Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5: HERB COLLECTION

The man who got involved with us apparently has been behaving rather rudely on a daily basis, and it seems that even the Guild was nearing a point where they couldn’t quite handle it anymore.

So it was because of that fact that we were let off the hook without any consequences for the commotion that the man created with his challenge and subsequent defeat.

In fact, the Receptionist thanked me for a job well done.

Is it really okay for her to be doing something like this? Personally, I don’t think it is, but……

Oh well, as long as this was not going to become a major problem for us, then I was willing to just leave it at that and move on.

After that, we left the Guild with the picked up request to collect some medicinal herbs.

「Say, Rein, Rein! Why are we collecting medicinal herbs in the first place? Aren’t there any requests for dragon slaying or getting a legendary sword out of a dungeon or something like that?」

「Maybe there are, but there’s just now way that I could get myself a high-ranking quest like that right off the bat. I mean, I am still only an F-rank Adventurer.」

「Nyah?」

「What I mean by that is…… Well, to make sure that the new Adventurers don’t get reckless with their quests and adventures, they all start at the bottom of the ladder, at the F rank. At first, you can only take simple requests that are not all that dangerous or complicated to accomplish. Then, as you steadily complete the requests and accumulate the number of completed requests behind your belt, your rank will increase accordingly and you’ll be able to receive requests that have a high risk but a high reward to them.」

「Being an Adventurer sounds like a whole lot of trouble with all that rules and regulations.」

「Well, it’s something that actually cannot be helped. If you wouldn’t have implemented a system like that, there would be a whole lot of Adventurers who would be biting more than they can chew.」

「But I’m sure that if it is you, Rein, you could easily handle a much, much higher quest without issues!」

「Well, certainly, now that I have established a contract with you, Kanade, I have the power that could make that a possibility, but…… That doesn’t change the fact that I am still an amateour Adventurer. I need to watch my proverbial feet so that I won’t trip somewhere alongside the way. To prevent that from happening, I need to gain experience by completing a whole lot of different requests that there are. You can never be too careful about stuff like that.」

「Ohh! I see! Now I get it! Rein is a true hard worker, huh? Well then, I guess I will do my best, too!」

「Yeah, let’s give it our best, together!」

「Sure thing~♪!」

Just like that we exited the city and moved onto the plains.

This is where we’re going to gather our medicinal herbs for today.

「By the way……」

「Nyah?」

「Are you really okay with coming with me here like this, Kanade? I know that we have a contract going on, but don’t you have things that you yourself would like to do around town?」

「Hmm, no, not particularly.」

「Really? Then, how did you end up here in the first place?」

「I was traveling, you see……♪ We the Cat Spirit Tribe are a relatively small community, so we are living our lives quietly in the mountains, but I thought that this kind of life was so boring. That is why I decided to go on a journey! And that’s how I managed to meet you, Rein♪」

「So, you just happened to meet me while you were out traveling this whole wide world? That’s actually amazing, in more ways than one.」

「Sounds like fate to me♪」

「Well, it might actually be so.」

I feel like something inside of me has changed ever since I happened to meet Kanade.

I just met her, but I feel like this bright smile of hers has saved me, in more ways than one.

So maybe it really was fate that brought us together after all.

「Alright then! Let’s do our best to collect some of those medicinal herbs!」

「Wait, wait, wait! You can’t just run off on your own like that!」

「Nyan!」

I grabbed Kanade by the neck and made her stop in her tracks as she was about to run off on her own.

「Uhh…… What is it?」

「You don’t possibly think that you can find those herbs just by randomly looking all over the place, do you?」

「But! I feel like the only way to get those herbs is to start looking around for them right away and from the scratch, right!?」

「You can leave that part to me, no problem. You see, there is a certain search method that only a Beast Tamer can use for something like that.」.

I say and then I start looking around the area.

They surely are somewhere around here. On a grassy plain like this one, you only need to look for it and it is bound to show up sooner or…… Alright! Found it!.

「A rabbit?」

「Yes, that’s right. First, I am going to make a temporary contract with this little fella……」

Saying that, I walk up to the rabbit I found and hold my palm up to it.

A temporary contract is a simplified version of a regular contract.

