Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 57 Part 2
CHAPTER 57 PART 2
I opened my mouth, seeing as we were getting more and more off track here.
Let’s just get the conversation back on the right track before it gets derailed even further.
「Anyways…… With this, we don’t have to worry about those former knights any longer. We can worry about administering their punishment sometime later, but for the time being let’s just focus on what’s ahead. We still have a job that needs to be done.」
「Yes, that’s right. Let’s do just that. We can’t afford to waste any more time here. Let’s just raid the Lord’s mansion and get this entire ordeal over with.」
「Kukuku, my body is trembling with excitement! Finally, it is time for the world to bear witness to my amazing power!」
「Let’s make them regret ever trying to get their hands on Sora and Luna!」
Surprising to no one, both Sora and Luna seemed to be really motivated to get this raiding operation underway as soon as possible.
After all, they were the ones who were the direct target of the Lord’s son’s evil intentions, so it’s not like I can blame them for that……
I guess that they could be even more resentful and angry than most people would think. And they were doing a good job at not letting those emotions be seen by others.
「There is one huge problem here, however: that the Lord’s forces might resist us and use violence to escalate the conflict.」
「…… Would he really want to resist the official business from the Knights Order?」
「It’s exactly because it is going to be an official business from the Knights Order that he might want to fiercely resist us.」
「Hmm, I see.」
I think I was able to understand what Stella was trying to say here. At least to some extent.
However, Kanade and the others did not seem to understand it nearly as well and had literal question marks floating above their heads right now.
「H-Hey, what does that supposed to mean, exactly?」
「The Knights Order has the power to audit the Lord, isn’t that right? But at the same time, it’s not like they are coming here to openly admit that he is guilty, so wouldn’t trying to resist the audit be more or less equivalent to admitting his guilt?」
「Well, the thing here is……」
Until now, the Lord had accepted the audits of the Knights Order because they were connected to him behind the scenes. And his bribes made it so that he had no reason to be afraid of being audited.
Even if the Knights Order would find some evidence hinting towards his crimes, the Lord knew all too well that they would simply disregard that and determine that the accusations were pretty much baseless. That way he would have nothing to worry about.
But now that the Knights Order has been purged of its corrupt members, the situation was going to be dramatically different.
The knights sent to audit the Lord would never overlook any evidence of injustice or wrongdoing on his part.
And if the Lord was really as shrewd and clever as everyone was shaping him out to be, he would know what that meant.
If he was to accept the audit from the normalized Knights Order, it would be all over for him.
And if he really understood the implications of that fact, he would refuse the audit and resist it no matter what, even if he was to use force.
「But if he was to resist the audit…… Then what would happen? Surely he wouldn’t have any other options left?」
「Once he would successfully manage to get rid of us, the rest would actually be easy for him. Everything would actually go back to the way it was before. It would be as if nothing has changed. Well, the details might actually be slightly different here, but that would be the gist of it. At least that’s what I think.」
「Hmm, I see…… So, in other words, the result of the battle that is sure to follow after this is directly going to decide about which side is going to be victorious and who is going to be the loser.」
「Yes, which is exactly why we absolutely cannot allow ourselves to be defeated. That being said, the preliminary research that we had done on the Lord indicates that he actually went and hired some private soldiers to guard the perimeter of his mansion. All in the name of keeping it secure at all times.」
「Do you happen to know just how many of those private soldiers the Lord managed to hire?」
「We actually do not know that, but from our raw estimates, it would have to be at least a few dozen people. We haven’t been able to confirm it, but there are rumors circulating around town that the mercenaries that the Lord has employed are comparable in strength to B-rank Adventurers.」
And B-rank Adventurers are said to possess the strength of dozens of people all on their own.
And now we get to know that a whole bunch of those guys, battle-hardened no less, are guarding the Lord’s mansion……
If this is indeed true, then this is going to be really tricky, without a shadow of a doubt.
「…… Can’t we use those butterflies from earlier? They seemed to be pretty effective.」
「That, is actually going to be really difficult…… If push comes to shove and we are forced to force our way into the mansion, the most likely scenario here would be that we would encounter resistance before the mansion’s main gate, right? Butterflies’ scales are really potent, but they are also easily blown away by the slightest gust of wind, so using them outdoors or in any kind of open space is not going to be all that effective. Also, if we are really forced to fight those mercenaries, we would have to do it in close quarters, which means that the butterflies would also attack our allies, even if it was by a complete accident.」
「W-Well, now that you mention it…… Muh.」
The reason as to why we were able to incapacitate the corrupt knights all at once was only because we were able to successfully lead them away into somewhere secluded and trap them in a closed space.
However, this time around, we cannot hope that things would work out in the same way for us.
And since we are going to be storming the enemy’s main stronghold this time around, we cannot set up a trap in advance, since that would require going there in advance and getting everything ready.
As unfortunate as that sounds, this battle would be a really primitive numbers versus numbers battle. A class of powers, so to speak.
However, that matter is actually not something that I was particularly worried about all that much.
If we were really starved for allies here, I could alway go into the bushes at the perimeter of the town and tame some wild beasts to bolster our numbers with them. That would allow us to increase our own forces and possibly take the enemies by surprise.
