Volume 5 Chapter 23
Volume 5 Chapter 23: Farewell from the Spirits
「That’s a relief. Still, are you really okay with this? We might need you to do quite a bit, you know?」
As I thought back on the plan we had just discussed, I turned back to her and asked once again. However, Lorie responded with a calm look.
「You mean, creating and maintaining the Spirit Road as a safety net once the other head is found? That’s no problem at all.」
Exactly. During the meeting, we decided that it would be wise to have more paths than just Ouroboros’ body, just in case.
If we can seek assistance from the Spirit City of Inborg, then just have them create a path near the dragon’s body.
They accepted that proposal without hesitation, but…
「Creating paths like this consumes a lot of magic power. It might be asking too much, so please don’t push yourself too hard.」
As I said that, Lorie narrowed her eyes in amusement.
「You’re the one planning something reckless! Running across the body of an ancient dragon… Are you really capable of that?」
「I’ve done it before, I’ll just do it again.」
That’s the only way to ensure we take down the main head of Ouroboros.
「…Understood. Then I’ll use all my strength to maintain the Spirit Road, even if it means forcing it. It should make it easier to defeat Ouroboros.」
「Thanks. I appreciate it.」
「And, I’d like to respond to your recklessness, so we have one more thing to offer.」
Lorie said, raising her index finger.
Even though she had already agreed to so much, I listened.
「You’ll help even more?」
「Yes. Once you find the head of Ouroboros in the interdimension, ring the bell five times. I’ll create an exit to this world at the most nearest location from there. Throw it right there.」
「…Throw it right there? If I do that, the head of Ouroboros will come fully into the Spirit Realm.」
Then, of course, the battle would take place in the Spirit Realm.
Even if I try to fight as carefully as possible to limit damage to the surroundings, collateral damage will still be unavoidable.
Plus, it would be one thing if there was some open area to fight, but it’s just a city and a small forest around here. Wouldn’t the damage be too great?
That was my concern, but Lorie responded confidently.
「It’s fine. Ouroboros has been consuming the magic from the spring, there must be an exit that it’s using to come and go. So this makes no difference. Moreover, this land was made as a battlefield.」
「A battlefield?」
「Yes. As the administrator of the Spirit City, I have a pretty interesting ancient scroll passed down through generations. The spell inscribed there is called “Battlefield Construction”.」
Lorie pulled out a scroll from the slit in the armrest of her throne.
「With this, I can create a battlefield anywhere in this city, the principle is the same as with creating a Spirit Road. No matter where enemies appear in the Spirit Realm I can change that location to a battlefield where one can fight without reservations.」
「…Creating a battlefield near the city? That’s quite a bold magic.」
「Yes. But creating a battlefield protects the city, this way I can ensure no harm will come to the surroundings. With a proper arena, the chances of victory should be drastically higher over fighting in the unstable world in between. Let me do this.. I want to protect the city and the Spirit Road, and I refuse to just stand by and await your victory.」
Lorie declared with a fiery determination.
Her eyes burned with immense passion. Does she have something against ouroboroses?
Well, from my perspective, fighting in a controlled environment, rather than being swept away by strong current, would definitely be faster and more efficient.
「Thanks. I’ll take you up on that battlefield.」
So I agreed with the proposal.
Hearing my answer, Lorie nodded, smiling.
「Thank you. Watching someone solve our problems while doing nothing is too much to bear.」
She really is full of energy and determination, quite the noble princess, through I, as I replied.
「I’ll be back again tomorrow.」
「Yes. I’ll be waiting, praying that the plan works well.」
