CHAPTER 50: RETREAT PART 1

「Tch.」

I clicked my tongue as the soldiers slashed at me from front and back and left and right all at the same time.

As expected, this is going to be tough.

Yes, this is going to be tough, but that doesn’t change the fact that I need to protect Sora and Luna, no matter what!

「You bastard!」

So first of all, I swept the soldier charging straight at me from his feet.

Once they fell to the ground, I stepped all over their arms and legs in order to crush their bones a little and make them unable to move and act for the time being.

Continuing on, I moved on to deal with the soldiers who were attacking me from the left and right sides at the same time.

I also grabbed Sora and Luna by their hands, pulling them closer to myself and taking them into a tight hug.

With both Sora and Luna still in my arms, I kicked the soldiers away with one of my legs, paying close attention to my surroundings at all times.

As if hit by a giant hammer, the soldiers’ bodies were blown backwards in a wide spread.

Finally, I turned to face the three soldiers who were closing in on us from behind our backs.

I let go of Sora and Luna, giving them a look to stand back.

Now, instead of charging straight at the soldiers, I turned around and lifted the bench that was placed close to me, and threw it right at them.

This action seemed to be completely unexpected to them, and the soldiers couldn’t do anything to avoid it, and they just accepted the bench throw head on without even trying to resist or avoid it, and fell to the ground all at once.

「T-This kid…… Is he a monster or what……!?」

Being given the signal from their comrades, the soldiers in the back of the formation released the military dogs from their leashes.

Baring their long and sharp canine teeth, the military dogs barked and growled in an intimidating manner.

At the same time, they broke into a run and went right towards me at a breakneck speed……

「STOP RIGHT THERE!!!」

「WHAT!?」

But as long as my opponents are beasts and the like, then I am going to be right in my own element.

So I mustered some of my Magic Power and infused my words with it, ordering the military dogs to stop in their tracks at once.

「W-Wha!? Hey, what the hell is going on here!? Come on, move! Why the hell did you stop!?」

「I told you all to go and get him! Move your asses! What’s going on!? Why won’t you listen to your orders!?」

All of a sudden, the moment the military dogs stopped listening to the orders from the soldiers, it sent them into a state of both confusion and panic.

But no matter how much they would try to order them around or yell at them, it would be pointless.

Because for a Beast Tamer such as myself, taming a dog, no matter what kind, is nothing more but a piece of cake.

Army dogs, wild dogs, domesticated dogs…… as long as they are still “dogs” at their very core, they will be relatively easy to tame and control..

「Go!」

Now, instead of the soldiers, this time around I was the one who gave the dogs their order.

And as expected, the military dogs turned around all at once, running and pouncing on the soldiers as they screamed in confusion and terror.

「Originally, if push was going to come to shove, we both wanted to step in and give you a hand, Rein, but…… At this rate, we see that there might not even be a need for us to do that. You have this thing pretty much covered.」

「For you to actually be able to handle all of those guys on your own…… No matter what you say, it’s downright amazing, Rein!」

「I guess that we should say that this is our Rein for you all! I mean, as expected of my beloved Master! You really are our pride and joy!」

I won’t lie, both Sora and Luna’s words were able to tickle my ego, if only just a little bit..

「Tch, what a useless bunch of idiots you lot turned out to be!」

「Isn’t it a high time for you to call it quits and just give up already?」

「…… Huh? Give up?　Me?　Hah! Don’t be stupid, you pleb! Once I have made up my mind to do something, I am not going to rest until I get my hands on it! I will do whatever it takes to do it, too! There’s no way I’m going to take back what I said before and just run away!」

Even though most of his soldiers have been defeated, the color of composure did not disappear from Edgar’s face. Quite the opposite, he seemed to be even more confident in himself than before.

Could it be that he himself had some sort of tremendous power sleeping inside of him?

Was that the source of his confidence? Because he knew that he would be able to take us on all by himself?

However, even if that was the case, he certainly did not look the part.

On the contrary, he looked as though he would be completely blown away even if I were to just smack him a little bit.

But despite the odds being more and more against him, that nasty smirk was still remaining on Edgar’s face, unlikely to disappear anytime soon.

And that meant that I couldn’t allow myself to let my guard down just yet. He still might have had a trick or two up his sleeve.

「If you are so insistent on continuing and you won’t back down, then what are you going to do now?　Are you going to fight us by yourself? Is that it?」

「…… Huh? What are you, stupid or something? Why in the world would I ever want to do that, fight by myself? That kind of thing should be done by stupid plebeians and mindless brutes, who do not have enough wit about them to think for themselves.」

「Are you sure that you yourself should not be included on that list of yours?」

「Oh, you can run that shitty little mouth of yours all you want, but I will shut you up right away…… Have a look at this!」
