part 2
And to think that there exists a magic that only the members of the Spirit Tribe can handle……
Once again, I realized that the Ultimate Species are called that way for a reason, and that it is not only a mere figure of speech.
「But Ultimate Magic, huh? I mean, forget about that one, I cannot even use Advanced Magic. So there is hardly any reason for me to try to use the one that is a tier higher than that.」
「Sure, but, I mean, isn’t it too soon to just give up? You’ll never know if you can actually use it unless you go out of your way to try and find out. Wouldn’t you agree?」
「Surely you understand what I’m talking about here, right? When it comes to the magic I can use, I always have to visualize the structural formula of the spell inside of my mind, but at the current moment I can’t think of any new formula like that. The only three magic structural formulas that come to my mind are those of ‘Fireball’, ‘Heal’ and ‘Boost’. That’s about it.」
「Hmm. Well, if that’s the case, it doesn’t sound like you have learned any new magic recently.」
.
「So what kind of power did you gain by signing a contract with us? Could it be that you didn’t get anything out of it, by any chance?」
「If that was really the case here, then I really don’t like that. It’s just like…… as if we were the only ones who were actually gaining from this exchange. And that doesn’t seem fair to me.」
「A good-for-nothing familiars who only take from their Master without actually giving anything in return, even though they have a legitimate contract going on…… Are the two of us going to be seriously labeled as such?」
「Ugh, Sister Dearest…… Now that you have actually put our concerns into words, it makes me feel a whole lot worse. Rein! Help us out here, why don’t you!? Think! There has to be something! Anything!」
「And I keep on telling you, I don’t think that there is!」
I then placed my hands on top of their hair and patted them on the heads in an attempt at calming both of them down for the time being.
「Fuah!?」
「Hyauh.」.
I patted their heads lightly and they both spilled out a strange voice from their mouths as their reactions became really meek and mellow.
「Even if I do not gain anything from signing a contract with the two of you, that doesn’t change the fact that the two of you are my precious companions, just as Kanade and Tanya are. And I am never going to judge you solely on the basis of how much I can gain from having you by my side. I can promise you that.」
「…… Now this is quite troubling.」
「Hm? And why is that?」
「Because if you keep telling us things like that, Sora is going to be so embarrassed that she won’t be able to think straight anymore.」
「U-Umu. M-Me too. I have a really bad feeling about this…… Y-Yeah, I knew it…… Look what you’ve done, Rein! Now I am so embarrassed that I can’t even look you straight in the eyes anymore!」
They both squirmed uncomfortably in place, their cheeks slightly stained with deep red color.
I mean, I would understand if Sora was the only one to react in such a way, but even Luna was acting in the same way as her twin sister.
It was hard for me to actually imagine her doing something like that thanks to her usual crude demeanor, but maybe Luna is also a very innocent person deep down inside of her heart?
「Hey, Rein? Can I ask you a question? And please, don’t try to dodge it or change the subject. Why do you trust the two of us so much? I mean, we have only just joined your party. And you were able to witness our battle and cooperation potential in only one battle so far. And that battle was also really half-hearted, with us leaving the battlefield after we managed to secure those thieves and take them prisoner. So why do you trust both of us so much, even though we hardly gave you a reason to do so? Please don’t get me wrong for saying this, but aren’t you a little bit too fast with bestowing your trust onto complete strangers like the two of us?」
「Yes, actually, what Luna said just now has been weighing heavily on my mind as well. Why do you trust us so much, Rein?」
「Ah…… Oh yeah, that’s right. I guess that the two of you can’t really help it but to wonder about that, huh?」
And honestly speaking, both of them were pretty much right in what they said to me just now.
After all, trust is a bond that cannot be built all that easily over the course of one night.
It takes a whole lot of hard work and a lot of time and effort to build it up, and only then a bond of trust can be created.
Trust is not built up over the course of a single night, and if you think that it is, then that bond is certainly not trust. It’s nothing more but a fake.
I am well aware of that fact, but still……
Still, I called both Sora and Luna my precious companions without a second thought.
It might have been wrong on my account, but I really wanted to think of them as such: as my precious companions who I could trust with my life.
「Do you happen to remember the story of me getting kicked out of the Hero’s Party that I told you about?」
It all happened on our way back to the city after we managed to successfully capture the Lost Forest.
I have talked to both of them about this topic to sort of explain what brought us to the Lost Forest in the first place. We were owing them at least that much of an explanation.
「Yes, I do remember that. You mean those stupid dumbasses who said that you are useless and they banished you from their party for that reason alone? Also, that arrogant person that we met at the inn at that time was the Hero, right? And those others were the members of this Party?」
「What a bunch of stupid and incompetent people they are. If I were to summarize them somehow, it would have to be said that they seem like the amalgamation of everything that is wrong with humanity, and stuffed into a small, compressed package.」
As expected from the Spirit Tribe twins, their words were really harsh.
But at the same time, they were saying such harsh words mostly because they must have felt sorry for me.
