It was only in this Schtorenvihein region that the Hero didn’t need to wield the sword most of the time. Being the「Hero」who slayed the Demon Lord, there was a possibility that he would be asked to go back to the Royal Capital in the future. For someone like him to be unable to hold a sword was not something to laugh about.

It was unthinkable that he, who had fought a large number of demons, would lose out to some random knight taken from the streets. But in the unlikely event that it was true, the Hero was not in a position where he could pretend that everything was alright. Although I felt bad having to say that to him. Maybe the reason that he made the Hero practice his swordsmanship was also to make the Hero remember that sense of dangerーbut, of course, that was nothing but a guess of mine. Even if I said that, from an outsider’s point of view, one wouldn’t be able to see it as anything besides bullying. Moreover, there was no way that this man that he「did it for the sake of the Hero」out loud, so there was no doubt that he didn’t want the people around to think so either.

He really was a clumsy and hopeless man. And yet, the Hero declared this man to be his close friend and looked up to him regardless of what anyone else thought. Both that man and I had to bow our heads to him.

「……Oi, what’s so strange about it?」

「I was just thinking that SIr Yuri really is a lovely person.」

「…………」

The wrinkles between his eyebrows deepened. I looked back into those sunrise-colored eyes of his that looked straight at me and smiled cheerfully at him.

「For both Edi and I to be blessed with an amazing friend like Sir Yuri, we really are lucky.」

「……Friend?」

「Yes, he really is a precious friend. We really need to express our gratitude to that person again in the future.」

That man didn’t answer. However, an uneasy light glowed in his eyes. Him averting his eyes from me was probably the most obvious answer there was. This man probably saw the Hero in a positive light. Yet, he just couldn’t express that honestly. He really was a troublesome……no, when it reached this extent, he really was a pitiful person. Although, when we first came to this land, he did properly say a word of thanks to the Hero, so maybe I should take that as a huge improvement from the past.

But he still had a long way to go, I thought, as I wet my lips with another sip of the herbal tea we brought in from the Royal Capital. I let out a giggle.

「Hey, Edi, I know that I shouldn’t be saying stuff like this but」

「What?」

「I’ve come to think that it was good that we can to this land……to the Schtorenvihein region.

That was by no means something I should announce publicly. If other people found out that I said something like that, I’d definitely get scolded by people from all around. The would probably reproach me for my nerve to say something like that.  But, even so, I couldn’t help but think so.

We were able to meet the Hero again. And we were accepted by all these warm-hearted people. And most importantly, this man was able to glorify these peaceful days that we spent relaxing here. All of those things made me really happy, and all felt so precious to me.

My heart still ached whenever I thought about the people we left behind in the Royal Capital, and I was fully aware that we were causing a lot of trouble for the Hero.  But the kindness that I felt on this land was something that I didn’t have in the Royal Capital. I did think that I wanted to return to the Royal Capital someday, but just a little more. I couldn’t help but think that. How shameless. I probably wouldn’t be able to argue back even if someone scolded me like that.

That man was probably shocked. I probably wouldn’t be able to say anything back even if he scolded me, asking me if I understood how many people I’d caused trouble for with my thoughtlessness. With that in mind, I looked towards that man. I gasped. Because the expression that that man was making was just that unexpected.

「Yeah. I think so too.」

There was no anger or shock in those words that agreed with me. It was completely gentle.

「What’s with that surprised expression?」

His voice sounded as if I was the one who was acting unexpectedly by instinctively stiffening up in response to his words. 「But」I said in response before I could notice it. But, but isn’t it true? 「I-I just never thought that you would say something like that. I caused you and Uncle Lancent all this trouble you know? And I was so sure that you’d be annoyed that you didn’t get to do your favourite job. 」

「What happened to your image of me?」

Of course, it would be a workaholic who loves his stepfather. But of course I couldn’t say it out loud. Nevertheless, it seemed that that man knew what I was thinking. I tried to play it off with a vague smile, but that man just glared intently at me before finally letting out a small smile on that beautiful face of his. That smile of his was a calm one. But that in turn perplexed me even more.

「Ever since I got a job at the Black Lotus Court, I had been working non-stop. Even I would want to finally get a long break and enjoy myself.」

「Is, that so?」

「Yeah. Moreover」

「Moreover?」

When I urged him to continue, that man gave a teasing smile and laughed happily from the bottom of his heart.

「If we’re here, we don’t have to care about anyone else, and I get you all to myself.」

Hearing him deliver that line without a trace of embarrassment, I just stood there with my mouth agape like an idiot. I knew that my face was turning red even without anyone pointing it out. What on earth was he saying?

「Ah, but after the baby is born, you won’t get to say stuff like that anymore you know?」

「I know. That’s why I’m saying it now. 」

That man asserted, as if to ask me if I had anything to say about that. Hearing that, I finally let out a laugh. This wasn’t a good time for me to be laughing. But I couldn’t do anything but laugh. There wasn’t a better time to laugh than now.

「…….If that is the case, then it’s the same for me. To be able to be alone with you like this the best blessing there is.」

I knew that this was imprudent of me, but that was what I thought. To be able to have this man all to myself, was something that was impossible if we were in the Royal Capital. This was a man who always had to go to places that I couldn’t reach for work or for research. To be able to trap a man like within my arms was a luxury better than I could ever ask for. Even though it felt like I would get punished for this, I think I wouldn’t mind.  Was I the one who was sinning deeply, or was it the man who made me like this? Yes. Surely, it must be the both of us. With that in mind, I gave an embarrassed grin. That man then put his tea cup down on the table and placed his hand on my cheek, moving his body towards me. Without fighting back, I closed my eyes. Soon after, that man’s lips naturally fell on mineー……

「Agedilus, Filmina, preparations for dinner are……」

I opened my closed eyes and looked in the direction of the voice. That man was looking in that direction too. My eyes were directly met with those bright green eyes, sparkling like emeralds.

「……」

「……」

「……」

「……I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have interrupted!」

The hero had frozen up with his hand still placed on the opened door. His face turned bright red as he shut the door vigorously with a bang. And wIth that, the sound of his footsteps slowly trailed off.

Watching him walk away, that man clicked his tongue loudly. Tch!! Dear dear, I smiled wryly.

「I guess it really is hard for us to get each other to ourselves, isn’t it? 」

After I said that, that man let out a disgruntled sigh. After a moment of pause, we both looked at each other’s face and laughed. I placed my own hand on the hand that he placed on my cheek. With that as a signal, we exchanged a gentle kiss this time.
