As my thoughts reached that point, the Head Knight turned towards our direction. In response to the sudden gaze, my body jolted in fear. Seemingly having seen that, the Head Knight laughed and waved his hand.
「Hey, Filmina. And also Noct, right? You guys can come in!」
……We were blatantly pointed out. There was no way to escape this. My face met with Noct’s. I then took one deep breath and finally opened the door.
「Hey. Sorry for troubling you.」

The Head Knight said, without seeming offended at all. Noct placed the tray that he was holding in front of the Head Knight. The Head Knight then quickly poured lemon water into the glass and vigorously finished drinking it. He drank like he enjoyed it a lot. But I couldn’t stand around just watching him drink right now.
「Sir Alheim, since when did you notice?」
「It was when I first asked Agedilus「What happened」.」
In other words, he knew from the beginning. The Head Knight gave a cheerful smile as the two of us remained at a loss for words.
「I mean I’m not just the Royal Head Knight for show you know. This guy probably would’ve noticed if he weren’t so drunk……but as you can see he’s in this state right now.」

I stretched my hand out and caressed that shiny hair of his. Very few people knew how comfortable it was to touch this hair. His hair would just fall through your fingertips without tangling in them. Far from knowing, anyone and everyone would avert their eyes, as if they saw something terrifying. This man had been pretending that he didn’t care that he was someone who had hair like that. But how could I have forgotten that, in the end, he was just pretending.
「But the one who is even more hopeless is me.」
The person who made this man so tense was none other than me. I was so busy floating in happiness, I hadn’t given a single thought to that man’s feelings. I didn’t notice anything. I didn’t try to notice anything. I couldn’t help but be filled with regret. Even though this man was suffering so much from his troubles. 「Well, I’m not in the place to criticize you, but don’t just blame yourself. That guy is good at hiding it. He probably didn’t want you, Filmina, to find out more than anyone else. But it’d be good to keep quiet about tonight. 」
「Yes. Thank you Sir Alheim. 」
「I didn’t do anything at all. Well then, I should probably get going. 」
「Ah, if that is so, I’ll send you…….」
「It’s alright, don’t sweat it. Rather than that, stay by Agedilus’s side」
The Head Knight laughed as he waved his hand. It seemed that he had already sobered up. He stood up from the sofa, stretched, and walked towards the door with steady steps.
Oh yes, it was already past midnight. The Head KNight had work tomorrow. Yet he went through the trouble to go out drinking with this man. He must have noticed the changes in this man ー or more accurately, his worries. That man commented that the Head Knight was a「man who was always fooling around」, but I yet again saw that he definitely was not just that. It was obvious. There was no way that someone who only fooled around could rise to the top of the Royal Knights. This man was blessed thoroughly with good friends. And that went for me as well.
As I expressed my gratitude, filled with a variety of meanings, I bowed my head down deeply. 「It’s really nothing」The Head Knight smiled again indifferently. His dark brown eyes then shifted to Noct, who was watching us without saying a word.
「Noct, right? Help me take care of Filmina and Agedilus.」
Noct’s eyebrows twitched. He looked up at the Head Knight, seemingly wary. But the wariness was not the only emotion that was in his eyes. It was also occupied by a kind of confusion, not understanding why the Head Knight would say something like that.
「Why are you saying that to me?」
As expected, his voice too, was filled with confusion. In response, the Head Knight continued, as if he was being made to state the obvious.
「Of course it’s because you’re living together with these guys. If you’re living together, it means you’re like a family.」
「……Do we become a family if we live together?」
「You really speak like Agedilus. Of course living together isn’t everything, But is there a fixed answer for what a family should be like? My parent’s home is crazy, you know? Whenever I return home from my quarters, those brats around my neighborhood will just come over and gather as they like. Everyone’s like family to me.」
My room is being treated as a secret base for the kids now. The Head Knight laughed, as he lightly patted Noct’s head, as Noct had fallen completely silently.
「Well, that’s how it is. You can do it when you feel like it. You can just do it in a way that you can, but make sure to support these guys. Especially since Agedilus seems to have taken a liking to you, which is pretty rare.」
Seemingly having finished saying what he wanted to, the Head Knight left the reception room. I saw his back figure off. After a short moment, I called out to Noct, who hung his head down, as if he were thinking about something intently.
「Noct. Sorry for the trouble, but could you please help me get the lap robe [2. TL Note: A “lap robe” is a blanket for the lap] from the room? Edi might catch a cold if we leave him like this.」
「Got it. ……Hey, Filmina」
「What is it?」
Noct, who immediately nodded his head without a single complaint and turned around, suddenly stared hard at me. Those yellow eyes of his were flickering with anxiety.
「Would you be happy if I supported you guys?」
It seemed that he had been deep in thought about what the Head Knight had said just now. I couldn’t help but laugh at the question, which has a painfully obvious answer. In response to Noct, who furrowed his eyebrows as if he were annoyed, I answered without hesitation.
「Yes, of course. I’d be really happy. I would think that Edi too, would feel reassured with your support. 」
「……Is that so?」
「Of course. But of course I don’t mean for us to become your burden. It’d be already even if you didn’t support us. I’m already really happy just by having you with me.」
「…………Is that, so.」
After repeating the same words, Noct nodded slightly and left the reception room. Now, we can finally be alone.

Calling him again with a stronger tone, that man’s long, thick eyelashes that were facing downwards started to tremble. And almost frustratingly slowly, those beautiful sunrise colored eyes, a mix of orange and purple colors, started to appear. Those eyes were no longer damp from alcohol.
「How are you feeling?」
「Terrible」
I couldn’t help but laugh at his deeply-toned, immediate answer. I had assumed that he had regained consciousness while I was talking to the Head Knight, but from this, it seems that he might have been pretending to sleep from the beginning. He probably was feeling really embarrassed, with me hearing his complaints. His face was red, probably not only because of the wine. As I reached my hand out to caress those cheeks, that man actually closed his eyes again, seeming embarrassed.
「You must be disenchanted.」
「Oh dear, in what?」
「In me, of course. Even after I talked about love so much, I thought that I might not truly love. I’m a fool. 」
That man seemed like a child as he spouted those words out. He looked exactly like a child who didn’t know whether to be angry or sad that the secret that they wanted to hide so desperately got found out by their parents.
