It was a sweet aroma tickling my nostrils. The special herb tea that my husband blends is usually a medicine that makes me calm in an instance but this time it wasn’t enough to do that. I was about to let out a sigh for who knows how many times. Aah, it’s melancholic. It seemed like my worries were pretty obvious, the princess tilted her head holding an empty teacup in her hand.
「Filmina, is there something wrong? You seem pretty gloomy.」
「No, it isn’t something worth your worry, princess. More importantly, would you like to have more tea?」
「…..I’ll have some.」
I poured herb tea into her cup and smiled at her. She opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something but she didn’t inquire any further.
This is my problem and my responsibility. I can’t just cling to the princess and sob. The thing that’s giving me a head is obviously the lecture I’m going to get from the youth Heinrich.
I was waiting in the room all timid and scared thinking about what kind of talk Heinrich is going to have with me. I tried reading but the content of the book didn’t enter my head, it was then that the princess invited me and that is how I came to have tea with the princess. I am grateful for her invitation and it elevated my mood a bit up from the melancholy like a balloon rising. But If you asked me whether I could enjoy the tea fully, then it would be a different story altogether.
I drank the tea in order to swallow the sigh that was about to escape, the princess interlaced her fingers on the table and put her chin on top of that, and stared at me. Her amber coloured eyes up close were beautiful without any doubt. I gasped at its beauty and the princess lowered her bow-shaped eyebrows worriedly.
「The reason behind your gloom is Heinrich, isn’t it?」
Her sentence structure was that of a question but it seemed like she already knew the cause. I couldn’t either deny or affirm it and all I could do was keep my silence. It seemed like princess saw through everything I wanted to say and muttered annoyedly, 「That man can’t be saved…..」
「I’m sorry, although he is like that it isn’t like he doesn’t have good traits. Although it would be hard to say that he is a good man.」
She loathingly supported the youth, though it really didn’t seem like it. I shook my head at the princess, there was no need for her to apologize.
「As I said before, it isn’t something that you should feel bad about.」
「Thank you but, I wouldn’t be fine with that since I am the one who chose you and introduced you to that man.」
「But that isn’t…..」
No matter how many times I tell her that it isn’t her fault she probably wouldn’t accept that. I was trying hard to say something but the princess didn’t seem to care as she lowered her long, silver eyelashes.
「Heinrich is a man whose foremost priority is me. I don’t know since when but he had become like that when I had noticed.」
She let out a small sigh and she looked more melancholic than I am. I wonder if that sigh contains her feelings for the youth. She is closer to him than one is close to a mere subordinate and that’s also the reason why she doesn’t know how to deal with him.
「Have you known Heinrich-sama for a long time…..?」
「Yeah, he is a veteran among my attendants. There aren’t many people like him that I dislike but I wonder why.」
She shrugged her shoulders and gave a troubled smile. Was she smiling without noticing it. That smile was too frank to be directed at a mere attendant and I couldn’t sense any lies from her playful toke. If he was just a mere, capable attendant then he wouldn’t be able to make the princess smile like this. I gasped at the beauty of her smile, a smile suitable for the girl of her age. The princess eventually stopped smiling and lowered her pretty brows.
「I told you before that Heinrich is someone who prioritizes me above anything else, right? It is to such an extent that he prioritizes me more than I prioritize myself. I knew that you would get hurt because of that but I called you knowing that. I am an unpleasant and selfish woman, don’t you think so?」
I held her hand when she was nodding while degrading herself. She looked up and I could see the surprise in her amber coloured eyes, I looked straight into them and held her hand tightly in my hands. I wonder who she is talking about? I don’t see any unpleasant and selfish woman around me.
「Princess, you are full of elegance and beauty, you are a wonderful lady whose selfishness is that appears seldom is really cute. 」
As much as I know, I can’t think of a lady who’s more wonderful than the princess. I am really proud to be friends with a wonderful lady like her. Heinrich made me realize that I had turned naive, always relying on her, it was something that I needed to realize myself. I don’t even have the right to get hurt at this point. The youth Heinrich had definitely noticed this, conversation with him that awaits me must be about this.
「What kind of a person is Heinrich-sama for you, princess?」
She talks about him in a sarcastic way but what does she think about her attendant who is probably the closest attendant she has. Her eyes shone and the princess blinked a couple of times, it seems like she wasn’t expecting this question, 「Let’s see.」 She muttered and continued, 「Capable, diligent and- a guy that is someone that’s hard to deal with if he turns into your foe.」
「Someone that would be hard to deal with as a foe?」
「I tend to predict what my subordinates want and read even ahead of that before taking any action but Heinrich goes beyond my predictions. He isn’t fun at all. Don’t you think that father had sent me an extremely capable attendant?」
Wonder what’s the meaning behind her glum tone, isn’t someone being hard to deal with as a foe synonymous that is extremely reliable as an ally? Even if the princess didn’t mean it like that, that’s how I heard it. Sorry princess but can you explain that part in detail? I wanted to ask the meaning behind her words like that but before I could ask I heard a voice interrupting our conversation, 「Excuse me.」
Princess took off my hands from her hand and signaled at the maid standing at the side of the door using her eye. She understood what her master wanted and opened the door.
「Thank you for your services, Heinrich.」
Upon hearing her words Heinrich bowed down and started walking towards us. His attire had changed since his previous attire had gotten all wet due to being assaulted by the water spirits who were trying to protect the medium. He seemed really exhausted, I stood up and gave him my seat along with a teacup.
「Thank you for all the hard work, Heinrich-sama. Would you like to have some tea?」
「–Thank you very much.」
Heinrich sat down and took the herb tea to his mouth. The Princess gave a mean laugh after observing him like that.
「So, tell me. Is the medium’s education progressing well?」
Such an expression on her face is beautiful too, but that question was something that wasn’t only a critical hit for the youth. It was also a critical hit for me. My shoulders quivered and Heinrich gave a bitter smile not noticing my reaction.
「It is progressing but at a sluggish pace. Since there is someone who gives refuge to the medium who runs away from me.」
I looked away from the bright green eye that was directed at me for a moment. Princess laughed at my obvious reaction and the youth shrugged.
「He is quite a handful, the spirits are causing mischief on their own will but he is using that power to escape and nobody in this town seems to scold him.」
Heinrich muttered as if he had even upon people, he let out a small sigh after he drank the herb tea to warm up his cold body.
「He shows dislike for the things that you could easily do at his age, his education is going to take a while.」
「Oh my, so the princess was capable since her childhood?」
「Indeed she was, I was her instructor just like how I am to the medium now but her understanding and ideas were frankly astonishing. She pursued and kept inquiring about the things she didn’t agree with and that gave me a hard time.」
