Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 82 Part 1

CHAPTER 82: HOME, GET! PART 1

Having resolved the situation, we invited Natalie-san, who was still waiting outside, to join us in the living room to talk.

「Let’s start off by introducing ourselves. My name is Rein Shroud. I’m an Adventurer and my profession is that of the Beast Tamer.」

「My name is Kanade….. I’m the member… of the Cat Spirit Tribe……」

It was already a while since Kanade managed to regain her consciousness.

The ghost has quieted down since then, but for some reason she still seemed scared of her and would hopelessly cling to my back.

「My name is Tanya. I am the proud member of the Dragon Tribe!」

「Sora is Sora.」

「And I am Luna! Hmph! You’d better make sure to worship me properly, or else……!」

Since Natalie-san was still with us, Sora and Luna refrained from announcing that they are in fact Spirit Tribe members and hid their wings with their magic so that they wouldn’t be found out.

「Umm…… M-My name is… Nina…… If you want to know…… I’m the member…… of the God Tribe……」

Said while bowing her head down politely.

Even though Nina still looked afraid of the Ghost, she was able to actually greet it properly.

「My name is Natalie. I’m an employee of the Adventurers’ Guild and today I showed Shroud-san here and his friends around the house, since they intended to buy it.」

After our introductions were pretty much complete, the Ghost finally spoke up.

「My name is Tina Holly. A long time ago, I worked as a maid in another town, but unfortunately I died in an accident about thirty years ago…… I have been wandering about this world ever since, and I eventually ended up here.」

Was it just me, or was her way of speaking rather peculiar?

She didn’t look much different from us all, but she’s been a ghost for thirty years, so that makes her that much older, in a sense. So……

Maybe it had something to do with the way in which people were speaking in the past, and that it was so much different from today.

But that gap made her seem older than she actually was.

「Have you been living here for a long time now, Tina?」

「Nah, not really, no. It’s actually been fairly recently since I arrived here in this place. You see, I am not an earthbound ghost, so it’s not like I need to be bound to a certain place or land all the time. I can actually wander around freely.」

「Ahh…… Could it be that, a while ago there was an incident when there was some eerie figure spotted here…… Was that your work, Holly-san?」

「W-Well, I guess that…… I guess that you could say that? Technically?」

In response to Natalie-san’s question, Tina honestly admitted that she was the one who was actually responsible for that incident, although she did so really reluctantly.

Seeing the awkward look on her face, she actually may not have done it on purpose, just as she was saying.

「The place where I used to live before was demolished. I was just wandering around looking for a new place to live. you see. I didn’t want to scare you all, but you surely realize that it is unbearable when you just want to have some peace and quiet and someone keeps on bothering you.」

「Well, it’s not like anyone was harmed by the ghost in the long run, so there is actually no problem, I’d say? …… But that being said, the illegal occupation of private property is a whole different matter altogether.」

「Uuhh……」

「Let me guess…… The reason for the rumor of the haunted house being born in the first place was because of you, Tina? Because you have chosen this place as your new home? And because you did just that, the market value of this property has plummeted? And since it did, no one wanted to buy it anymore, and even if they did, you would scare them away? Is that how the rumor was perpetuated?」

「Yeah, about that, you know…… Yeah, I’m sorry about that. No, like, I’m REALLY sorry.」.

Judging from Tina’s expression, she really meant what she just said.

And the more we talked to her like this, the more human she was starting to feel to us..

Ghosts don’t usually have an ego or personality of their own.

But that was only natural.

After all, ghosts have no substance, and therefore they lack the brain necessary to think.
It’s impossible for them to maintain a proper consciousness in such a state…… But……

Apparently, Tina seemed to be a special kind of a ghost.

This way, she could talk normally, and her emotions of joy, anger, sadness and sorrow could all be felt and properly expressed..

「Why did you become a ghost in the first place, Tina?」

I was curious about Tina’s background and asked her such a question.

「Hm? Oh, that? Well, it’s not really that exciting or interesting of a story, let me tell you.」

「Still, I’m curious to hear what you have to say about it.」

「Well, I don’t really mind that…… And basically, I owe you guys one for not getting rid of me right away.」

Tina said while smiling at me.

As I thought, it was hard for me to believe that she was just a normal ghost.

「As you can clearly see from that outfit of mine, I was a maid those thirty years ago, working at a certain mansion for a certain man…… Well, as it turned out, the owner of the mansion was a really horrible man. He was a hopeless womanizer and an irredeemable pervert who took pleasure in torturing people.」

「This is……」

「Of course, when I was starting my job there, I had no way of actually knowing anything about that. I would just keep on doing my daily duties as any normal maid would, without knowing or even suspecting anything…… and without even knowing what was going on, I was killed by the very Lord for whom I was working.」

The conversation suddenly took a very dark and heavy turn.

As the person who wanted to know what Tina’s story was, I was feeling really awkward for bringing that up in the first place.

However, Tina would only laugh the matter off pleasantly, as if she didn’t really care that much about such things in the first place.

「Nah, don’t worry about it. It’s not something you should be concerning yourselves with, Rein and company. I mean, it’s something that happened more than thirty years ago, and I already managed to forget a whole lot about it in the first place.」

「Maybe so, but still…… I’m really sorry to hear this. Because of me you had to remember something really unpleasant, right?」

「Well, I said that I don’t really mind all that much, didn’t I? Really, I have already forgotten most of it…… and you say that I’m a ghost, but I must say that my current state doesn’t bother me that much. On the contrary, I feel I like it even better than when I was alive.」
