CHAPTER 54: BATTLE PREPARATIONS PART 1

The Knights Order is not working properly because of the fact that some of its members are connected to the Lord and his machinations behind the scenes.

And if that is the case here, then the solution to this entire situation is rather simple.

We just need to eliminate all of the members who are siding with the injustice of the Lord and acting against everything that the Knights Order stands for..

「Yes, I understand that much. But what I would like to know is this: how exactly do you intend to do that?」

Stella gave me a look of disbelief.

Yes, I was sure that she must have had a whole lot of questions inside of her head after hearing a declaration like that.

And I intended to answer each and every single one of her questions and concerns, all in order.

「First of all, we will sort out the members of the Knights Order who are connected to the Lord behind the scenes and those who are not.」

「But how exactly are you going to do that? Are you perhaps going to check each and every single one of them out? One by one?」

「No, that would take way too long. And no matter how much time we would have to prepare, we can’t afford to waste it on something that is so ineffective. I admit, it’s going to be a rather sketchy method, but if everything ends up working as intended, then it will all be good and we will surely achieve our goal.」

「Nyan? What do you mean?」

「Stella. Is there a member of the Knights Order who you can trust with your life? Someone who would be able to take care of a rather delicate task?」

「Well, I…… I can think of at least a few people like that.」

「Then why don’t you get those people to help you? There is a certain rumor that I would like those people to go and spread amongst the ranks of the Knights Order.」

I then proceeded to tell Stella about the plan that I have concocted inside of my head just now.

As she listened to me, Stella’s eyes started to open wider and wider in surprise…… and then, once I was finished, her expression turned into a look of utter admiration.

Apparently, she immediately understood what I was thinking here. Which actually saves me a whole lot of time to explain things to her.

「Hmm, I see. So, that’s the kind of plan that you had in mind? A bold move, to be sure……」

「I think this method will allow us to scoop out the most traitors in the Order’s ranks, and relatively fast at that. And the fewer people backing the Lord inside of the Order, the better it is for us. What do you think of that?」

「Well, not that it’s a bad plan, but it is not exactly ideal, either. But, I guess that in our current situation, it is the best kind of move that we can possibly make.」

「Do you have anything to add to it?」

「Well, even if your plan succeeds and you manage to root the traitors out, you’re going to be dealing with the vast majority of the Knights Order, which is at least a few dozen people all at once. What are you going to do about that fact?」

「Oh, that is actually the easiest part. We are going to set up a trap.」

I then proceeded to explain why my exact abilities were, as well as the contents of the ‘trap’ that we were going to use in order to help Stella out.

「I-Is it really possible to even do such a thing in the first place……?」

「Yes, it is, and it is not going to be that big of a problem. However, explaining exactly how it’s going to work would be a little bit problematic, so I hope that you can trust me on this one and just let us do our job.」

「…… Yes, of course. Of course I am going to believe you. I don’t know why, but I get a feeling that you are not the type of a man who would lie to others, Rein. But to be able to do such a thing…… I guess that you must be one hell of a guy and then some.」.

「You really think so? This much is as normal as it gets. At least I think so……」

「Nyaaah…… And once again, we get to see that what Reins considers to be natural and simple is something utterly impossible for us common folk.」

Hm? What’s this now? You make it sound as if it was some kind of a disease, Kanade.

Or rather, you make it sound as if I was the one who was weird in here.

「So, how about it? Anything that you wish to point out? Are there any holes that I might have forgotten to take into account here?」

「No, not really. I don’t think that your plan has any sort of problems or holes to it.」

「Well, for the time being, that’s good to hear.」

「On the other hand, for you to be able to think of a plan like that seemingly on the spot…… It’s actually amazing that you can do something like that, Rein.」

「U-Umm, umm…… W-Well, you know…… That’s because it’s Rein that we are talking about! Mufuh!」

For some odd reason, even though it was me who got praised here, it was actually Kanade who seemed to be the most proud of that fact.

Is she that happy that someone else was recognizing my abilities?

I mean, being praised like that it’s not all that bad of a thing in and out of itself, but…….

I am worried that Kanade actually has no clue as to what my plan really entails.

I will have to make up for that later, once I am going to explain my plan once more to Tanya and others back at the inn.

「When do you want to carry out this plan of yours?」

「Let’s do it tonight. No use in waiting.」

「…… Tonight? Isn’t that a little bit too soon?」

「No, like I said, the sooner we carry out this operation, the better. Once we get things rolling, what we want to do is to not give them any time at all to reorganize or to think about their next move. The more time we give them to think, the more likely it is that they are going to be able to read our intentions behind the scenes. It’s better not to give them time to think at all, and to push forward with our momentum as long as they remain confused and lost.」

「…… I see. Yeah, you’re right. You’re thinking about even the smallest of the details here, I see.」

「Yeah, that’s because it’s Rein that we are talking about here! Fumuh!!」

For some reason, Kanade once again seemed to be really proud of me, even though she was not the one who received words of praise.
