Chapter 64 Part 1
Information About Eve And Twilight-related Jobs. And The Tedious Exploration of The Second Floor
「By the way…」
Sybilla stares at Eve while we all descend from the pyramid on the second floor.
「W-What’s up?」
「Even though I could tell that Eve-chan is a girl at first glance, there was one thing I forgot to confirm. This is just my guess, but… you have received a Job from the Goddess, haven’t you, Eve-chan?」
「Ah… well, I have, yeah. It was right after the adults disappeared from our church, and since I had some knowledge about it, when a voice suddenly told me 【Assassin】 level 1, I was like, “So this is my Job, huh?”. Though just now, the same woman’s voice told me that my level went up to level 6.」
Assassin… I see, that explains how she was able to make those moves earlier.
It’s said that it’s possible to fight in the first dungeon without the blessing of one’s job but to think that she showed such overwhelming skills against the monsters of the second dungeon.
「Heeh~ so it really was Assassin just as I thought. Come to think of it, one of the members in 『Swift Thunder』 that we met when we went to conquer the third dungeon of Seiris was an evasion tank Assassin, wasn’t it? That’s an excellent Job that can take you to the top, so make sure to train well and level it up, okay?」
「For real!? Let’s gooo!! I promise I’ll train hard!」
Eve pumped her fist and jumped up in excitement as she went to talk to Emmy.
It looks like we’re taking it easy, but Sybilla is actively using her search magic to scout for enemies, so unless she abruptly stops, it’s safe to assume that there’s no danger.
But then, it occurred to me.
「Hey Sybilla, is the 【Twilight Sorcerer】Job can only be obtained by converting Priest and Saint?」
「Nn? Hmm~ that’s not necessarily the case. But Priests are the closest to 『Inversion』, you see. It’s close to a feeling of using the force from the height difference to make a complete change at once. It’s like, 『The higher you fall, the deeper you sink into the lake』, I suppose?」
The higher you fall, the deeper you sink, huh?
Honestly, I still don’t understand the logic behind it, but that expression makes it easier to understand how it works.
「Besides, there are other Jobs to change into besides 【Twilight Sorcerer】, you know? The way this works is, that it changes the job’s characteristics into one that’s geared towards taking other’s life. But… it’s not easy to go through this change.」
「What does that mean?」
「You know『magic』 works by using the magic power inside one’s body, right? On the other hand, close-combat jobs, including warriors, draw the power of their jobs from the 『body』. Therefore, the burden of the conversion is placed on the body. As a result, if the conversion fails, then…」
「Then?」
Sybilla didn’t answer right away, but looked away and I could see the hesitation in her gaze.
Could it be that the conversion to other Twilight-related jobs is far more dangerous than I imagined?
That means, in the past, Sybilla has probably…
As I stared at her, Sybilla wrinkled her eyebrows as if she had given in, and muttered…
「They were screaming in extreme pain when we were still in the middle of it. And at that point, I just stopped the conversion process.」
After hearing that… I breathed a sigh of relief.
「…What’s with that face?」
「No, it’s just that I thought they died, gone missing, or lost their blessings altogether instead if that happened.」
「As if I would do something so dangerous!? In the first place, I only do it to people who want to be converted you know!」
「Right, well, forget I said anything.」
I gave a brief reply and ended the conversation with Sybilla, who crossed her arms looking a little offended.
Emmy and Eve turned to me and tilted their heads, but I shook my head and said it was nothing.
……What, I’m just a little relieved.
I knew you wouldn’t put others in danger just to convert their jobs to Twilight-related jobs.
Of course, I knew from the start you wouldn’t do something like that, but being able to say it outright makes a world of difference.
Still, the 『Twilight Goddess』 and other Twilight-related Jobs, huh?
I’m curious to know what other kinds of Jobs there are, but… it’s just me the 【Twilight Sorcerer】 for now.
I might be the only one with Twilight-related Job now, but I’ll make sure to work hard on behalf of the rest of them.
After walking for a while, we came to a wall
It was a plain, flat, empty wall.
Everyone sighed tiredly at the dead end which we had kind of expected.
「What do you think, Sybilla?」
「I think everyone has guessed it already, but this shitty dungeon is probably just a square-shaped room with nothing but a pyramid.」
The fact that both Emmy and Eve laughed at that expression, I guess we all have indeed imagined the same structure for this second floor.
When viewed from above, this second floor is just an absurdly large square room with one huge pyramid in the middle.
Apart from that, there’s nothing at all, not even walls.
Putting it in one word, it’s messy… but the level of troublesomeness is one of the worst things about it.
We have nothing to rely on in finding a way out.
There’s no immediate danger, but our biggest enemy is probably 『a sense of futility』.
「Russell, just when you feel like it is fine, but please keep casting your chantless the extra-heal link regularly.」
「Roger」
「Emmy-chan, I want you to run alongside me.」
「Y-yes.」
After telling her that, Sybilla immediately started running.
Emmy hurriedly followed suit, and after a moment of eye contact, Eve and I started running after them.
After running for a while, Eve suddenly mumbled, 「By the way」.
「Sybilla-san and Emmy-san are kicking the ground on four corners of the pyramid, but… what was that all about?」
That was the first instruction Sybilla gave Emmy after she had defeated all the monsters earlier.
Emmy tilted her head in puzzlement at first but decided that since it was something that Sybilla said, it must have some sort of meaning, so she did as Sybilla asked and kicked the pyramid’s wall stones as hard as she could in several places.
Satisfied with the results, Sybilla descended the pyramid and began inspecting the ground of the second floor we’re standing on right now (although “ground” is a strange term to use here*).
The reason behind her action, huh?
