The assailants tried to move as soon as they were released from the heavy pressure, but at that moment, the magical orb on the man’s staff shone brightly. The medium in my arms seemed to have realized something and raised his head. His copper-red eyes were looking at the magical orb around which a new wind was being formed. It started taking the form of a large bird of prey with a long tail feather. It was different from the wind bird that was summoned by the medium that I witnessed on my way here and different from the small wind birds rampaging inside this room. The man shouted and it responded and materialized using the man’s magic. It was something on a higher dimension compared to the small wind birds, it probably is a wind spirit that has a name as an individual.

The large wind bird sat on the staff the man was holding and gave a loud cry as if to show its mighty presence. It was a cry suitable for its brave form, it was a beautiful cry. Taking that cry as a signal, small wind birds disappeared as if they were knights obeying the king. The man started speaking in magical language from his thin lips as if he was singing and as if to resonate with it the large bird started flapping its wings mightily and that gave rise to the new wind which smashed the assailants against the wall. It was a powerful gust, but albeit that, the medium and I, the princess, and Heinrich just felt a breeze.

「Amazing…」

The medium muttered it in a baffled tone inside my arms. Eventually, the knights and the soldiers guarding the mansion came after hearing the noise and when the leader of the assailants saw it, he silently gave a sign with his hand and carried his companion who had fainted out of the room. The guards who had come into the room took a brief look at the room and immediately pursued the assailants who were running away.  Me, the medium in my arms, the man standing in front of us, in order to protect the youth Heinrich who was kneeling, and the princess looking down at him, were the only ones left in the room.

「Is everyone fine?」

The knights from the royal capital came after everything had happened. After I saw them I felt like my tense body was starting to relax. I loosened my grip holding the medium and sighed with relief and that was the moment when Heinrich fell in front of my eyes.

「Heinrich!」

The princess’ voice that I had never heard before filled the room loudly that was trashed by the assailants.

✳✳✳

The princess’ room, trashed by the assailants couldn’t be used anymore, and a new room meant to be used for the guest of honour was prepared, we all had gathered in that room. The princess and I sat on the chair and the youth Heinrich was laying on the bed with the torso lifted up. The man had cast a spell on the room to keep the people away so there was no way anyone would disturb us or that someone would hear our conversation from outside the room.

The medium had left the room a few moments ago with his female attendant. He was worried about us till the end but it seemed like he couldn’t refuse the attendant who had been taking care of him since he was young and above all, it had shocked him that the place he was in got attacked in this city. His stunned look was so different from the time I met this young boy, the time he was assaulted on the way to this city, it was way different from the impressive and bold appearance that I had to realize again that how young he was.

「I was careless a bit but I am glad to see that you are safe, princess.」

The youth gave a gentle smile after saying that. But, it was because of that gentle smile that the bandages covering his right side of the face looked more painful. His eye seems to have been completely crushed by the assailant’s crescent sword. The youth Heinrich laughed at if it was useless to begin with, and was just laying there in the eye socket without any purpose, but there was no way I could laugh with him. It wasn’t just me who thought of it like that, the princess lifted up her eyebrow in a bad mood.

「It’s amazing how you could say such a thing. Even if it was something of a show it makes a big difference by being there and not being there.」

Her tone had irritability mixed with something like amazement and anger. Her tone was so different from her usual calm tone, but it can be said that even the princess can’t remain indifferent when it comes to an eye lost while protecting her. Even if the words heal by the man’s healing magic, the crushed eye wouldn’t return. Even the magic isn’t an almighty force. The best in the kingdom…..no even if I say the best magician in the world it wouldn’t be an exaggeration when it comes to Edi, even his magic can’t grow his eye back so there isn’t any chance Heinrich would get his eye back. Yet, he smiles calmly as usual.

「It’s obvious that the princess’ well-being needs to be prioritized over my right eye.」

It’s neither sarcasm nor irony. It was also definitely not flattering the princess, but his tone spoke volumes that he was saying what he felt. It doesn’t have any ulterior motives and he is saying what he feels is an obvious thing. Everyone who hears Heinrich’s tone would agree with that. But, it seems like the princess, who was staring at Heinrich, isn’t included in that everyone. Her face that was filled with displeasure turned emotionless. It was a lifeless expression which was more beautiful than a doll made by an endless effort.

「Heinrich, take off the bandages.」

That was an order. She didn’t directly say that she wouldn’t allow him to say no, but the aura princess had was eloquently saying that. Heinrich seemed hesitant and he lowered his left eyebrow.

「There isn’t any pain left and there isn’t any mark left either. It’s all thanks to Agedilus-dono.」 Heinrich’s gaze shifted from the princess sitting on the bedside towards the man standing next to me. He wanted Edi to support him, but he who had healed him and knew his situation well remained silent and didn’t speak up. Edi’s sunrise-tinted eyes that didn’t respond to Heinrich’s bright green eyes got shifted towards the princess. The princess’s eyes with a golden glow gazed at Heinrich’s face.

「Heinrich Jado Roberts.」

「―As you wish.」

Princess’s tone was calm but it also held absolute power. No emotion could be felt from it but it also meant that she was trying to suppress her anger by doing so. After a pause, Heinrich seems to have lost the persistence battle and gave a nod. His hand reached towards the bandage on his right eye and he untied it without a sound.

His sunken eye socket could be seen now. The wound that was a cut from the forehead to the right cheek was nowhere to be seen now. As Heinrich has said earlier there wasn’t a mark left and it was all smooth. But, it made me feel like something was out of place even more. On the contrary to me, who gasped at the sight of his lost eye, the princess who was looking at it up close was calm. She took a look at Heinrich’s right eye for a while and then she took something out of the hidden pocket of her dress and put it on the bed’s side table. It was a small box that could exactly fit on the palm. It was a simple box with a keyhole. Wonder what it could be? I was wondering and my eyes glowed full of curiosity and the man next to me muttered, 「Oh,」 in an impressed tone. It can be said that it is rare for this man to be impressed by something, pure admiration could be felt from his tone. I looked up at the man without giving a second thought, but it seemed like Edi’s eyes were fixed on the box. His gaze was filled with curiosity like that of a boy who had found a new toy. I followed his gaze and looked at the box. The princess pulled up the thread around her neck and took out a small silver key and opened the box while I was looking at it. Inside it was a crimson cushion made of velvet. My eyes glowed again after looking at 『that』on top of the cushion.

「Princess, is that…..?」

「It’s a magical orb that I made with magical power and the divine aura. I always carry it around but this is my first time showing it to someone like this.」
