Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 66
CHAPTER 66: SORA AND LUNA’S BATTLE
Sola and Luna were dealing with three mercenaries on their own.
The one with a sword, the one with a spear, and one with a two-handed axe.
Each of them were approaching Sora and Luna with the intent of engaging them in close quarters combat.
「「“Flash Impact”!!!」」
At the same time, both Sora and Luna unleashed their Advanced-Level magic that exploded in a flash of bright light.
That bright light flooded the entire entrance hall of the mansion, making it hard to actually see anything.
The impact of the spell raged like a wild living creature, trying to swallow the mercenaries whole, but……
「…… Huh!? It missed!?」
「Sister dearest, don’t tell me that you actually closed your eyes as well and were not looking where you were pointing the spell?」
「Of course not! I would never do such a thing!」
By the time that their magic had been resolved, the mercenaries had already moved out of their sight.
They had assessed what Sora and Luna were trying to accomplish and managed to escape to safety outside of the spell’s range just as the Spirit Tribe twins were releasing their magic.
In and out of itself, their ability to properly analyze their opponent’s actions and evade them just in the nick of time was amazing.
TAP! TAP! TAP!
The sound of footsteps approaching fast could be heard from their right side.
And their speed meant that Sora and Luna didn’t even have time to properly look back and assess the situation.
「Here they come!」
「I’m well aware of that! “Gravity Wall”!!!」
Right after Luna deployed her defensive magic instantly……
The mercenaries appeared from the right hand side of the two of them and waved their weapons in unison.
CLUNG!!!
Sparks flew as the three distinct blades collided with the magically created gravity barrier.
Of course, once they realized what was going on, the mercenaries were not foolish enough to dare and challenge their own strength against that of the magic barrier.
They quickly put their weapons back and retreated to a safe distance.
However, that distance remained close enough to their opponents so that they would be able to react to their next move at a moment’s notice.
「Fufufnh! It’s useless! You won’t be able to break my barrier with that level of attack, hahahaha!」
「LUNA!!! Please don’t speak lines like that! It makes you sound like some corny villain…… your lines like a villain…… “Ignite Lance”!!!」
While scolding her sister with an upset voice, Sora unleashed her own attack magic.
Three spears the size of a grown man, woven with red lotus flames, were shot out from the palm of her hand.
With a tail of flames dragging behind them, the spears of the bright red color approached the mercenaries.
Timing, power…… It was a perfect strike, no matter how you would like to look at it.
However………
「…… What?」
The mercenaries picked up a nearby decorated jar and other objects and smashed them into the flaming spear, intercepting the projectiles’ trajectory.
This was not the kind of magic that could be stopped by such things alone.
The spears of fire shattered the vases and other objects and continued to fly towards the mercenaries…….
But the impact of shattering jars and other objects deflected the trajectory of the spears ever so slightly.
They passed through the sides of the mercenaries and landed on the ground right beside them.
「That’s actually impressive, I won’t lie.」
On the spur of the moment, they decided to fit the incoming projectiles with physical objects just so that they could change their trajectories.
It was not an easy thing to accomplish, even more so since they were in the middle of battle.
Sora and Luna raised their vigilance up a notch in response to that.
Their opponents were not just your regular humans.
They recognized them as the ‘enemy’ that could easily go toe to toe with the members of the Ultimate Species.
They might have been slightly careless in how they underestimated their opponents.
Therefore, the two of them were forced to fight a hard battle.
「Tch, pesky little insects…… How about you stop hiding behind some petty tricks and fight us properly! But don’t expect us to go easy on you!」
「Oi, don’t be reckless! Think before you act and attack properly!」
The mercenaries had then split into two groups and proceeded to attack Sora and Luna in a new formation.
A duo of sword and spear took turns hurling their weapons at them.
The remaining one swung his two-handed axe at the perfect time to fill the gap between the intervals between the duo’s attacks.
When Sora and Luna tried to move to counterattack, they retreated as if they had sensed it beforehand and took their distance back to safety.
「They might have been their enemies, but their coordination was still quite admirable……」
Sora clicked her tongue in frustration.
「This is no time to be impressed by the enemy, sister dearest! If this is the case, we will only be wasting time on some useless actions!」
「Yes, I know! But what do you want me to do here!?」
「…… Why don’t we just use Super-Wide Rage magic to blow them up all together?」
「But it would also get Rein and everyone else caught in the blast!」
「…… Yeah, no. That’s completely out of the question.」
「I’d rather want to know what made you think that such a stupid idea would pass in the first place……」
「“Gravity Wall”!!!」
Luna’s magical barrier stopped the mercenaries’ assault temporarily.
