I mean, it was only natural. Based on the way he talked, it seemed that what was happening now was based on the Priest’s own discretion. The Princess, Sir Klanven and Sir Heathrow all believed in that man. We had no choice but to repay their trust in us, and I myself wanted to repay it.
However, it was only natural that my resolve and relief was not long-lived.
「The one who betrayed our goddess and sided with a demon, Agedilus Von Lancent, his wife, Filmina Von Lancent, as well as that child in her belly. I hereby declare that we imprison them in the name of the goddess! 」
The Priest announced. Responding to that, those around us started moving. What do they mean “in the name of the goddess”? I couldn’t help but click my tongue as the Princess’s prediction came true.
「Edi! Sir Yuri!」
The Temple Knights trapped that man and the Hero separately with the swords in their hands. Even though I instinctively called out their names, there was no answer to my cries. While I was distracted looking at them, another Temple Knight reached his hand out from behind me and restrained me as well. WIth my hands tied behind my back, I couldn’t move at all. Just like that, I was separated from the two of them and brought in front of the Priest.
The priest looked at me with mockery in his eyes as he grabbed me by my chin. I tried to look away, but he was stronger. He forced my eyes to meet with his. If he was going to do that, then I was going to glare at him with everything I had. But as I did that, he slapped my cheeks with all the strength he had. Under the blue moon, a dry voice reverberated unusually loudly.
「Filmina!」
The Hero screamed out. Hearing that, the Priest gripped me even tighter. Ignoring the Hero’s cries, the Priest snorted with a hmph.
「You are a defective woman, one without protection from the spirits. You are inferior to even a beast for harbouring the Demon Lord.」
「……Oh my, thank you for your kind praises.」
I could feel the heat flush to my cheeks as they throbbed painfully. They were definitely going to swell up uglily tomorrow. But the pain on my cheeks was nothing compared to the pain I felt in my chest.
I didn’t care that he called me defective or a beast. More than that, I couldn’t forgive him for insulting the baby in my belly. No matter what anyone said, this child was our precious child. There was no way that our child could be the Demon Lord. No, even if our child really were the Demon Lord, the fact that I cared very much for this child would not change in the slightest.
With those thoughts in mind, I glared at the Priest with a smile. That was when I noticed something was off, albeit a bit late. It was kind of cold. You could say that it was only natural, since it was a winter night. But this was not that simple kind of cold. This was a cold that seeped into your bones. I felt the chill in my skin. It was the kind that would cause even your breath to freeze. You could hear the sound of something slowly turning to ice.
「E-eek!?」
The Priest who stood right in front of me suddenly tried to get away from me in a panic. However, he wasn’t able to. It was only natural. His legs were frozen and bound to the ground.
No matter what was said or done to me, I had maintained a gentle smile on my face up till then. But I could feel my face twitch conspicuously. And it wasn’t strange that I did. That was because, although that man was trapped just like the Hero and I, a spark of bone-chilling coldness appeared in those sunrise-colored eyes of his. There was no way I could stand there without my face twitching.
Wait a second Edi, calm down. Before I could call out to him, that man’s mouth moved.
「Don’t you dare touch Filmina.」
ーーClank. Clank. Clank.
It sounded out of place yet beautiful. Yet it was a rigid sound that seemed to reject everything and anything. THe sound pounded against my ears. What was this sound? I thought as I looked towards the source of the sound……in other words, that man’s hand.
I could see the silvery-white bangles known as the Magic Seals that were around that man’s wrists getting crushed one by one, making a sound each time. At the same time, that man’s hands were getting cut by an invisible blade. Bright red drops fell to the ground.
「Edi, you can’t!」
「Agedilus!」
The Hero and I cried out. But ignoring our cries, a wand appeared in that man’s hand. That man emitted a purple light and with a loud bang, the temple knights who restrained that man were blown away.
「H-he broke the Magic Seals!?」
The Priest shouted in shock. As if taking that as a signal, the large magic stone that was fixed at the tip of that man’s wand glowed. Whoosh1 The wind howled loudly. The air that had been frozen with that man’s magic turned into fine shards of ice that sparkled brightly. The temple knights who trapped the Hero and I were blown away. It was a gentle wind that didn’t feel like anything other than a light breeze, but it seemed that to the rest of them, it felt like a storm that might stand to kill them.
Their screams overlapped with each other. Having been released, I had suddenly lost support and sank to the ground right then and there. That man came to me, with his pitch black hair dancing in the wind. He gently kneeled down and took my hand.
「Are you alright, Filmina?」
「I-I’m fine. Rather than that, Edi, your, hands……!」
「Ah, I’m sorry. It’ll get you dirty.」
「What are you talking about?!」
Instinctively, I raised my voice, but that man just shrugged his shoulders. It seemed that he was trying to play it off by acting completely relaxed, but I wasn’t about to let it slide.
All the bangles around this man’s wrist had been broken. But in return, his hands had been torn into shreds. This was probably the price he had to pay for recklessly taking advantage of his magic to break the Magic Seals.
「Quick, we need to treat……」
「It’s not a serious wound or anything. More than that, your face is more important. 」
Ignoring me as I fell into a panic, that man spoke calmly. At the same time, the magic stone on the wand in his hand glowed faintly. As soon as the gentle purple light surrounded those decimated hands of his, all his wounds healed in the blink of an eye. I took up his hand and checked for any wounds left. I let out a relieved sigh.
「Please don’t act so recklessly.」
It wouldn’t be enough no matter how many hearts I had. With those thoughts in mind, I glared at that man. That man raised a single eyebrow and responded with:「I don’t want to hear that from you」, sounding evidently annoyed. Eek, I couldn’t deny that. As I stayed there with my tongue tied, that man let out a small laugh. He then placed his hand on my cheek where I had just been hit. That touch from his hand, filled with kindness, was very gentle, and just ever so slightly cold. I blinked in surprise at the unexpected temperature of his hand, which was usually warm. 「I can’t help it, right?」That man let out a small sigh in a tone completely different from what he used when talking to the Priest.
「It wouldn’t mean anything for you even if I summoned the water spirits. I want to slowly heal you, but just bear with this for now.」
It seemed that he had adjusted the temperature of his hand with magic and was trying to cool down my cheeks. I was so impressed that he would do something as smooth as this. But as that man looked down at me, his gaze turned elsewhere.
「You, traitor!!」
The abuse the Priest hurled at us reverberated in my ears. Turning around, I saw the Priest glare at us with rage burning in his eyes as he was supported by the low-ranked priests and temple knights.
「No matter! Everyone, catch them! He has caused harm to us, believers of the goddess. Now the princess and the others can’t say anything! Oi, what are you all doing!」
The Priest was yelling out loud, but having been completely overpowered by that man’s strength, the temple knights seemed to have gotten cold feet, and were not able to budge one bit. There were a few people who somehow managed to pull out their swords and were facing our direction, but they didn’t dare to come towards us.
All was lost. Those words appeared at the back of my head. The temple knights weren’t moving, And we couldn’t make a move either.
