She stroked its smooth surface with her fingers. It had an iridescent colour, it was that of the opal it was a beautiful orb giving off silver light. It wasn’t a big orb at all but because of the power put into it, it had a powerful presence that could surpass any gemstone.

I get it now, the man was interested in it because it was the magical orb made by the priest princess who had received the divine protection of the goddess. This man goes to extremes when it comes to research and this magical orb that is the only one of its kind must be a really interesting research material for him.

Why did the princess take out something like this in a situation like this? I stayed silent looking at the princess, the princess took the orb into her hand. Her expressionless face changed and a smile that was like a lily blooming spread across her face. The youth’s left eye widened and he froze right there. Heinrich seemed as if he was enchanted and he kept gazing at the princess, the princess put her hand on his chin and used the other hand to bring the orb closer to his right eye.

「Heinrich Jado Roberts. I’ll reward you for your loyalty to me. Anyone who can be replaced can’t be my attendant.」

Her words were those that I had heard from the youth Heinrich when he was telling us about how he met the princess. Heinrich gasped and without waiting for Heinrich’s reply the princess muttered something. It was the name of the goddess that is forbidden for an ordinary person to utter. The names of gods give rise to power even if they are just spoken out and if it is uttered by the princess who is the priest princess then it is obvious that it’ll have an impact on the world.

It was like something falling into still water, without making a sound the orb emitting bright white light got sucked into the youth’s cavity. His sunken cavity swell up like the dough and his newly formed eye lashes quivered in the air.

「Go ahead, open up your eyes. Can your right eye capture my image?」

「Ye,s.」 The youth, Heinrich nodded awkwardly anyone could tell that he was enchanted by what had happened to him. His lashes quivered again. He lazily and slowly, to an extent I grew impatient opened up his eyelid. It wasn’t bright green as it was before, it’s colour was that of the princess’ orb, it was a big, beautiful opal eye that showed different colours when the light reflected on it with different intensity. That eye gazed straight at the princess and eventually he narrowed his eyes as if he was looking at something bright and precious. Heinrich put his hand on his right eye to see if it was there and then he put his hand on the left side of his chest where the heart is and bowed his head down.

「Thank you very much, princess Clementine. I swear upon this eye and on my life that I will pledge my eternal loyalty to you.」 Those words were an oath. The princess nodded back at him from the higher ground. The youth Heinrich lifted his head up, I wonder how I can define the emotions held by his expression. It was calm but that wasn’t the only thing, it had a solid resolve as well as it had a hint of happiness. Naturally, I got captivated by that and Heinrich’s odd coloured eyes suddenly pointed towards me.

「―Now that we are done, back to business. Let us talk about the gang of assailants that attacked us previously. What do you think about it, Filmina-dono?」

「What?」

My mind stopped working due to the sudden change in the situation. It wouldn’t hurt to feel more sentimental, you know? But it seemed like neither princess nor Heinrich wanted that.

「Let’s see, it seemed to me that they were after the princess…」

I continued with the silence that I didn’t know anything more about it, the youth Heinrich nodded to my response.

「Yes, indeed. In simpler terms they are the medium extremist faction of this city.」

His tone was peaceful as usual but the content of his speech wasn’t peaceful at all.  I had my eyes wide open with surprise but the youth didn’t tend to my curiosity immediately. He laughed with his mouth shut as he touched his beautiful right eye and let out a breath.

「Dare I say that it is as expected from the priest princess, my vision has literally expanded more than ever.」

The youth’s eyes shone and changed colours. 「That’s obvious」 the princess nodded. 「It will function as a normal eye and also give you the ability to detect spirits.」

「I see, but was it fine to give something as important as that to someone like me?」

「…..It was inevitable since it’s a token of gratitude.」 To Heinrich’s query, the princess gave a short reply somewhat spitefully.

 「Is that so.」

Heinrich replied and didn’t dare to inquire any further. It is a rare thing for the princess to give someone her grace. The princess gave her blessings on our wedding but that was because the man was the head of the court magicians, was one of the champions who had saved the world and above all, it was because he was one of the princess’ friends. It’s said that the princess’s abilities are for the common people but then it isn’t something that should come cheap. Princess understood that well and upon knowing that she gave the magical orb to the youth. The princess said that it was a token of gratitude. But is it just me who feels like it isn’t just for the fact that Heinrich protected her by putting his life in danger but also because he stopped her from using her powers in a state of rage?

Not knowing about any of my speculations the youth continued with a gentle smile on his face , 「It’s something that I had made the shadow investigate beforehand. It seems like the people of this land don’t harbor good opinions, be it more or less about the princess and the medium’s marriage. We think that the extremist faction among them had devised the assault earlier. Their ideology is that the medium should be given more importance than the princess and that they aren’t satisfied with the medium being a mere king consort. Among the extremists, there are also the ones who fear that the benefits Azure Desert has would fade away if the medium moves to the royal capital. I think the bandits who attacked us on our way here are a faction of the extremists. Although we can’t blame it all on the extremist faction since the citizens here aren’t seriously trying to capture the bandits and the assailants who assaulted the princess previously.」

「That, is…..」 I didn’t know what to say. The man was listening to Heinrich’s story as if it was something uninteresting and it seems like I’m the only one who is surprised. And that gave it a sense of reality. So to sum it up, Heinrich story isn’t something to be surprised of for the princess and the man and that it was something they had already foreseen. I remained silent and the princess gave a bitter smile accompanied by a shrug.

「Well, it isn’t an uncommon scenario. It’s like watching a third-class play.」

「Princess, the language.」

「Oh, pardon me.」

Finally, the princess smiled and that smile turned into a pleasant laugh. All Heinrich could do was smile bitterly at the princess’ reaction. I could hear that the man next to me had let out a small sigh. It feels like I’m the only one unable to catch up.

「So, has his majesty the king and Heinrich brought princess here knowing how dangerous it is?」

If that’s the case then isn’t it an inconsiderate thing to do? The princess in her teens was burdened with the obligation to defeat the demon lord, a burden that was too heavy for someone of her age then carry and albeit her being successful at it, once again they are putting under a huge burden. According to Heinrich, if it’s the “Princess” that it is an obvious burden to carry. That’s how people are ruled and an obvious obligation that a royal has to carry out and if they say it like that then I wouldn’t be able to talk back. But even so, I wouldn’t agree with it, there is no way I would agree to it.

My gaze full of criticism got directed at Heinrich and he took it from the front and smiled at me. “What are you saying after all this” I felt like his expressions were saying that.
