CHAPTER 95 PART 2

「Rein, that’s so sweet of you……」

「Goodness gracious, talk about a goody-two-shoes approach. Oh well, not that I think that there’s something wrong with that……」

Even though that line of thinking might have been incredibly naive on my end……

Everyone was smiling at me, as if reassuring me that I was thinking the right thing.

As long as everyone understands this, that’s fine by me.

「So that’s it? That’s the reason? Self-righteousness……?」

「I don’t care what you are going to call it. But the fact remains that I want to save the Horn Wolves from going extinct.」

「I feel like I’m going to get a heart-burn from all this sweetness……」

Ogg spat those words as if he was about to throw up.

Although Kreutz didn’t say anything, the fact that he was glaring at us in the same way as Ogg was, his heart must have felt more or less the same as his partner’s.

「So…… Are you ready to talk about why you did this? Or maybe not?」

「…… There was just no way that we were ever going to accept this. There was no way that we would ever accept defeat from the hands of some stupid rookie who became an Adventurer only a month ago.」

「You don’t deserve to be granted an important request such as this. That is why it was only natural for us to take it over from you. Because we are your seniors!」

「Now listen here……」

Whoever would catch the poachers first would win.

I thought we had a deal like that, even though I thought that it was pretty stupid.

But once they lost, they immediately started to complain and tried to accuse us of cheating.

To me, it seemed that those two had little to no pride at all in being Adventurers.

Even right now, to me it seemed as though they had little to no remorse about what they had done.

So I can’t just let them go scot-free for what they have done.

Because if we won’t punish them properly right now and make them realize that what they have done was wrong, they might try a stunt like that in the future as well. And that could have potentially crushing repercussions.

「So I am going to report that matter to the Guild. You can count on that.」

Because it is also the Guild’s job to mediate in the quarrels between Adventurers.

Double bookings quite like this one are supposed to be rare and few and far between, but……

It is not so uncommon, apparently, for many different factors to cause disputes between Adventurers.

If Adventurers fight with each other, not only will the number of request that are being picked up and completed is going to deplete, but also the trust that the people put in the Adventurers’ Guild would also deteriorate.

The Guild’s authority would also fall as the rumor would start to spread that they are unable to properly control their own people.

As a result, the guild will not receive any more requests from the people, and Adventurers would lose their jobs, and so on and so forth.

To prevent this from happening, the Guild would have to prohibit quarrels between Adventurers in general.

Even if a dispute would break out, there was also no way that Adventurers would go as far as to kill one another because of them.

So this situation must be reported to the Guild no matter what.

The Guild will then make a fair and impartial decision.

By doing so, the Guild manages and guides the Adventurers properly.

It is hard to imagine that the Guild would make an unfair decision here in this particular case.

Ogg and Kreutz will be punished appropriately for their misdeeds.

「God damn it…… We are going to remember that!」

「We will never forgive you for this humiliation!」

「Yeah? Because I already forgot all about it.」

Because those people are hardly even worth being remembered.

I guess that my attitude must have made them feel more and more angry, but it’s their problem to figure out, not mine.

It also seemed to hurt their self-esteem in a really bad way, so much that their faces were cringing really hard.

But again, I guess that serves them right.

「Alright then. Sora, Luna, and Nina. We are going to leave those chumps in your care. For the time being, we are going to go and interrogate the poachers.」

「Umu! Just leave things here to us!」

We then left both Ogg and Kreutz in the care of our three companions and we went to see the poachers, who were all immobilized a short distance away from where we were.

「I’m sorry for keeping you guys waiting.」

「We have decided to take you guys straight to the Guild. Then you’ll be handed over to the Knights Order and they will know what to do with you.」

「But before we do that, I need to ask you something. It’s about the people you are dealing with.」

「Where were you taking your potential catches? Who were you dealing with?」

The poachers just remained silent.

They wouldn’t even make eye contact with me.

It was quite a painful experience, being ignored like that and them being so uncooperative.

But if that’s the case, then what are we going to do?

I’m not very good at interrogation or anything like that.

I mean, I have never really done it before.

I could surely scare the living crap out of them, but how do I break their spirit enough to make those poachers willing to talk?

There was a loud thump, and I could feel a powerful tap on my shoulder.

And then a loud, thick wild cry.

I turned around and saw a bear standing right behind me.

「Uwah!?」

「Nyah!?」

「What the!? An enemy!?」

「No, no, no! Wait! It’s not the enemy! It’s fine!」

This is the bear that I tamed not all that while ago.

Come to think of it, I was still having that bear under a temporary contract, as I completely forgot to release it.

I guess it came after us for new orders.

However, I have no new orders to give to it.

We are heading back to town now, so I don’t really need it to carry anything for us.

I’m going to terminate the temporary contract here and…… Wait?

…… that could actually be really useful.

I chuckled and looked at the confused poachers.

「By the way, this might actually be going a little bit off topic, but I happen to be a Beast Tamer, you know? And just now…… I have this bear tamed under my command.」

There was a visible change on the poachers’ faces.

I think they understood my point well enough now.

「And you know what? Bears are incredibly powerful creatures, did you know?　And people’s bones are oh-so incredibly easy to break. If you were to be hit by it or bitten by it, I guess it would hurt an awful lot.」

「Hyiih……!?」

「What would happen if I canceled the temporary contract here? It’s only a guess, but that bear might actually come after you guys, since you are unable to move or run away. But it’s not like that’s actually my problem. You don’t want to tell me anything, so I guess I can just leave you here to your fate, huh? Surely you won’t have a problem with that, right?」

「H-Huh!? N-Noo, this is…… umm……!」

「Now then…… What do you think I should do?」

I flashed a really nasty smile at the poachers.

「Rein, you can be a real monster when you want to be…… Even I would never think to intimidate someone like that.」

「Talk about a Devilish Tamer!」
