Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 53 Part 1
CHAPTER 53: THE KNIGHTS’ ORDER PART 1
The Knights Order are a counterpart to the Adventurers’ Guild, established by the state in the city of Horizon.
If the Adventurer’s Guild works for the freedom of the People, the Knights Order works for the sake of the Order.
Their main job is to crack down on various criminals and maintain the security and safety of the entire city and its general premises.
That’s what the Knights Order is in a nutshell.
The headquarters of the Knights Order is located inside of the royal capital, but they also have their branches in every major city around the kingdom.
And the place where Kanade and I were headed right now was one of those branch offices.
As a side note here, we decided that the rest of our party should stay back at the inn for the time being.
It would be really inconvenient for us to go around town with such a large entourage, and as long as we were most probably being targeted by Edgar and his people, I did not want to make ourselves TOO obvious in what we were doing around town.
「Umm, excuse me.」
After we entered the building, I went towards the front desk and started talking to the receptionist there.
The system on which the Knights Order operates is not all that different from that employed by the Adventurers’ Guild.
「’Yes, how can I help you?」
「There has recently been a crime around town, and I wanted to ask about filing for damages caused by said crime.」
「Yes, what is this?」
「If I file a report, the Knights will have to investigate that matter, right?」
「Yes, of course. We, the Knights Order, exist to keep the order in the city at all times.」
「Great, then can we file the damage report right away for you to accept it? As to what it is about…… it’s about the abuse of power by the son of the Lord.」
「…… Hm!?」
The moment I said those exact words, I could see that the receptionist’s complexion changed entirely.
Now then.
I wonder how things are going to play out from here on out?
「Do you happen to know about the commotion that took place at one of the town’s squares not all that long ago?」
「……Yes, of course. It’s essential that we gather information really quickly, so that the following investigation can also be resolved as quickly as possible.」
「Actually, we happen to be the direct victims of that very incident.」
「What?」
「Myself, as well as my two other companions who are not currently with me were affected by the Lord’s son’s irresponsible actions. Oh yes, that person right here with me is just my other companion.」
「Hello there, I’m just some other companion who randomly decided to tag along.」
「A-A Cat Spirit Tribe? Why is one of the Ultimate Species here in the first…… No, nevermind that for now. Now is not the time for that. But anyways…… is what you are saying actually true?」
「Yes, of course. But if you say that you need a written testimony, shall we do it right here and right now? We can even gather some more eye witnesses. After all, it’s a fairly recent event, so I’m sure that there are plenty of people who will still remember it rather vividly.」
「…………….」
「Is there some sort of a form that I need to fill in if I want to file that report?
「That won’t actually be necessary.」
A voice came reaching my ears from somewhere across the reception hall.
The one who said those words was a grand old knight in heavy armor who suddenly appeared before us and stared at us.
「And what is that supposed to mean?」
「While it is true that the Lord’s son ‘s really seemed to have caused quite a stir, I have heard from a trusted source that it was only a trivial matter, merely a small fight. There’s no reason for the Knights Order to get involved with a matter that was a mere light fight. With all due respect, you’re making this story seem way bigger than it actually was, aren’t you?」
「Hmm, I see. So that’s how it is, huh?」
「H-Hey, what do you mean, it was just a small fight? That guy was trying to force both Sora and Luna to…… Rein?」
Kanade was about to protest even harder, but then I stopped her from doing that by giving her a meaningful look.
「So what you are saying here is that the Knights Order is not going to make any sort of move regarding this matter?」
「Incidents of that magnitude happen every day, and often at that. The Knights Order doesn’t have neither the time nor manpower to deal with every single little incident like this.」
「A small incident…… you say.」
「Besides, our research has shown that such stories are highly suspected of being a work of fabrication. We suspect that all such stories are an elaborate plot in order to ruin the reputation of our dear Lord…….」
「Believe me, I’m not fabricating anything here. And I do not intend to fabricate anything at all.」
「Well, if that is the case here, then can you please stop adding more work for our Order by coming here and trying to burden us with unnecessary things like that? Additionally, if you insist on speaking against our Lord and his son, you might be charged with a defamation attempt, and we will have to investigate you and your background as a result.」
Before we came here I was speculating all sorts of different patterns that were likely to play out here, but……
Apparently, this is going to be the worst pattern out of every single one I was able to come up with.
「Thank you for your wise words of advice. We are not trying to defame or discredit our dear Lord here, so I guess we won’t be submitting any damage report after all.」
「Yes, that’s a wise decision.」
「Well then, goodbye. Come on, Kanade, Let’s get back home.」
「Huh? A-Ah, y-yeah.」
Just like that, the two of us left the building of the Knights Order’s Branch.
As we left the building and moved to a less popular area, Kanade looked at me with puzzlement.
「Hey, hey, Rein. Are you sure about this? Weren’t you going to make them listen to what we had to say?」
「Yes, I was going to do that. But first, I wanted to make sure of something, so I wanted to check it before we would get down to business.」
「Nyan? Something you wanted to check?」
「I wanted to see if the Knights themselves are somehow connected to the Lord and his son, as well as their various misdeeds.」
No matter how many times the state audits are conducted on the Lord’s case, they were unable to find any conclusive evidence of the Lords’ misdeeds and misuse of power.
How can one obtain such a perfect ability to destroy evidence in the first place?
