Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 56 Part 1
CHAPTER 56: THE FALL OF THE KNIGHTS PART 1
I could see that the knights were clearly surprised and confused by the sudden attack that was launched on them inside of the empty warehouse.
In the darkness, they could not distinguish between friend and foe quite well, not to mention that they were unable to move around properly without bumping into one another.
And while the confusion was still rendering the knights useless and unable to act properly, I used that opportunity to take out the knight who tried to use the magical light to illuminate the warehouse, striking him accurately with the poisoned needle shot from ‘Narukami’.
Of course, during this entire time I was keeping one of my eyes deliberately closed shut, all so that I would be able to get quickly accustomed to the darkness inside of the abandoned building.
That way, I was able to see our opponents’ movements really well, which was giving us an even greater advantage than ever before.
「Come on, what the hell are you doing!? Bring out those lights, you bastards! What’s with the delay!?」
「S-Sir, we can’t do that now! It looks like we are being sniped from somewhere…….. Ugh!?」
Seriously now…… If you scream that loud, it’s as if you are asking me to take aim and snipe away at you.
And surely enough, answering the ‘request’ of the screaming knight, I took aim and sniped away at him with another poisoned needle shot from my gauntlet.
As to what the actual poison on those needles was, it was a fast-acting paralyzing neurotoxin.
Immediately after he was hit by the poisoned needle, the knight became unable to move and fell to the ground.
「Damn it! Do something, you useless bastards! Stand your ground! Fight!」
Amongst the confused knights, there was one knight who was standing tall even in the middle of this commotion, throwing his hands and shouting out orders in a loud voice.
Not only that, but his sword and armor looked to be ornamented and of much better quality than the equipment that the rest of the knights were using Was he perhaps the Commanding Officer here?
Because if that was the case, then this man was the de facto symbol of the corruption of the Knights Order that Stella had mentioned to us before. And incidentally, that man would also be the head of the Horizon Branch of the Knights Order.
Bearing that thought in mind, I loaded the next needle into the gauntlet’s ejector.
I then took my aim at the target, and ejected the poisonous needle from the gauntlet, sending it flying through the air at high speed.
「Hmph!」
The Knight Commander swung his sword through the air and knocked the poisonous needle mid-flight, causing it to fall to the ground without ever reaching its target.
What an amazing reflex that was.
Perhaps he must have sensed the killing intent that was emanating from the direction where I was hiding, and intercepted the poisoned needle based solely on that.
So, it would seem that the title of the Commander of the Knights was not only for show, but there was also substance to back it up.
I think that this guy might actually cause a little bit of trouble to us. I could already tell that he would not go down all that easily.
「Forget about the lights! They won’t do us any good here! Focus on trying to go outside for now! On the double!」
Hearing their Commander’s orders, the knights tried to turn around and go back outside, but……
Before they were able to do that, the door leading outside of the warehouse was closed right before their very eyes.
I guess it must have been Stella’s people doing their part of the plan while waiting just outside of the warehouse.
「W-What the……!? T-The door! W-Why would it…… all of a sudden……!?」
「Kuh, they won’t even budge! Not even an inch! C-Commander, sir! We seem to be trapped in here!」
「What is this…… It’s as if, as if whoever is behind this knew that we would come here, and…… Tch, I see. So, is that how it is, huh?」
「Commander, sir……?」
「This is a trap! We have been set up! As for who is responsible for this, it’s probably the doing of those blasted fools who still believe in their silly notion of ‘Justice’!」
Hoo…… I see that this Knight Commander was also not half-bad at using his head, especially in a situation quite like this. That’s actually impressive.
Not only was he able to deflect my poison needle, keeping a cool head about him in the middle of such an unfavorable situation, but he also recovered his mind enough from the turmoil and has recovered his mind enough to be able to deduce who the ringleader here actually was.
「W-Whatever shall we do, Commander!? I can’t believe that something like this is happening to us……」
「Don’t panic! Keep your cool! Remember? We still have a tremendous advantage when it comes to sheer numbers. As long as we are calm and composed about this, there is no way in hell that those bastards are going to get us. On the contrary, we are going to be the ones who are going to get back at them! And I think that the heads of the traitors on the silver platter are going to make the Lord quite pleased with us.」
「S-Sir! Yes, sir!」
With just a single speech like that, the Knight Commander managed to get his men all in order and dispel their fear and doubts.
That’s actually quite a feat to accomplish in the middle of battle while also being at a disadvantage.
The ability to instantly assess the situation. The ability to inspire your men, even in the middle of a crisis. The ability to give them the most appropriate orders.
Each of those things are not something that is easy to pull off.
Maybe that Knight Commander is a whole lot tougher of an opponent than I had thought?
But still…… Up until now, everything was going exactly the way I planned.
It was all all within my expectations that he would be able to quickly regain his composure and muster up his troops to action, as well as being able to figure out that it was actually Stella who was behind this ambush.
Realizing that, I called out to both Tanya and Stella, who were also climbing on the steel frames at the opposite sides of the warehouse, respectively.
「Tanya, Stella, if you’d be so kind.」
「Of course. Leave it all to me!」
「Yes! Let’s do it!」
Tanya readied a Fireball in the palm of her hand, adjusted accordingly so that its destructive power could be kept to bare minimum.
As for Stella, she drew a dagger in her hand.
After that, they each targeted the warehouse’s windows, aiming to break the remainder of the glass that was still left in the windows frames.
The loud and sudden sound of the glass being broken managed to upset the knights for a moment, but since it was an action that was of no real consequence to them, they quickly got over it and focused on the orders that they were given.
