｢Filmina!｣
I was spending my free time reading a book in the room given to me and suddenly the door burst open, my shoulders shrugged in surprise and looked up. I gave a bitter smile and closed the book looking at the person standing there all out of breath.
｢My, Snow-sama, again?｣
｢Yeah. So, hide me today as well!｣
I had taught him that it was unacceptable to enter a lady’s room without knocking but it seemed like the medium didn’t care about such a thing and came invading my room. The medium didn’t have to close the door himself since a palm-sized spirit with rainbow-coloured wings appeared and closed the door enthusiastically for him. The medium took its service as something natural and he slid under the tablecloth. I lifted it up while sitting on the chair, the medium got surprised and begged me to let it go and to close it quickly. I put the tablecloth back to how it was before and when the medium was hidden completely, there was a knock on the door.
｢Excuse me, Filmina-dono.｣
The person who opened the door before I could answer- the person was none other than the youth Heinrich, I stood up and bowed at him. It was good to knock but what about opening up the door before getting the permission? But considering his trouble, I can’t blame him for that.
｢Good day Heinrich-sama. What seems to be the problem?｣
｢Did the medium come here? We were in the middle of the lesson but he ran away again.｣
｢That’s quite troubling. So, he ran away again.｣
｢Yes, again.｣
The youth parroted my line sarcastically. Yes, this is how things are lately. The problem that’s giving us a headache. The medium attends the lessons he wants to learn but makes excuses or runs away from the lessons he doesn’t like for example politics taught by Heinrich. It really is troubling. And for the reference, it’s the latter this time. Heinrich has a calm smile but it seems like his limits are being pushed. His silent aura is putting pressure on me as if he is threatening me to answer. It really is scary. But the sight of a consul of the purple peony court being pushed around by a child like this is quite fun… no, never mind. Leaving everything aside, I tilted my head at the youth as I have been doing for the past few days.
｢I have no idea.｣
｢Is that so?｣
The youth looked around the room with his bright green eye. His eyes squinted and I felt chills up my spine and the youth sighed after a while.
｢As soon as you find the medium, tell him to come to me. Now, excuse me.｣
Heinrich bowed and left the room after smiling calmly. Some time passed after the door was closed and after a long wait, the medium took his head out of the tablecloth.
｢Is he gone?｣
｢Yes.｣
｢I see.I was saved again. You can have my gratitude, Filmina.｣
The medium smiled and came out from under the table, he looked adorable, like a small animal. How good it would have been if it was just hide and seek and not him running away from Heinrich’s lesson. As the medium said again, this isn’t the first time the medium came running to me. I know that it isn’t a good thing but I was unable to reject him and I hid him from Heinrich’s eyes again. I repeat, I know that it isn’t a good thing. I know it well that it is causing Heinrich trouble and I know it well that it isn’t good for the medium either. But as I said before, how wonderful the lesson might be, it would be useless considering the medium’s personality if this boy doesn’t want to learn.If we were to force him, he’d just grow more stubborn.
To back up my claim, he is learning everything from my lesson and the man’s lesson at an astonishing speed but he doesn’t seem to have learned much from Heinrich’s lessons on politics. I have heard that he keeps falling asleep during his lessons and keeps getting scolded by Heinrich and that makes me think more that it all depends on the medium’s will to learn. But I know that I can’t be soft to him like this. I couldn’t help but wish for an opportunity of some sort to make him learn, for the sake of Heinrich and for the sake of the medium.
｢Snow-sama, it’s probably a good time for you to attend Heinrich-sama’s lessons properly.｣
｢Not you too, Filmina. His lessons aren’t fun at all.I don’t have any interest in politics. I just want to eat sweets with you and play with my friends along with Agedilus.｣
｢Snow-sama…..｣
I wonder if my tone gave away that I was baffled a bit. The medium’s words were that of a child. The medium who had just turned twelve sounded much younger than his age when interacting like this. It is cute but he can’t get away like this acting like a child.
｢If you are to seek asylum then you can seek it from Edi, would it be good?｣
Considering our previous interaction, it seemed like Heinrich had doubts about me. It is a matter of time before he finds out that the medium uses my room as his hiding place. I spoke up because I thought it would be better to secure a different hiding place before that happens but the medium shook his head at my suggestion and pouted.
｢Agedilus is no good, he rats me out to Heinrich without hesitating…..｣
｢So you were here as I suspected.｣
｢｢!?｣｣
A voice suddenly came between our conversation and the medium and I looked at the owner of the voice. Heinrich was standing with the door behind his back. He was smiling, his smile was very calm, a smile that could make the ladies think only in a positive light about him, a harmless and extremely attractive smile. But why is it that the smile was really scary for me? Heinrich walked towards the medium and I who were frozen like statues, he grabbed the medium’s arm firmly and looked into his face with a smile.
｢I had been letting you to till today but this is the end of it. Let’s go your highness. Filmina-dono, we need to have a little chat later so, get ready for that.｣
｢O….ok.｣
｢Filminaa…..｣
I shook my head at the medium who was calling out for help in a pitiful voice and I Joined by hands together in prayer inside my heart. You need to give up now. I am powerless now. On top of that a talk 『later』 awaits me. Ah the stomach ache.
｢Good luck, your highness.I’ll prepare tea for you when the lesson ends.｣
｢~~~~~I don’t want to!｣
｢Hng!｣
As the medium shouted the water burst out of the pitcher in my tea set and turned into fish. The fish made from swam using their long tails and tackled Heinrich without any mercy. Heinrich got all wet and loosened his grin, the medium took the opportunity and freed his arm and ran out of the room. The fish made from water swam in circles on Heinrich’s head and turned into water as if to say it was a bonus. There was a large splash and Heinrich sat on the ground due to the force of the water. He had water all over his head.
I rushed towards him and gave him a handkerchief.
｢He…Heinrich-sama….are you fine?｣
｢Do I seem fine to you?｣
The youth answered my question with a question while wiping his head with the handkerchief. His voice was calm as usual and that made things scarier. Heinrich gave back the handkerchief to me who had frozen again. The youth Heinrich stood up and pushed up his hair. He shook his head to dry his head and looked at the direction the medium had run away letting out a sigh.
｢It isn’t the age to play hide and seek, tag and definitely no age to play with water.｣
I couldn’t decide if that was directed at the medium or at himself or both. His squinted bright green eyes were looking at something distant. Eventually his gaze came upon me. I shrugged with fear reflexively and the youth smiled at my reaction.
｢So, Filmina-dono. Let us talk later, in depth.｣
The youth said that and left towards the door. He was walking while water was dripping off from his body and it made it harder for me to say anything to him. I watched him leave the room and started thinking about the conversation we were going to have later, I couldn’t do anything but let out a deep sigh.
