But the way we are right now, I don’t really think that we are going to be in need of such reinforcements. We have more than enough people on our side.

Now, while it is also true that the strength of our enemy is of unknown quantity, with all those mercenaries and other whatnot……

But unless it is going to turn out to be something that we really did not expect and we find ourselves in some really deep water, Kanade alone here should be more than enough to make the difference and balance things out in our favor.

Fortunately enough, Kanade herself seemed to be well aware of that fact, for she was sort of shadow boxing in place while her whole body was shaking with excitement.

「Just leave it all to me! No matter how many opponents there are standing in our way, I’m going to kick them all to the curb and clear a path forward!」

「Are you really sure about this, Kanade? You know, you don’t really have to force yourself if you don’t feel like you can do it……」

「Sure thing! You can leave everything to me!」

「…… Thank you, Kanade.」

Now, the only matter that was left to consider here was Stella. Because I was sure that she actually might have some really mixed feelings about all this.

After all, Horizon was her city. And now that it turned out that she was unable to protect that city with her own strength, she had to turn towards enlisting the help of others in order to save it from corruption and evil.

I don’t know how she might have felt about it, but I know that if it was me who was in her shoes, I would certainly feel conflicted about this entire matter.

But still, reluctant though she might have been, Stella did not refuse our cooperation tonight, but rather welcomed it with open arms.

It seems that in order to see justice being served and righting the city’s many wrongs, she was willing to put that goal of hers before her pride.

Surely enough, Stella would make a wonderful Knight Commander for the reformed branch of the Knight Order.

I felt like I could picture that kind of future quite clearly with my eyes.

「Once again, I would like to thank you all so very much. I cannot even begin to describe just how great of a help it is that you are lending us your aid, Rein and his company.」

「Oh, no need to worry about that. Besides, it’s not like we have nothing to do with this entire affair, so it’s only a matter of course that we are going to help you guys out.」

「Yes, and while we are still on that particular subject…… I’m really sorry for bringing it up right now, but there is one more thing that I would like to discuss with you really quickly.」

「And what would that thing be?」

「We have heard that there might be citizens locked up in the Lord’s mansion. People who were taken from the streets and imprisoned there against their will. I’m afraid that if push comes to shove, the Lord might actually try to use them as hostages in order to get the upper hand……」

「Hostages, you say……?」

We knew that the Lord was a despicable person, but would he really steep so low as to use his own citizens as meat shields? Even thinking about that was outrageous enough, but……

I couldn’t honestly think about such action as taking more and more unnecessary risks.

The question now was: would he really choose that route, no matter the consequences?

And I could definitely say that it was a likely possibility.

After all, you never know what a cornered person will choose to do.

Few people are capable of acting intelligently and within the boundaries of reason at all times.

As long as there’s even a one percent chance of that thing happening, we will have to be vigilant at all times.

「Then let’s split up into two groups: one group will storm the mansion and the other will go to rescue the trapped citizens.」

「Yes, that’s a good course of action.」

「In that case, allow me to be in charge of the rescue team. Also…… Sora and Luna, would you like to come with me?」

「Yes, I understand.」

「Sure thing! Just leave it all to us!」

Of course, when I asked those two for help, the other two started to complain almost right away.

「Huh? Umm, what about me? Hey, hey, Rein! Can’t you take me with you as well?」

「Shouldn’t I come along with you?　It’s not that I’m worried about Rein or anything like that, but you know…… just to be on the safe side?」

「Sora and Luna can both use a versatile amount of powerful magic. I think they would be ideal for this type of infiltration mission. Kanade, I don’t think you are actually a good match for the stealthy approach. I mean, no offense, but solving problems with your strength and agility seems to be your forte. As for you, Tanya…… If possible, I would like to keep the risk of the entire mansion going up in flames to the absolute minimum, so……」

「Is it just or, or is the way you think about me actually horrible, nya!?」

「Is that really what you think of me, Rein!?」

Yeah…… I want you both to think back to what you said and did in the past, and maybe then you will have the right to actually complain about my choice of people.

「Nyah, but I guess I can’t really be helped. After all, Rein is the one calling the shots here.」

「Don’t get me wrong, Stella’s backup is an important part of it. I can’t just leave it to any random person out there. It’s because I know that I can trust you both, Kanade and Tanya, and I know that you will do a great job at protecting her. You may have a lot on your mind about this, but will you let it slide just this once? Please? Do it for me?」

「W-Well…… I-I guess that i-if you’re going to say that much, I cannot really help it but to do it! And I can’t really blame you! Alright! Just leave everything to us and go do your own thing!」

「Nyah, same here! You can count on us!」

And now we are going to fight the Lords of this entire city.

This is truly an unprecedented operation that we are taking part in right now.

If we fail here, we are going to be thrown in jail for treason for sure.

If we are not careful enough, the Lord might use his prisoners as meat shields, or get rid of all of the incriminating evidence.

But even so, I was still strangely not worried or afraid about any of this.

「…… Nyah?　What’s wrong, Rein?」

I was looking at everyone gathered here when Kanade noticed my gaze and looked at me curiously.

「Oh, no. It’s nothing. Really.」

「…… Nyan?」

…… Yes, I am not alone in this.

Kanade, Tanya, Sora, Luna…… I have my precious friends here with me.

And it is precisely because of that fact that I feel like I could accomplish anything right now.

Yes…… I feel like there is no challenge that I wouldn’t be able to overcome right now!
