Fiancée of the Wizard Volume 8 Extra Story 2 – Our Treasure
—Perhaps I was dreaming.
The boy still thought so sometimes. He was once called 『Noct』, and now named 『Estrella』 .
At that moment, Estrella was quietly peeking at his “mother” who was reading her book on a bench in the central garden from in a tree’s shadow. She——Filmina was flipping the pages of the book with a calm expression.
I could simply call her, just one call. That his “father”——Agedilus was calling her. He only needed to say so. Yet, somehow, he hesitated to do so. Oh no. What should I do? While being unable to make up his mind, the boy froze there on the spot. Then, Filmina lifted her gaze from the book in her hands to the boy suddenly.
「Oh, Estra? 」
Her voice was a gentle one, as if it was wrapping him with a feather-filled Japanese-styled mattress that had been just sunned outside. Her voice contained endearing love that was undoubtable. Being called by his nickname, the boy jolted his body unintentionally. Then, the boy fearfully looked at Filmina. She smiled and waved him over. Her hands moved as if it was a butterfly. While being captivated by her hand’s movement, the boy ran to his “mother’s” side.
「What happened, mother. Father had called for you, so you should hurry go to him」
「Oh, is it? But, it is such a nice weather today. So, a little bit more……」
「No matter how warm it is today, you might catch a cold」
「……You are really similar to Edi, huh」
With a voice that was filled with love more than exasperation, Filmina giggled. Estrella did not know how to reply to her, and simply fell silent. Looking up at him, Filmina pointed at the side of the bench she was sitting on.
「It is such a great opportunity. Let’s sunbath together」
It was extremely difficult for the boy to go against her gentle temptation. In the back of his mind, he apologized to his “father”. Then, reluctantly, Estrella sat down at one end of the bench. Filmina smiled happily. He felt very ticklish seeing her smile.
A bright beautiful ray of spring’s sunshine poured into the central garden. Gradually, Estrella’s eyelids naturally become heavier. Filmina seemed to notice the boy’s current state and softly touched his shoulder. Then, she placed the book she had been placing on her lap onto the side. Now, she tapped her lap which was now vacant.
Estrella froze again, comparing Filmina’s smile and her lap. He was not so dense to not know what she wanted to say. That was why all the more, he could not help but feel troubled. At the “son’s” response that could not be described as favorable, the “mother” did not seem to give up. Instead, she smiled in a teasing way.
「If you have any complaints about my lap, shall I call Edi? You can borrow his lap」
It was an outlandish proposal. Surely the only person “father” would obediently lend his lap to would be “mother”. Be that as it may, she still made such a proposal. That meant that in her mind, lending her lap……letting him sleep on her lap was a decision already made.
Estrella gulped down some saliva. Then, he gently laid his body horizontally onto the bench. Then, he laid his head on Filmina’s lap. At this warm soft feeling, the boy’s vision became blurry.
「Good night, Estra」
Her hands gently combed his hand. Upon her encouragement, Estrella closed his eyes.
——If this was a dream, I hope I would never wake up.
Leaving such an earnest wish, the boy’s mind dived into the deepest parts of his consciousness.
「No matter how long I waited, he would not come back, then sleeping here huh. How brave of him」
「Hehe, aren’t you jealous? Would you want to join him as well? Although my lap is occupied, there, my shoulder is vacant just for you」
「……then I shall gratefully borrow your shoulder」
The “wolf boy” continued sleeping, not knowing of this secret interaction between us. Eventually, when he woke up, he would realize that he was in a reality that was more like a dream than any dream.
