Beast Tamer Who Got Kicked Out From the Hero’s Party Chapter 9

CHAPTER 9: KING LIZARD

An hour has passed after several hundred Earl Bees rushed into the bandits’ hideout.

「That should be about time, huh?」

Having said that to myself, I stepped into the bandit hideout.

「Guh…… Gagagah……」

「A-Ah…… m-my body……」

「God, damn it…… Why…… is this even……」

Bandits were lying all over the place, unable to move and confused as to what happened to them.

Everyone seemed to have been hit by the Earl Bee’s poison, and some of them were still convulsing and swaying on their feet, trying to stand up but being unable to do so.

I searched the hideout from one end to another, checking every single nook and cranny. I then confirmed that everyone had successfully collapsed.

It looks like we can safely arrest those guys.

Now, the only thing left for me to do was to simply wait for Kanade to come back and bring those Adventurers and soldiers with her. And hopefully she was going to gather as many people as she possibly could……

「Hmm?」

For some reason, the outside of the cave was getting awfully noisy.

「Hey, Rein! I brought those guys that you wanted!!!」

I could hear Kanade’s loud and cheerful voice.

Apparently, Kanade also managed to successfully fulfill her task.

I then went outside of the cave and explained the situation to the reinforcements Kanade had brought with her.

The Adventurers and soldiers were all skeptical at first, but when I showed them the bandits lying around in the cave, they seemed to finally believe me.

The gathered adventurers and soldiers then worked together to bring the bandits into custody one by one.

Kanade and I watched the scene happen from the entrance of the cave.

「Nyafu, I’m a little tired because I was in such a hurry.」

「Hmm, I see. Good work.」

「Say, Rein, Rein~? Was I useful?」

「Yeah, that’s right. You managed to get back here right on time. Thank you for that.」

「Nyaa♪ I got praised by Rein again~!」

When I stroked Kanade’s head, her ears twitched adorably.

She seemed to be really happy with that.

「Well then, I guess this makes that case officially settled.」

「…… Nyah!?」

Suddenly, Kanade’s face turned sharp.

It was a rather grim expression, as if she was wary of something.

「What’s wrong, Kanade?」

「This presence…… This is bad, Rein!」

Huh? And before I was able to ask her what she meant by that……

A loud scream and even louder roar could be heard from further inside the cave.

「What the!?」

We hurried inside on the double.

And once we got there……

「GYIIISSSHHHAAAAAAHHHHHH!!」

A gigantic lizard, perhaps ten meters tall, was attacking the Adventurers and soldiers.

I remember learning about this individual when I was training as a Beast Tamer a few years back.

「King Lizard.」

A monster comparable to a C-rank Monster, it is a ferocious individual that cannot be controlled once it goes on a rampage.

「Why is there a King Lizard in a place like this!?」

「T-that’s what Jet-Black Fang seemed to have tamed by some miracle…… Damn, I’ve never heard of such a thing even being possible!!」

A nearby Adventurer told us so.

「Rein!」

「Yeah!」

In the past, there was no way I could do anything against a formidable opponent such as King Lizard.

Even if Arios and the others were present by my side, we would not be able to do anything against it.

But I’m different now.

Because Kanade is right here by my side.

It has nothing to do with the fact that she’s a member of the Cat Spirit Tribe or anything like that.

I just felt like I could do anything as long as Kanade is here with me.

That’s why……

We are going to take care of this thing!

「Let’s go, Kanade!」

「Nyan!」

Saying so, the two of us charge forward.

SWOOSH!!!

Avoiding a blow from its giant tail, we strike one of its limbs that were supporting its giant body.

I push out my fist with all of my might…… and there was an impact!

The King Lizard roared as it felt a definite response from that blow.

「Wh-What!?」

The Adventurers and soldiers were both astonished.

「Did they manage to damage that King Lizard!?」

「Besides, with his bare hands…… Kid, are you really a newbie Adventurer!?」

「That’s it! Keep at it!」

Kanade jumped in the air and spun around.

She then utilized that spin to punch King Lizard straight in the head!

「GUGYAAAAAAHHHHHH!?」

As expected of a beast of such caliber…… Should I really be thinking that here?

Kanade’s devastating blow caused King Lizard to stagger in pain.

「For now…… How about you go back to sleep!?」

As it staggered, I also got ready to kick it where it would hurt.

And so, I delivered a mighty blow to the side of its neck.

King Lizard could not endure the attack that reaped his consciousness and collapsed on the spot.

「Fuuh……」

「Alright, Rein! You did it!」

「Yeah, it seems so.」

We then exchanged high fives with Kanade.

However, the Adventurers and soldiers alike still looked pale.

In fact, they looked so pale as if they saw a ghost or something like that, and were about to collapse at any moment.

「What happened?」

「Ah, ahhh…… T-That thing…… It’s still……!!」

The thing that the Adventurers were pointing towards was……

「GYIIISSSHHHAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!」

Yet another King Lizard.

What’s more, it was not alone, but there were at least a couple of them.

「Seriously? How many of them were those guys keeping as pets?」

「Unyah…… This might be really troublesome.」

「It might be so, but there’s nothing we can do about it, right?」

「What about you, Rein?」

「I’m fine. How about you?」

「H-Hey, what the hell…… What are you guys even talking about? If you don’t hurry and run away quickly, you’ll die, you know!?」

The Adventurers appealed to us with desperate expressions on their faces.

It seems that the unexpected reinforcements have shaken them and they couldn’t really see the situation quite clearly.

「What would escaping from here right now grant us?」

「Uhh, umm, that’s……」

「It’s okay. We’ll take care of the King Lizards. In the meantime, everyone please evacuate to safety.」

「That’s…… We cannot abandon you, guys! If we did that, then that would be……!」

「It’s fine, nya!」

Kanade laughed out loud.

I laughed as well.

「We shall take care of this before you even know it.」

The Adventurers and soldiers frantically escaped from the cave with the captured bandits in tow.

Actually, I wouldn’t care if they just escaped while leaving those bandits in here.

But they couldn’t do that. And we cannot make them sacrifice themselves for us, either.

At the very least, we all have our own duties that we must all fulfill.

They might have been trembling with fear, but they still took the bandits outside, doing what was required of them.

And just like that, everyone managed to successfully evacuate.

「Haah, haah, haah…… W-What about those two……?」

The Adventurers looked towards the entrance of the cave.

They could faintly hear the sound of a struggle inside.

This meant that they were still fighting.

This also meant that they were still alive.

The Adventurers were relieved to know this, but……

None of them had the courage to go back and support them.

After all, there was nothing they could possibly do against such monsters.

All they could do was to pray for their safety.

「Please… Please, God, be safe back there……!」

It’s been several years since some of them had become Adventurers.

During that time, they have never prayed to God, not even once, but……

Only this time, from the bottom of their heart, they prayed to God for the safety of those two.

And then……

The sounds of fighting from the depths of the cave stopped.

Guess this means that the battle was over.

But who managed to emerge victorious from it?

If you think about it normally, it would probably be those King Lizards.

There was no way that an amateour Adventurer would be able to take multiple King Lizards head-on.

They would surely be overrun and overpowered in a matter of seconds.

Nobody showed up after waiting for several minutes.

But when despair began to drift in the air,

Someone raised a voice.

「I hear footsteps!」

Two people’s footsteps could be heard echoing in the distance.

And eventually……

The two who remained in the cave showed up, looking as though they were completely fine.

Seeing the two of them, those who were present let out a loud cheer.
