「…… Alright. For the time being, we accept your apology. So please, raise your head already. There’s no need to keep it hung down like that.」

「Well, thank you. That’s very kind of you.」

「So, what can we do for you?　I don’t suppose you are here to remind me not to mention the incident to anyone else, do you?」

「No, that’s not it. Actually, I’m here to ask you the exact opposite of that.」

「The exact opposite?」

「Yes, that’s right. Oh, but where are my manners? I’m sorry for introducing myself so late. My name is Stella Emplace, I’m the Vice Captain of the Knights Order, Horizon Branch.」

「My name is Rein Shroud.」

「And I’m Kanade!」

「As to what my purpose here is, I want to expose the crimes and misdeeds of the Lord of this town and see him being brought to justice.」

The female knight……….Stella said something really unexpected just now.

Yes, that was so unexpected that it was actually outrageous to a certain extent.

I couldn’t actually help it but to roll my eyes.

「Nyah…… In other words, you’re actually on our side, Stella?」

「If that is what you really want to do, then yes, I am. And that is why I decided to call out to you.」

「How about you tell us your story for the time being?」

Because of their shady ties with the town’s Loard, it seems that the Horizon branch of the Knights Order has been rotten to its very core with corruption.

Most of the members of the Knights Order were actually at the mercy of the Lord, sitting deep inside of his pocket.

The captain of the Knights was also drowning in the Lord’s money and never conducted a proper investigation as far as the Lord was concerned.

Stella, who had a strong will and a sense of justice about herself, did not get involved in the bribes prepared by the Lord, which was a pretty remarkable feat in its own right.

She was said to be a type to work hard, work on her own, all to restore the proper shape of the Knights Order as it should be.

She wanted to restore the Order to its former glory and break it out of the shackles of corruption that was slowly rotting it away.

She wanted to reveal all the wrongdoings of the Lord who was the source of everything that was wrong with the Horizon Branch.

But, there’s only so much that a single person can hope to accomplish.

And so, there was a time where Stella happened to hit the wall and felt like there was nothing more that she could possibly do here.

Who are her allies, and who are the traitors?

She had no other choice but to continue her act of walking alone in the darkness, hoping that one day she would be able to set things right.

It was then that she just so happened to overhear our conversation.

An Adventurer with the Ultimate Species for a companion, the Cat Spirit Tribe, was complaining about the damage done by the Lord’s son.

As far as Stella knew, this could have very well been a major turning point for her entire struggle.

And so, she decided to make that gamble and approached us.

「…… Hmm, I see. So, that’s your reason, huh?」

「Nyaah…… You surely had it rough, didn’t you!?」

「Although it’s really embarrassing for me to be saying this, I was actually reaching the end of my rope here and was pretty much grasping at straws about what to do next. That’s why I decided to make that gamble and approach you two. Now, if we need the case to move forward, we need to have more information.」

「That being said, we don’t have all that much information that we can share either, do we?　I mean, it was only yesterday that we were involved with the Lord’s son for the very first time.」

「O-Oh? I-Is that so?」

「But we are still on the same page.」

「Yeah. And besides, we have just decided that we’re going to do something about the Lord ourselves, too.」

「Is…… Is that so? But…… why would you even……?」

「Knowing just how bad the situation here really is, there is no way that we can just leave it as it is, right?」

「…………….」

「…………….」

「…… Huh? Like…… that’s your only reason for doing this?」

「I mean, yeah? Do we really need any other reason?」

「You cannot just leave such an injustice go unpunished…… Are you saying that this is your only reason to go against the Lord and his entire establishment? Is that reason enough for you to make the entire Knights Order your enemies?」

「Well, to me, that is more than enough of a reason. I mean, do I really need a reason to help someone in need?」

「……Pfft, kuhahaha!!」

Stella laughs as if she couldn’t stand it anymore.

「Oh, no, that’s not it, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to make fun of you. It’s just that I have never thought that anyone would ever say such a thing seriously.」

「I mean, it’s just like Rein to do something like that, wouldn’t you say?」

For some reason, Kanade was smiling brightly as she said that.

She looked so happy, as if she was the one who just got praised.

「I think that we can actually work together on this one, what do you think?」

「Yes, of course. I guess I didn’t make a mistake in talking to both of you, after all.」

We then shook hands firmly.

「But what are we going to do from now?　You aren’t going to make only the Lord your enemy. You are going to have the entire Knights Order coming after you.」

「Yes, about that……」

「I guess we’ll just have to beat them all up all at once?」

「Well, that’s certainly a bad idea. If you do that without proof, you are just going toi be accused of treason.」

「Unyah…… It’s so annoying! We need proof, but! But the Knights won’t budge about procuring the proof, and they will even dispose of it! Nyaah! I’m thinking too much, I’m going to short-circuit my brain again!」

「…… No.」

I gathered my thoughts in my head after a brief moment of silence.

The Lord is our enemy here…… And the Knights are also our enemies……

What we need here is the proof that will allow us to bring them to justice.

All you have to do for that is……

「…… Yeah, it’s just like Kanade said. We are going to beat them all up at once.」

「W-What did you just say!?」

「Rein, are we really getting that desperate here?」

「No, it’s nothing like that. I just have come up with a great idea.」

「What kind of idea? Please let us know!」

「We need two things for this to work out: proof of wrongdoing on the Lord’s side and a righteous Knights Order that will bring the Lord and his cronies to justice. First, we need to return the Knights Order to its proper form as it should be.」

「That’s…… But what are you going to do about it?　Most of the group members are already tied to the Lord in one way or another. We’re at a huge disadvantage here, you know?」

「Yes, I am well aware of that fact. So we are going to perform a little bit of a cleanup duty.」

「Nyah? Cleaning?」

「We will eliminate the corrupt members of the group, all of them. In one fell swoop.」
