Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 58 Part 1
CHAPTER 58: THE COLLABORATOR PART 1
Edgar Frommware was an arrogant man who, thanks to his status as the Lord’s only son, treated other people’s lives as mere toys with which he could do as he pleased.
He did not feel any guilt for toying with the lives of others, and he would simply conduct his behavior as if what he was doing was the perfectly obvious and acceptable norm.
To him, other people were simply nothing more than tools and toys, something the purpose of which was to give him even more and even stronger pleasure than before.
Now, even though Edgar might have been an evil and incorrigible human being, he was by no means a fool.
He was actually very quick-witted and was able to see things from a broader perspective in a blink of an eye.
Because of that, he immediately understood that his actions would cause the people to feel antipathy towards him, which would lead them to direct their displeasure towards the Lord.
And it was precisely because of that fact that he approached the Knights Order with sufficient and attractive bribes, all so that he could escape from the hands of the audit that would surely come his way sooner or later.
However, Edgar was also not such an optimistic man to think that only one bribe would be more than enough for him to be set free of all of his troubles and guarantee his action to be above the rules of law.
After all, life is unpredictable, and unexpected troubles can strike at any time of the day, without any prior warning.
In preparation for those unforeseen times, Edgar had made his own personal preparations, just so that he could be extra sure that he had everything covered, just so that he could be on the safe side.
He would use the Lord’s money to buy off some of the knights all so that they would keep their eyes and ears open around town, so that he would always be up to speed and receive regular reports on any rumors or news surrounding him or the Lord.
He would have the knights prepare an insider amongst their ranks, someone who would constantly watch out for any knights who were trying to investigate him or his father, or be on the lookout for any “treacherous” individuals in general.
All the things that he did was so that he would have his own personal safety secured in a myriad of different ways in case of an emergency.
And today was the day when those safety measures finally came to be useful for once.
Because tonight, Edgar had received a report that all of the knights who accepted bribes and helped him to cover up all of his crimes had been caught and incarcerated all at once.
「God damn it all!!!」
Upon receiving the report from his agent, Edgar slammed the glass in his hand to the floor.
The glass broke into hundred little shards and the spilled wine soaked into the expensive-looking carpet.
「The knights have been arrested, it says!? And not to mention, all of them, its says!? This cannot be! That’s impossible! What the hell are those idiots even doing!? That’s not what I’m paying them for!」
「Hyih!?」
Seeing Edgar becoming angrier and angrier by the moment, the little girl who was also present in the room twitched violently, her arms shaking and her body shivering in fear and terror.
In response to that frightened gesture of the girl, Edgar’s body twitched and then he shift his focus on her.
「…… What are you looking at?」’
「Huh……?」
「I asked: what the HELL, ARE YOU LOOKING AT!?」
「I…… I didn’t…… I didn’t look at anything…… Aaugh!?」
Before the girl could even finish her sentence, Edgar slapped her across the cheek with all of his might.
Unable to brace herself for incoming impact and surprised by the suddenness of Edgar’s actions, the girl couldn’t help it but to collapse onto the floor.
「Ah…… It hurts……」
Falling right on top of the shards of broken glass on the carpet, some of them managed to hurt the girl’s delicate skin.
However, Edgar did not seem to care about that at all, as he continued to abuse the girl, this time starting to kick her with all of his might.
He kicked her again and again, as if hoping that this action would allow him to vent all of his pent up frustration.
As for the girl, there was nothing that she could possibly do to stop him or to save herself from this abuse.
She could only curl up and try to do her best at enduring it, as if she was waiting for the violent storm to eventually pass on its own.
It hurts.
It’s so painful.
It hurts so much.
The girl repeated those words inside of her mind, all the while muttering “I’m sorry…… I’m so sorry……” with a breaking voice, tears dripping down her cheeks.
Seeing the girl writhe in so much pain and suffering was starting to please Edgar very much.
It was simply exhilarating to see someone apologize to him so much, with their face covered in tears and snot. It was making him feel as if he was some omnipotent God, looking down on mortals underneath him.
In his mind, that kind of attitude was exactly how the Lord should act towards his subjects at all times.
Continuing to torment the girl for a little while longer, eventually her reaction started to bore him and Edgar’s beating and abuse eventually came to a slight pause.
So, as if he had lost all interest in the girl, Edgar eventually sat down on a chair and let out a sigh.
「Now then, whatever the hell am I supposed to do about this……?」
Truth to be told, he wanted to torment the girl some more, but at the same time he had to start thinking about the future and what his next move was going to be.
Edgar then looked out the window and pondered the nearest future and the actions that he would have to take.
「All of the knights who were connected to us through bribes were captured and incarcerated all at once…… Is something like that really possible?」
First of all, Edgar started his pondering from doubting the accuracy of the insider’s report.
It was a small wonder that he would do that.
After all, about ninety percent of the entire Knights Order was connected to him and the Lords through bribes and various criminal activities.
So…… does that mean that by some weird miracle, the remaining ten percent managed to somehow overthrow that ninety percent?
No matter how Edgar was trying to think about it, it was something that was clearly not possible.
There was no way that those remaining ten percent of the Knights Order would possess enough power and resources to overpower that vast majority. Thinking otherwise was nothing more but a delusion.
When it comes to Gilet, the current Knight Commander, was a man who certainly did not have much of a head on his shoulders, but it was undeniable that he possessed a certain amount of ability to use where and when it counted.
