At last, the day of the ceremony was here. Princess has been busy with the preparations since morning and I’ve been unable to see her even once because of that. The youth Heinrich, Edi, and I were given the glorious position as the ceremony’s observer, we were there staring at each other waiting for the princess while she was in another room getting dressed. That’s all good, but… 「Edi, stop making such a face.」 I said it with a sigh.

「This is my usual face, there’s nothing peculiar about it.」

The man’s reply was rather in a low tone.

No matter how dense a person is, they would immediately notice that he wasn’t in a good mood after hearing his tone.

Which part of it is the usual? He doesn’t show his emotions often and his face is usually without an expression, but it’s different this time. Those lips that are bent like a backward U and the eyes look sharper than they normally are, they’re clearly pointing towards his mental state. It’s very… yes very easy to understand how he’s feeling.

「Edi」

I called out the name of the man, who looked extremely tired inside out, but he kept looking away without any response.

Is he a child? I was about to let out a deep sigh but somehow, I managed to stop it from coming out and I looked at his profile. He looked stunningly beautiful today, with a beautifully fair face. In a time like this, I’m made to realize that no matter what facial expression, beautiful things do look beautiful. That realization doesn’t make me happy at all.

It’s not like I’m unaware of why Edi is feeling so upset. It’s that I know the reason that’s why it makes me more uncomfortable and uneasy as the time passes. It truly is regrettable.

「If you think that I look so unsightly then do say so.」

I told it to the man who had frowned when he looked at my attire. At last, he looked at me with his sunrise-tinted eyes.

「I never said that you looked unsightly. It suits you, it suits you to the extent it makes me mad.」

「……」

I became quiet after listening to him say those words in a grumpy voice showing his displeasure. I was supposedly being praised for my attire but it didn’t really feel like that at all. I was so baffled by his attitude, that it didn’t give me any room to start any conversation. He was being extremely childish. I suppressed my sign again and looked down at my dress. Not like I was praising myself or anything but I don’t think I look that weird.  This man did say that it suited me, although it came with the comment 『to the extent it makes me mad』this attire looks awfully similar to what I wore during the banquet at night when we first came here. It was a dress made with colourful silk fabrics and with pretty golden accessories attached here and there. The skin isn’t exposed as it was in the banquet, the sleeves are long and the back and the belly is covered with cloth too but albeit all that, he was still dissatisfied, probably because of how thin this fabric was. The fabric’s thickness around the torso was the same as the normal dress, but it was really thin at the sleeves and the skin could faintly be seen through it. The amount of experience and technique required to make such a thin fabric is far above the average, this dress is properly hiding the parts that needed to be hidden along with my scar, so there shouldn’t be a problem. It was probably the servant lady who thoughtfully helped me choose out to dress for the banquet. The upper dress was tight and it showed my body line and the lower dress was a pant style, open all the way down and only tight around my ankles. The veil that I was wearing fluttered like waves whenever I moved and the metal accessories on it made a pleasant sound.

If we were to refer to those clothes that I wore at the banquet as a fine dress then this attire, which shows way less can probably be referred to as formal wear. It was presented to me as something an observer for the ceremony should wear and it isn’t like I didn’t feel any resistance towards this dress but the gap between this and that dress in the banquet is pretty big. And if I was able to wear that then there shouldn’t be any problem wearing this. I wore this thinking that Edi would agree to it too but it seems like my husband is more narrow-minded than I thought. It can be said that my assumptions were really naive.

「It isn’t just me but you have also changed attire.」 It’s unacceptable that I’m the only one being persecuted. I looked at the dissatisfied man from head to toe and sighed for the third time. The sigh didn’t come out because I was appalled, I had sighed out of administration.

His attire was also arranged by the city to be suitable for the ceremony, although his black robe which showed his position as the head magician of the royal court was the same as usual, but inside the robe was the traditional dress for men of this city. Simple upper with many metal accessories and pants were loose unlike the tight ones popular in the royal capital, and the waist, along with the decorative waist strap with many jewels on the sheath was a greatly curved knife. The men’s attire doesn’t look as gorgeous as the women’s, but when it suddenly does he wears it and that makes me envious.

On a side note, he isn’t wearing anything on his head. Usually, men here wear a turban, but he said that he wasn’t given anything. According to the man, it’s because the medium, the person of utmost importance, is here. It’s something we heard during the banquet welcoming us too, as long as the medium is here even though the man is pure black, there is nothing to fear. Everyone in the city knows that the medium greatly admires and is friendly with the man. So, to show that even the pure black kneels before the medium, his black, shiny hair was let out in the open for the public to see.

His hair and the robe were the same but his new attire made him look different than usual. I felt insulted on how much that made my heart breakfast.

「I feel happy that I could be wearing matching outfits with Edi…..」

I murmured quietly letting out the fourth sigh. It seemed like the servants put some thought into choosing our attire, since when you look carefully you’d notice that the accessories, the embroidery and the jewels on our clothes are the same. If I wore matching clothes with him in the royal capital, I’d be compared with him again and again and at the end, I’d be a laughing stock. The vast difference between our looks is cruel. The man looked at me with widened eyes filled with surprise as if to say that he hadn’t noticed it. He always makes me blush with ease but this man is sometimes extremely dense. I do realize that I had said something unsuitable for my age so I gave him an embarrassed smile and the man suddenly looked away. I could see that his ears were red and I couldn’t help but laugh silently. My laugh resonated with the laughter of the youth Heinrich who was quietly observing us.

「The attire suits you both well」

I thanked him by bowing down a little while sitting for his support. He was also wearing a traditional dress similar to Edi’s. The only difference was that he was wearing a jacket with embroidery and jewels sewn onto it instead of the robe and that he had a turban on his head.

His heart was away after we had talked about the princess but it seems like he was back to being his usual self today since it is an important day. I must say that it is impressive but I still don’t know why he was feeling down for the past couple of days. As I tilted my head wondering what it could’ve been, the man stood up quietly. Ignoring my surprise, he came in between me and Heinrich, hiding me from his gaze. 「Oh my」 I could hear Heinrich saying it along with a bitter laugh from behind the man. He can do something embarrassing like this without any embarrassment but why is it that he fails to notice important things? This man is hopeless, I muttered to myself in my heart and while I was doing so, I heard a knock on the door which echoed in the room.
