CHAPTER 90: APPREHENSION

I have found the poachers.

Having done that, I quickly severed the link to the assimilated rabbit and returned to my original body.

「Found them!」

「Fugnyah!?」

Kanade jumped up and turned her tail upside down from both shock and surprise.

「What the, what the, what the……!? What is going on!?」

「Ah…… S-Sorry about that. Did I scare you?」

「Yes, yes you did! You almost scared the living fur out of my tail! Please don’t come back so suddenly like that!」

Looking at it now, I really must have given Kanade quite a scare.

She was so startled that her eyes were literally filled with tears.

「But getting there normally is way too bothersome!」

It would really help here if instead of complaining all the time Tanya would just focus on running forward.

However, it was also true that we might not be able to make it in time if we were to keep on proceeding like that.

It seems to have decided that it wouldn’t be able to take on the group of four men and it was running away from them as fast as it could.

Only, its body was wounded and bleeding all over.

Right now, we had to prioritize the safety of the Horn Wolf over the capture of the poachers!

「Boost!」

I cast an ability-enhancing spell on myself.

My body becomes as light as a feather the moment I did that.

I kicked the tree trunk and leapt forward with all my might.

Being ejected like a cannonball……

I was able to land between the poachers and the Horn Wolf.

At that exact moment, the poachers released the arrows from their short bows.

There were three of them in total.

I stood my ground, creating a sort of flesh wall between the poachers and the Horn Wolf……

And then I grabbed two arrows in the air to stop them, and kicked the remaining one out of the wolf’s way.

「What the……!?」

The appearance of a sudden intruder startled the poachers and caused a stir among them.

「Don’t panic! Formation up!」

Surprisingly enough, the poachers quickly regained their composure and got back on their feet.

Seemingly recognizing me as an enemy, they took up their bows and arrows again and……

BOOM!

「Huh!?」

All of a sudden, there was an explosion nearby and the poachers were all blown up in an instant.

Each of them was knocked to the ground and passed out as a result.

「Oh my goodness, is it already over?」

Tanya came down from the sky, her wings buzzing.

Oh, yeah. That’s right.

That explosion was the result of Tanya’s fireball.

As expected, the poachers did not seem to be on alert for the enemies that might lurk in the sky, and the poachers seemed to have been hit by Tania’s blow in a clean and merciless way, unable to do anything about it.

It seems that one fireball was more than enough here, and fortunately enough, their wounds have been pretty shallow, so there was nothing that would put their lives at risk.

Saying that, Kanade puffed out her chest, looking all proud of herself.

「Kanade…… If possible, I would like you to make extra sure in the future that someone who you are about to punch the lights out of is a bad guy, alright?」

「But a base camp, you say? In that case, he must have been left there so that he could guard the place while others were away. Either way, good job with bringing him here, Kanade.」

「Ehehehe, getting praised by Rein sure feels the best♪!」

「Hey, Rein! Wait just a moment! I’m the one who shot down a whole group of those poachers, remember!?」

「Yeah, yeah. And I thank you for that as well, Tanya. You did great.」

「I-Is that so? W-Well, as long as you understand, then everything is good.」

「Sora, Luna. Can you use your magic to capture these guys?」

「Sure thing!」

「Fufufu! Just leave it to us.」

Well, one way or another, we were able to deal with the poachers, so it was all great.

Now, the only thing that was left here to do was……

The wounded Horn Wolf bared its fangs at us and let out a low growl.

Maybe it decided that it couldn’t escape and was determined to have its last stand right here and right now.

Nina patted the Horn Wolf on the head.

The Horn Wolf spilled out a spoiled squeal and got down on the spot.

Confirming this, Nina turned around.

Nina smiled brightly.

「Somehow…… You sounded just like a Beast Tamer out there, Nina.」
