Volume 5 Chapter 25
Volume 5 Chapter 25: Dashing Hero
The moment the Spirit Road opened, the emergence of the Ouroboros followed almost simultaneously.
「Oooh…!!」
With an earthshaking roar the Ouroboros snatched a nearby container, greedily devouring it.
The staff members stationed near the containers trembled in fear.
「I-it’s huge…」
「Don’t be afraid! Stop it!」
Still, despite their fear, the staff pushed forward.
「Electric Scissors!」
「Air Lock!!」
Using their wands and catalysts, they cast spells aimed at subduing it—some aimed with lightning scissors, others with atmospheric locks trying to ensnare its neck. Yet,
—Clang!
The magic that bound around its neck was immediately shattered with a single shake of its head.
「I-it deflected it?」
「Those were high-level spells of lightning and air magic…!!」
The spellcasters faltered, briefly retreating. In that moment, the Ouroboros’s eight eyes glowed.
A bright light burst forth, long and thin, moving towards them in a whip-like motion.
「Tch… a whip made of light magic!」
「Defend yourselves!!」
Those skilled in magic discerned the nature of the attack.
The coming attack was a manifestation of light magic. So,
「Wood Pillar Shield!」
One of the staff, grasping their wand, stomped forcefully on the ground. Instantly, multiple giant trees shot up from the earth, shielding them.
The trees were supposed to intercept the attack, blocking it with their sturdy trunks.
That was the plan. But then,
—Thud!
A dull sound echoed as the whip cut through the trees.
「Gggh… oohhh!!」
The light whip cleaved through the trees effortlessly.
The force of the attack blew away the nearby vegetation and the ground itself.
And, of course, the staff were caught in it.
「K…guh… Are you… okay?」
The staff, thrown backward, groaned in pain, glancing at each other.
「Ah… Thanks to the shield, the impact wasn’t too severe…」
「Still, damn… This is bad! We can’t hold it much longer!」
Before them loomed the Ouroboros, still unharmed.
In just a few seconds of battle, they were brought to this state. But even so,
「We’re still… able to fight!」
「Yes. Our motto is perseverance even in the face of uncertain experiment outcomes. Don’t underestimate our endurance…!」
As long as they could, even for just a fleeting second, they would attempt to stop this dragon. It was their duty.
As they rose again,
「Well done to hold on for a few seconds.」
From behind, came a voice accompanied by a gust of wind supporting their backs.
「The rest is our job.」
And the staff saw them.
The backs of the heroes who had arrived.