As for Luna herself, she was dripping all over with cold sweat.
That was a really close call right there.
If the activation of the magic had been delayed for a few more seconds, they might not have been able to prevent the mercenaries from attacking further.
But from that point onwards, the accuracy of the mercenaries’ coordination had increased even more.
It was as if the three of them were united in their thought processes.
They compensated for each other’s blind spots and attacked at the perfect timing without showing any gaps or openings in their defenses.
If a fight like that was to drag on ,then maybe……
The mercenaries’ attack might actually reach them for real.
Sora and Luna’s expression turned significantly darker as they considered that grim possibility.
What would happen if they were to lose here?
If they were captured by the enemy or held hostage, they could cause trouble for their friends.
But most importantly, this might end up putting Rein in danger.
Anything but that.
That was the only thing that they absolutely couldn’t allow.
Sora and Luna looked at each other…… and nodded with a coy smile as if to confirm something.
「「“Fireball Multishot”!!!」」
At that moment, Sora and Luna fired a series of magic shots, just as Rein used to do way back in the mines.
Continuous Chanting.
This is a special skill that only the Spirit Tribe can use.
However, it was nothing nearly as impressive as the one that Rain used before.
Rein used several elementary magic shots at the same time.
As for them, they had three mercenaries that they had to defeat, so you would think that three fireballs would be more than enough here.
But in contrast, Sora and Luna…… They had created more than ten fireballs each.
Both sisters combined, there were more than twenty of them.
Literally, the fireballs rained down on the mercenaries like a heavy rain from the sky.
The mercenaries’ faces twitched all at once.
As expected, face against an overwhelmingly powerful barrage of magic like that, their only option here was to retreat to safety.
On their way, they were hit by several fireballs.
Even so, even though it was elementary magic, it was not powerful enough to cause them to fall onto the floor, utterly defeated.
The mercenaries avoided the fireballs that were fired in rapid succession while steadily increasing their distance from Sora and Luna.
This much should be fine.
They did not know what kind of magic trick they used, but they didn’t think they could pull off that kind of bullshit trick for much longer.
Besides, their control over that volley seemed to be really lax.
And if they were to overuse this technique, they would eventually get their companions involved for sure.
With that in mind, it was unlikely that they would use it for much longer.
Although this was certainly an unexpected occurrence……
They were still the ones to have the upper hand in this battle.
The mercenaries surely thought so, but……
That was nothing more but their own carelessness.
「Right there!」
「It’s over!」
Sora and Luna pointed their palms at the mercenaries with a look of utter confidence in their victory.
The mercenaries were suspicious of such a situation coming from the Spirit Tribe Twins.
The distance between them has opened up considerably, but that was all there was to it.
There were not nearly enough elements here for the two of them to be able to say that the matter was as good as settled here.
So why were they making that face filled with confidence……?
It was then that they could feel a slight shift under their feet.
They looked down and saw that the floor was covered in a thick layer of ice.
The ice was also tangled up to their ankles and they couldn’t move nearly as swiftly as before.
When did it happen?
To the stunned mercenaries, Luna nearly smiled grimly and opened her mouth:
「Hmph, that’s my specialty! The Delayed Activation Magic! I knew you would flee to that spot in advance. I dared to drive you into that place and activated the magic that I had previously put in place to make you unable to move just now…… Hmm, is this how you explain it? Were you even able to comprehend that? …… Oh well. Anyways, Sister Dearest! Sora! It’s time for you to do your part!」
「You are acting so high and mighty again…… And you lack a sense of respect for your sister, to boot!」
「Oh, come on! Quit your whining and get on with it!」
「Yeah, I know, I know!」
The mercenaries went all pale once they understood the precarious situation in which they had found themselves.
Faster than they could shout “We surrender……!”, Sora’s magic burst forth.
「“Flash Impact”!」’
A flash of bright light was unleashed and enveloped the mercenaries whole.
There was also a burst of sound that could be heard.
「…… I guess that means that victory is ours, right?」
「HAHAHAHA!!! Yes, it was so easy for us to accomplish! Not that I ever doubted that, even for a moment!」
Sora and Luna both laughed proudly and then exchanged high fives with one another.