It can only be used for a short period of time, but it’s an easy contract to sign, even for freshly starting Beast Tamers.

「Okay, that’s it. The contract is now completed.」

「So, what are you going to do now?」

Kanade looked at me with a twinkle in her eyes, as if that temporary contract was of great interest to her.

「For starters, I would like for him to gather more of his kin in here.」’

I asked the rabbit to gather his friends and bring them here.

Soon after that, about thirty rabbits came running here and gathered.

「Ooh! It’s like fluffy heaven in here ♪!」

「Now, I am going to establish a temporary contract with all of those guys.」

「Huh?」

Even though it’s only a tentative contract, it would be a hassle if I had to do this one by one, so it’s best if I do it all together like this.

…….. Alright! That takes care of that!

「Okay. Now, you guys. I would like for you to go look around the fields for some medicinal herbs and bring them back to me. But that being said, watch out for traps or obvious baits so that you won’t get eaten by accident, alright?」

「「「Kyuii!!!」」」

The rabbits all chirped in unison and scattered in different directions.

「And just like that, as you can see, by Taming multiple animals at once, we can easily collect medicinal herbs in no time at all.」

「……………」

I don’t know why, but Kanade looked stunned for some reason.

「Hm? What’s wrong?」

「W-What is going on here……?」

「Hm? What do you mean?」

「I’ve never heard of taming more than one animal at once……! Even though they might be small animals…… But there are thirty something of them……!! It’s simply unheard of……!」

「R-Really now?」

「Yes, really! That’s not something a normal Beast Tamer should be able to do! I don’t know much about temporary contracts but they’re usually limited to one per person, right?　Since you’re using me already, Rein, you shouldn’t be able to tame anymore creatures…… So how? How are you even able to do that?」

The current situation seemed to be so unbelievable for Kanade that there were currently many question marks floating above her head.

Is that really something so incredible and surprising?
This much should only be natural for a Beast Tamer, right?

「Oh, here they come.」

As we were talking, the rabbits came back with herbs in their mouths.

They then left the herbs at my feet.

「Hmm, I think that we can still use some more…… Okay, you guys! One more round, if you’d please!」

「「「Kyuiii!!!」」」

The rabbits scattered in all directions again.

「Oh wow, that’s amazing…… For them to be able to follow such detailed orders properly…… Finding the medicinal herbs, collecting them and returning without making them useless…… Such a complicated order, there is no way a small animal like that would be able to carry it out so perfectly…… Huh? B-But then…… What does that even mean……???」

「Is that really such a surprising thing?」

「Yes! Yes it is! You might think nothing of it, but what you are doing is actually quite remarkable, Rein!」

「I mean, even if you say that to me……」’

For the Beast Tamer, this is what it means to tame an animal.

It’s an obvious thing, so there’s no need to think of it as something exceptional, now is there?

…… Right?

The only other Beast Tamers I know of is ‘that person’, so I’m a bit at a loss for words when it comes to things such as norms and standards, but……

No, there’s no way. There is no way that I could be exceptional in any sense of the word.

Something like this should be normal for all Beast Tamers.

「I know that you are a member of the Cat Spirit Tribe, Kanade, and that surely your knowledge must be great, but surely there are also many other things that you do not know? You might think that something like this is special, but for Beast Tamers this might actually be something common and normal.」

「No! I just know it! Something like this should be impossible, nyaaaaaa!!!」

「Uwah!」

「Don’t you find it strange as well, Rein? There is absolutely no way that a normal Beast Tamer would be able to do something like this!」

「You can say that again, but I suppose that for a Beast Tamer such as myself, that’s just how things are supposed to be, you know?」

「Uuuhhh…… W-Well, I guess? Besides, you are not the kind of person who would lie to someone, Rein. And I see no reason for you to actually want to deceive me…… And I can clearly see that you are not enhancing your abilities with some strange substances, either…… But that being said, your talents are not simply great. They are amazing! No, not even that! I don’t even think that the term ‘extraordinary talent’ can even cut it here……?」

I think that this might actually be quite an exaggeration, but……

I’m afraid that if I say that here, it might cause Kanade to come up with some new retort.

So for the time being I decided to keep quiet. At the very least, until Kanade calms down.
