Heinrich was being too cruel against the medium and against the princess. I couldn’t help but clench my fist and shout. Heinrich reacted to it by narrowing his differently coloured eyes. The expression on his face was speaking volumes, he thinks that I’m naive.
｢Filmina-dono. Why do you think I or Agedilus-dono are here?｣
His tone was that of explaining something to a stubborn child. I couldn’t say anything back. ｢I keep telling you not to mess with Filmina.｣ The princess stopped the youth and then continued, ｢It’s as Heinrich says. I now possess a sword, Agedilus, and a shield, Heinrich. Specifically, Heinrich would come to the best answer in a dire situation even if I don’t say anything. Just like you witnessed previously.｣ The princess said that last part like she didn’t really want to say that, to which the youth Heinrich deepened his smile.
｢To hear such words from none other than the princess, it’s an immense honour for someone like me.｣
in this room but this situation makes me look like a child. A stubborn child who doesn’t know how things work. I felt like I was the pitiful one, I bit my lip and held my hands tightly.
｢Filmina, you are laying a waste to your cute face. You don’t need to worry about it. It’s more than enough for me that you feel like that.｣ All I could do was nod awkwardly to her voice filled with compassion. The princess can be considerate even in a situation like this and what am I doing? I came here all the way to help her out but it’s like I’m the 『someone useless who is just good at talking 』that the princess was talking about.
Aah, what should I do? It isn’t the time to be feeling down but I’m seriously starting to feel gloomy. I can feel the man’s gaze from the side but I can’t smile back at him. The princess put her pale and frail hand on my tightly held hands. The kind warmth made me lift up my head that was looking down and there were amber eyes in front ｢We’ve been together for a long time. It’d be expected from you to do that much wouldn’t it? There is no way I’d make someone useless who is just good at talking to accompany me. The reason I gave you the orb is so that you could be further useful in times to come. Work like a horse for me. You too, Agedilus.｣ Amber eyes turned towards Edi. Upon getting her gaze Edi frowned deeply to show his displeasure.
｢I know. I wouldn’t have needed to act if the princess didn’t involve someone elses wife. The stage has been set for me so I wouldn’t work more than you expect me to.｣
｢Yeah, I trust you with that.｣
｢I’m putting my trust on you, Agedilus-dono.｣
Heinrich and the princess smiled back villainously at the words Edi had uttered in an indifferent tone. I felt like the invisible bond between the man, the princess and the youth was formed on trust. I’m supposed to be more mentally mature than everyoneof me.
｢Hey, Filmina. It’s almost the time for the ablution, so can I ask you to help me out with it?｣
｢Ye, yes!｣
Princess pulled my hand, I stood up without any resistance and my other hand got caught by the man. I glanced next to me and saw the man. He was looking up at me in a grumpy mood.
｢Hey, don’t decide it on…｣
｢An inconsiderate man should keep his mouth shut. Come, let’s go Filmina.｣
We didn’t let the man finish his sentence, the princess and I held hands and went to the door.
Along with the attendant who was waiting, the princess and I got guided towards the part of the mansion that had a small spring from which clean water came out.The princess changed from her dress into a white,light silk dress with the attendant’s assistance. My attire is similar to hers, it has a pleasant texture but it is fluttering and light, I don’t feel secure in this. The fact that it is slightly see-through makes me further embarrassed. The princess made all the attendants go out and she stepped deeper and deeper into the spring firmly like she is used to it. Ripples spread across the still surface of the water. I watched her in amazement, the princess looked back and laughed.
｢Hey Filmnina, come quick.｣ Getting invited by the princess, I finally set my foot in the spring. I thought the spring water would be pretty cold considering the season but it was unexpectedly warm. I suppose it isn’t only the water spirits but the fire spirits that are blessing this spring too. My body that deflects the influence of the spirit was taken in by the spring gently, without any trouble thanks to the princess’ divine aura. I was led to go deep into the spring till the shoulder and used the silver dipper to pour water on the princess’ head little by little. I thought that this was all I could do for her and it made me feel miserable. Even though I know that helping the princess with ablution is a great honor, this isn’t enough. At least for me and the youth Heinrich. I mean, for him it isn’t just enough and on top of that my existence is like a thorn in his path. The more I think about it, I grow further frustration and misery. The dipper that’s supposed to be light felt heavy, I forced my sigh that was trying to come out back inside and at that moment, ｢Filmina.｣
｢Yes!?｣
With a loud plash, she splashed water on my head. I got all wet and was caught off guard, thus surprised. The princess seemed to have enjoyed my reaction and laughed mischievously. I couldn’t let my eyes off that cute smile.
｢Ablution has been a part of my routine since I was young but I really wanted to play with water like this with a friend even if it is just for once.｣
｢Oh my, princess…..｣
Princess’ laughter influenced me and I began laughing too. I felt bad because she was doing this to cheer me up but at the same time I felt respect for the princess who was this considerate even in times like this. She really is a wonderful person. She noticed that I had finally calmed down. She layed on the surface of the water and closed her amber eyes. Her long, silver hair danced with the waves while they shone.
The water made the cloth stick to her limbs and exposed her wonderful body line. I took my breath in witnessing the art that I’d hesitate to touch. Even though we were of the same gender, I felt nervous around her, she was simply beautiful.
｢Hey Filmina, how does that child the medium look like to you?｣
She called me suddenly and my body jerked reminiscently. Her tone had no warmth. But it was for the first time that she was asking about the medium and I realized I couldn’t be vague or careless with my answer.
The young boy that smiled innocently whenever I call him Snow-sama, it seems like he has a pure white heart just like the name I gave him.
｢…..He is still young but he is someone with a kind heart. ｣
I don’t know much about the medium, he looks really young when he is learning manners and etiquettes but he values the spirits that he refers to as his friend and I think that’s what shows the kindness within him.
She gave a short reply,｢I see｣ to my reply and blinked slowly. A droplet fell off her long eyelashes.
｢It would be a great help if he grows up to be useful rather than just kind.｣
It was like she was talking about something that doesn’t concern her, similar to the time the medium told us about the marriage but her tone was more indifferent than that. She isn’t looking at the medium as a husband but as a king consort. It’s probably a normal thing for the princess, but it really made me feel lonely.
｢Princess, are you｣
｢What is it?｣
｢Are you planning to not fall in love again?｣
I got flashbacks from when I had just met the princess.
